Help the Children!

The city of Richland is holding a school supplies drive for its public schools:

Kingfish note: Naturally, some readers will take shots at Richland since they were sooooo disturbed by Jackson's Stuff the Truck campaign.   Remember these comments from last week?

Wow, always looking for a handout. What about self responsibility?

Don’t have kids if you can’t or refuse to support and raise them.  Another handout request.

I'm a white 54 year old male. BS and MBA Any broke pecker wood can go to their nearest dirt cheap and get all the school crapo they need for little or nothing. I take my own trash off and often shop at dumpsters too. ha Where are the Churches anymore when it comes to supporting the widows and orphans needs. Stuffing a truck with school supplies is about as ridiculous as Entergy MS "mo-bi-lizing" at the fairgrounds before a storm event. All for the cameras.

"Food and Fun for the entire family". That's always code for an invitation to some obese woman to drag five kids to the location to scarf up on some free groceries and pops.  This crap is as senseless as 'angel tree'. And my opinion of angel tree is any woman over the course of ten or eleven months ought to be able to round up enough money for two or three eight dollar Christmas presents....and ought to be able to do it on her own with very little training or knowledge of finance. But, by the hundreds, they wait for some well meaning (and guilt ridden) gainfully employed person to pluck their child's name off the tree and 'gimmee'.

 More "free stuff."
Naturally, you are going to make the same comments about a bunch of white schoolkids in Richland, right?

Not enough money for basic supplies? Start eliminating school district expenditures that are not directly tied to academic instruction and legitimate supporting admin costs. Got 6 coaches at school who each have 1/2 of a full academic teaching load? Try replacing them with fewer personnel who have larger academic loads -- there's some supply money.

You would think between civil forfeiture and meth production that Richland could provide school supplies.

Its not the children's fault they are used as pawns to solicit sympathy and money from people.

There are a lot of kids with dumbass parents that have iphones, tatoos and nice rides, but look to everyone else when its time to support their children.

As long as the kiddos aren't sporting cell phones, I might be a contributor. But, I'm not helping out parents that buy their kids cell phones, but won't buy them school supplies.

Lets just remember that Richland is in Rankin County, land of rednecks, meth and inbreeding. These folks done spent all they money on black-market supplies to cook meth. This is really sad, especially when you consider what low-regard the citizens of Rankin County place on education.

Giving up hard earned money so some parent with a new iPhone and a truck nicer than my old paid for one can not pay an extra $20 for basic school supplies is distasteful no matter what their skin color is. I feel bad for anyone who genuinely needs $20 for school supplies, but so far all I have met is people that make bad financial choices.

I didn't see the skin color of the kids listed... is Richland "whites only" and no one told me? Until I see a kid who can't find a pencil somewhere, I'm not spending my money to buy them one. Until I see kids going hungry and MS NOT leading the nation in childhood obesity, I'm not really thrilled with the idea of paying for free breakfast and lunch. I don't really care what color your kid is, just take care of them yourself. If you find you can't, find a church.

I thought Scott county was the meth capital of Mississippi? I've even heard cops refer to meth as the Scott county slim fast.

Regardless I would hope that communities would come together to support children's education. Why should a child not get needed school supplies because their parents can't manage money? Isn't that the only way to get these kids to make better decisions? To support their education?

Also, I live in Richland. I don't do meth. I don't know anyone that does meth. And I'll be donating items to the Richland students.

Brandon is having a "Helmets and Heels" fundraiser for football. The speaker is Jill Freeze. If you wonder what is wrong with public schools these days, let that sink in for a moment. It's $30 to attend.

@1:51 p.m. So what slice of real estate do you occupy in heaven? I am sure you sitteth at the right hand of God no doubt.

Sounds like some folks are just plain jealous of the entrepreneurial spirit that abounds in Rankin County.

Meth- Scott County Slim Fast - excellent

There is nothing wrong with a "Helmets and Heels" fundraiser. No one is asking for a handout. There are people who worked to put together a way to raise money by getting something for their money, instead of begging for handouts.

Also, those who say Rankin county doesn't care about education, go look at the school ratings.

We may have some lame administrators, but we also have a LOT of great teachers.

What they should worry about is that Madison and Rankin public schools produce more NM finalists, that Brandon is the highest income city in the state, and that reality is that their lily white low competition segregation academy is not competitive. But, dream on, Northeast Jerkson "heroes." And, keep reading that Metro ChRICHistan Living magazine to get more prayers for tax breaks and useful tips to persuade the NCAA investigators. We'll keep getting a STEM education, rolling in sales tax, and paving roads for Tate. While you build higher fences and wonder what happened to your 1950s house and 1850s values.

Why do students receive new apple computers but can't afford pencils?

1:32 PM What is wrong with children having cell phones?

4:27. wow. so much wrong there

national merit- st. andrews, prep? i guess those don’t count even though they are far better than any rankin county public school

also no rankin county public school is in the top 16 in the state for producing national merit finalists. (madison and clinton are the only public ones in our area that had more than 3..)

income level- it’s madison. not brandon

seems like in reality madison and hinds are way above rankin in terms of education

@3:14 pm, you seem offended by my brutally honest observations about Rankin County folk. And so you decide to pretend you are morally and religiously superior to me. But that’s fine, I would expect nothing less from a Rankin Countian.

All that aside....Why after all these years of 'tax free holiday' just before school starts has the legislature never seen fit to include school supplies in the items that can be bought tax free.

How damned stupid is that of the people who are running this state? And any time you ask one of them why not...he or she will say, "Oh....I signed on to that last session (or three years ago) but it just never got out of committee." Bull Shit!

The racism in the comments really has gotten out of control, thanks for saying something kf. It makes it almost impossible to agree with anything the GOP says when the loudest supporters only care about one thing.

@ 5:49

I'll tell you why children don't need cell phones. Because they are CHILDREN! They need guidance, direction, discipline and lots of other things, but they do not "need" a cell phone.

They have phones because the parents are too lazy to keep up with them. So out of convenience for the parents, little Johnny walks around like a stud duck sporting the latest release from Apple. However, what little Johnny doesn't have is an appointment with the dentist, enough school supplies, or a home cooked meal. But he has that damn cell phone, those expensive tennis shoes and a polo shirt.

Yea, he looks like all the other little future consumers and will be just as miserable, broke and unenlightened as his parents, all for the sake of being like everybody else.

The Richland children are much less likely to grow up and turn into criminals than the JPS kids. Much better chance that the Richland kids will actually be productive members of society.

Anonymous said...

Haha cite drug problems and then praise Prep? You do realize most of the drugs on kids in Rankin County flow freely out of Prep, right??

Where the hell does this come from?:

"The racism in the comments really has gotten out of control, thanks for saying something kf. It makes it almost impossible to agree with anything the GOP says when the loudest supporters only care about one thing. July 31, 2018 at 7:34 PM"

I've seen no racist posts on this thread. Furthermore, Kingfish has not posted at all. Get a grip on your chip!

What has happened to parents today? They seem to forget that everyone pays taxes to educate their children. People with no children pay more in taxes than those who have children. Now the parents want other people to provide school supplies for their kids. Isn't it enough that we help pay for their education? In many schools we even provide free meals.
At one time parents raised their own children. Now, for some reason, they have the idea that other people should foot the bill for their children.
Maybe it is kids having kids. One ting we know for sure, either the parents are not grown ups or they are dead beats.

I don't know if Kingfish ever does an "Idiot of the Day," but if he did today, 12:41pm would get it!

He whines about paying upwards of a hundred grand for 14 years of private school at a segregation academy that he has convinced himself is academically exceptional (it isn't). I'm sure Junior ended up at the same University as early as else, either Ole Miss or MSU, taking the same classes as the kids who went to public school.

Did your kids ACT score reflect all this exceptional private school education? Is he going to college for free?

In any other settings that would be considered poor financial planning on your part. You could have sent your kid to McWillie Montessori, followed by the Apac program, which is what JPS white people usually do.

As Fred Sanford used to say, "You big dummy!"

I personally enjoy watching Jackson area white people slowly go broke funneling all their money into private schools. I call it a tax on racism.

Anonymous said...

@12:41pm You didn't HAVE to send your children to private school. It was a choice you made. And wow how wonderful that you had that option. My family could never afford JA tuition. We make a good income and send our children to public school. Congratulations on your financial success. Maybe you'll get your head out of your ass one day.

If you're going to delete posts, then how do you justify letting PittPanther's racist bullshit stand?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
