The University of Mississippi Medical Center issued the following statement.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center is establishing the resources and expertise for the state’s only academic medical center to fill the health care void caused by the closure of the state’s only burn center.
“We are enhancing our burn care capabilities to respond to this lack of service in the state,” said Dr. Alan Jones, associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs. “We constantly evaluate ways we can meet the medical needs of Mississippians and other patients in the region who require the complex care that we can provide. It’s essential that burn patients in the area receive care in a timely manner, so we are stepping in to fill this need.”
With coordination by Mississippi MED-COM, which is housed at UMMC in the Mississippi Center for Emergency Services, burn patients who require a higher level of care will either be accepted and cared for at UMMC or transferred to the most appropriate regional burn center for treatment.

Just in time for all the white-hot, random and spontaneous lithium battery fires from Electric Vehicles!
@10:02 - whatever you say wacko
.....will offer burn care (But not to those with Blue Cross........)
I think Oxford is engineering the failing of all the healthcare agencies/hospitals around the state in order to take them over. Is it a coincidence that they're submitting proposals for facilities in the Delta, and now the burn center? Prove me wrong.

I think aliens have landed on Earth. Prove me wrong.
11:18, CHS that runs all the Merit facilities isn't going anywhere despite any amount of engineering by Oxford.
@2:12
It would be far easier to prove that aliens have visited, and are on our planet, than to disprove that.

If you knew anything about UMMC you would realize that "Oxford" has no real say in anything that goes on at UMMC except they both have the word "Mississippi" in their name.
I taught and treated patients at UMMC for two decades and all I ever heard about "Oxford" was that the main guy there used to play for the Washington Redskins........
Merit Central is moving lots of things to other Merit hospitals. Burn centers are generally a losing cost center so maybe this is more altruistic as opposed to poaching. Or not!

So you were there 40 years ago? Yeah - nothing has changed.
They won't take your insurance or see any patients though.
UMMC has a talent for acquiring things that lose money.
We need a burn center. Might as well put it at UMMC and let the legislature fund it.
