Fortification Street Shooting (Updated)

JPD issued the following statements and mug shot:

(#2)  Jackson Police have made an arrest in a shooting investigation.  Police have charged 58-year-old, Jackson Smith, with aggravated assault following the shooting of a 43-year-old male on Fortification Street earlier today.  Smith was also charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, after contraband was found by officers during the arrest. The victim is listed in stable condition.  A motive is still unknown.

(#1) Jackson Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 900 block of Fortification Street, just before 10:30am

Officers responded to a call of someone being shot near Fenian’s Pub. When they arrived, they found a black male lying near the sidewalk suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the pelvic area.

Witnesses told police that the victim was walking when a vehicle pulled up and words were exchanged. The driver of the vehicle fired shots, striking the victim before driving off. The suspect was described only as an older white male.

Investigators have developed a possible identity on the suspect and are working to verify that information as well as locate him.  Nearby businesses were also being checked for any surveillance that may assist in the investigation.

The victim, who is age 43, was responsive and was transported to a local hospital. His current condition is unknown.

Initial reports at lunchtime said it took place in front of McDade's for whatever that's worth. Could have been either side of the street. Whatever, but damn!

drug deal gone bad nothing to see here.

A shooting in The Belhaven? Tell me it's not so. We are getting crowded with Jacktown immigrants up here in Madison, so y'all had better mosey on over to Brandon to avoid the gunfire.

Keep your heads down, ya hear?

I saw the police and ambulances flying down Fortification not long after the shooting (which I now know was a shooting). I saw a black male with people around him directly in front of Fenian's (south side of the street), almost between Fenian's and the Pizza Shack.

The shooting was not on the McDade's side, based upon what I saw driving by as a crowd seemed to be forming.

And yes, my wife and I are moving to ZIP code 39110 on August 20th. Enough of this. Which is sad, because Belhaven could be so nice without the crime.

A shooting in Councilperson Vergi's Belhaven!

I was in line at the new Froogle's when I heard about this. I normally go to the one in the Fondren but it was too packed, what with the Mayor's Harvard Commencement Speech at the site of the abandoned High Noon Cafe.

You think a drug deal can’t go bad in Madison? The drugs follow the money. Just like pineapples

Bye, Macy! You won't be missed!

4:34 PM Nope, drug deals are illegal in Madison. We have respect for the law up these ways.

We will soon be "building a wall" on the south side of County Line Road.

LOL

Macy, you will be missed. I hope you change your mind.

I can’t wait till they build that lake in some blood oath real estate deal and the only people who will benefit will be the junkies when the thing flops. We can call it shit lake until they move in. The Junkie Shit lake of Greater Jackson will be fabulous. My heart bleeds for the oysters downstream..
Just like the Eastover residents, the poor Canadian Geese will be confuzzled as to what they should do on the issue of migration. Maybe they’ll shit on a politicians head. One can only hope.

As for the last person out of Jackson, turn off the lights.

Macey, you won't regret it. They fix roads, police respond, they don't have food give-aways, and instead of gunfire at night you hear crickets. Sell before property goes down further.

All of this white on black crime in Jackson has gotten out of hand! It is past time for the black residents to begin moving to the nearby safer cities in Madison and Rankin Counties!!!! Our lives are at stake because of these white criminals like Smith!!!!!!!!

Glad Lumbaba is at Harvard...

6:59, you realize you could do an hour long of drug use at Madison Central right? They are peeling kids off the floor on a daily basis.

Cynical Sam said...

This happened because ol' blood and guts Baby Chocke was at Harvard and thus Jacktown was missing his brilliant leadership.

6:39 AM Your Madison envy is very apparent and is so typical of Jacktown residents. Maybe you could apply for a day-pass so that you could drive through our crime and pothole free vistas.

The idea that Jackson’s burbs are not infested with meth and heroin is hilarious. You’re still in Mississippi.

@1:04 PM "Jackson's burbs" is a wide brush stroke. You will rarely see a meth arrest in Madison. The stat's are there to see. Go to the Sheriff's website for arrest summaries.

There has been only one "controlled substance" arrest this month, and that wasn't necessarily "meth."

The other drug arrests for July were for teens possessing small amounts of pot - for which a citation was issued.

Save your bovine scatology for another forum.

@ July 28, 2018 at 11:09 AM

Envious of what? Neighbors calling cops on you when your grass is over a quarter-inch high? Cops profiling only black people? Neighbors calling cops when you are hosting guest at your home and its only 8pm in the evening? The pedophiles living with their parents or grandparents? The various meth and heroin junkies? Madison and Rankin, the homes are newer - that's it. The racial migration will continue when one too many blacks will move into the neighborhood.

@ Macy Hanson - go ahead, tuck tail and run. You're acting as if the shooting was a random deal between two unfamiliar assailants. It was a personal matter that ended up in gunfire.

Common sense is just not so common anymore. SMH

8:10 is right to be supportive of Madison; however, it's a damned lie to say 'they fix roads' and 'they' certainly do not fix potholes in Madison. But, 'they' do spray-paint a circle around them. And 'they' pay an employee to operate that paint can. Somebody needs to put Mayor Butler on a pothole machine and get her out of everybody's business.

Initial reports at lunchtime were wrong, Bub. Could have been either side of the street but it was not! Whatever, indeed...Thanks for posting.

The Ripple Effect is very real people! If you don’t understand, go drop a rock into water & watch the waves ripple in a circular manner ALL THE WAY AROUND where the rock dropped into the water. Jackson, our capital city is where the rock dropped - the surrounding areas will ALL eventually feel the impact! READ YOUR HISTORY!

The Jacktown whiners continue to bad-mouth the adjacent counties. Either move or quit your whining. You elected these clowns who couldn't manage a lemon-aid stand => own it!

In other words, 9:17, we are going to eventually die. But, how foolish of you to suggest we do nothing to prolong life or put off death if we can reasonably do that.

Keep that BS at Shuckers, not in the great city of Jackson.

YOU and your attitude are the #1 problem, July 27, 2018 at 7:31 PM.

Anonymous said...

So...1:48; Just so I understand your analysis: You are saying that people who respond to a problem are the problem? Gotcha.

Miss Theca - Sadly that would be the "former" great city of Jackson.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
