The owners of two dilapidated hotels are fighting the city of Jackson's efforts to shut down their hotels.
Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeff Reynolds closed the Regency on Greymount Tuesday. The Court said mold is pervasive throughout the hotel. The roof is in a state of disrepair and in danger of collapsing. The plumbing needs major repairs as well. The hotel has tenants even as it deteriorates.
Baka, LLC owns the Regency. Ketan Patel is the managing member of the company although Ping claimed in court she was the owner. Judge Reynolds ruled manager Zhu Juan Ping was in contempt of court and sentenced him to serve thirty days in jail. No one appeared in court for the Regency. The Court gave the hotel 72 hours to close and eject the tenants.
However, Ping got a reprieve as she was never arraigned on the charges. Judge Reynolds set aside the order and arraigned her yesterday. Trial is set for September 29 at 3 PM.
The Oyo hotel on I-55 frontage road by Northside Drive suffered the same fate. The site has been the scene of shootings and is a known drug haven. Judge Reynolds found the owner, Bharat Parchal to be in contempt of court. Judge Clay ordered Parchal to bring the hotel up to code a month ago. The Court said the hotel was missing fire extinguishers, the elevator had not worked for years, six rooms were not secure, and there was excessive debris in rooms. The building did not meet the electrical code and is a major fire hazard.
Judge Reynold sentenced Parchal to serve thirty days in jail for the contempt and ordered the removal of all tenants within 72 hours. The defendant appealed the case to County Court yesterday.

Chowke's dope boys need venues to ply their wares, right?
Most of the Dope Deals go down in the parking lots of Kroger and Walmart in Madison!
An appeal of a Jackson Municipal care? Good luck hearing that one in the next 2 years.
1:07 PM
If that's true (and I don't think anyone reading JJ believes that except ol' Joke's cheerleaders) then they're dumber than I thought.
1:07, proof? Your participation? Photos of others?
Kroger and Walmart corporate legal teams would not appreciate your accusations.
Attn 1:07 I think you are getting the Kroger on I55 north where the young child was kidnapped and murdered confused with the two (incidentally two really fine stores) in the city of Madison.’
It’s safer in Madison, the dealers follow the money and nobody especially the dealer wants to get robbed !
Two mules fighting over a fuckin turnip
Why does anybody, White, black, brown or yellow give a fuck what happens at either of these shitholes? Dope should be legal and so should paying $30 to shack up in a slum
Just visit the outer parking spaces at the Walmart in Madison.
Lots of activity.
Last only a minute or two and then both cars leave.
Excuse me, but aren't some of you showing your ignorance about race? And, in doing so, can no longer deny being a racist.
These slum lords are not African American and would in all likelihood feel as you do... superior to any African American and to most Caucasians.
Indeed, they would not want their children marrying anyone of any race not theirs.
Indeed, they might actually live in Madison or Rankin counties and their children have attended private school.
And, by the way, we have white slum lords who live in Madison.
And quite a few out of State ones...as you will find out when they abandon your new cheaply built faux commercial buildings in the future.
Note: Unintended consequences. Residents forced out, employees fired, and then the homeless/vagrants will move in along with the rats.
9:22- What the hell are you ranting about? Nobody mentioned 'African American' or marriage outside of one's race. Get your meds changed.
10:16 I don't think anyone got "forced out" I think you have a lot of people that could not afford to leave, did, and rented their properties to anyone so they could make some money and now everyone suffers.
