*Must be a United States Citizen at least 18 years old with no prior felonies to win.*

I find this raffle distributing a weapon despicable and offensive. The Glock is more likely to be used against a family member than anyone else.

So, if you legally win a gun, it may become a danger to society, however, if you legally purchase a gun, it is more safe to have?

That's like saying if you win a house in a raffle (like WLBT promotes) is will create nothing but domestic disturbances !!

9:43 - you are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts - please provide the source and data on which you base your claim.

Sincerely,

Kingfish, could you add the word 'Snowflake' to your bot's list of words to block? I'm REALLY tired of reading that word.

Raffling a Glock. Oh, there will be no dearth of ticket-buyers, but this makes me quite sad. The very idea that a deadly weapon is considered atteactive enough to be a grand prize in a fundraiser...well, we have sunk pretty low. I'm tempted to buy a chance, though. If I won it, I would head straight to the Rez and throw the damned thing as far as I could. One less gun in the hands of people with no business owning one.

12:32, why do you assume it will wind up in the hands of "people with no business owning one." That's an awfully broad and pejorative statement, and who made you the authority on who is suitable to own a firearm?

You do realize that the firearm cannot be transferred to the winner without the winner first completing an ATF Form 4473 and withstanding a NICS query, and even if the winner clears both hurdles the dealer can still refuse the transfer, right?

Or are you just another "expert" who has no idea how these things actually work?

@12:32 owning a gun is not illegal or immoral, littering , on the other hand, is. Don't become an a litter bug like Alice's restaurant. Realize we live in the south and schools and other groups(including cheer teams) raffle guns off to make money. I'm sure if they were raffling off Hillary Clinton's book, or signed memorabilia by Bernie Sanders or that other guy Rachel Maddow, wouldn't make near as much money.

@12:32

You say "One less gun in the hands of people with no business owning one." Who in your eyes has no business owning a gun? If you think the winner of the raffle just walks in and picks up the pistol with no questions asked then you are definitely showing your ignorance. The winner will have to complete the same application process and background check as anyone else that is purchasing a firearm, unless they have a Firearm Permit issued by the State of Mississippi. In that case they have completed the screening process which includes being fingerprinted as well as going thru the renewal process every five years. It's obvious that you have no desire to legally own a firearm and that is your right as a citizen of the USA, but don't attempt to take that same right from me, a law abiding citizen of the USA. I completed the process to obtain a Firearms Permit (about 23 years ago) as well as taking additional training to receive the Instructor Certified Endorsement. If you think obtaining a firearm is as easy as walking into a store or winning a raffle of a legal firearm without no questions asked then I suggest that you try it sometime. Even better, complete the process for obtain a Firearm Permit and see just how thorough the process is. You wouldn't have to purchase a gun, but at least you might better understand the process--or not (most likely outcome.)

Wow, all you gun guys! What a relief to learn how very difficult it is to own a gun, how many screenings and hurdles there are to keep these things out of the "wrong hands!" Now I can sleep better at night. Query, though: how did that nine-year-old get aholt of the one he used to kill his sister? Oh, right, an ignorant parent who left it lying around. But I feel sure that parent was a model of ballistic-owning integrity. How can you people deny there are just too many of these lethal weapons out there? And yes, as the myriad recent news stories show, definitely in the wrong hands.

@1:50 Show of hands, who all drove this morning without having a wreck? Who's guns didn't shoot anyone yesterday or today? Who voted Democrat and still got up and went to work today?

Anonymous said...

Darn... 'dearth' person again.

Anonymous said...

@ 1232 every time someone buys a vehicle they are purchasing a deadly weapon. Look up the stats. Vehicles slaughter thousands of people every year. Bless your heart.

@1:50

You make my point! People obtaining firearms legally are not the ones committing crimes. Yes, there are some that do not take all precautions they should, but show me that the gun owner in the case to which you refer had obtained the gun legally. Oh, by the way, what is the meaning of "aholt?" Another thing, how many irresponsible automobile drivers kill innocents every day of the week? Stupid people do stupid things, but should motor vehicles be banned because there are some idiots on the road.

@2:10

I drove this morning without having a wreck, as I have done from almost 50 years. I can honestly say not one of my weapons, of which I have quite a few, shot anyone yesterday, today or ever. The only time any of them have ever killed anything is when I was hunting game with them, and that was only when I aimed the gun and I pulled the trigger. Not once when I commanded my weapon to fire has it done so. Only when I pull the trigger has it fired. Yes, I do carry a weapon every time I leave the house and it too has never jumped out of the holster and fired itself. I didn't vote Democrat but I also didn't get up and go to work today. But, I did work and pay into Social Security from the day that I graduated from high school, so I think I have earned a few days off. I have a feeling your response to your questions will be the same as or similar to mine. I seriously doubt that those don't understand the Constitution will understand why you asked such questions. I think we are on the same page.

How many is just enough? Since you declare that there are too many, you must be knowledgeable about how many would be just the correct amount.

BTW, I owned my own gun (as much as I owned my own bed or my own toys) when I was 9, a 20ga pump. My daughter owned her own Cricket rifle when she was 7. Both me and my daughter have had access to guns for 90% of our time on earth. I've used issued weapons in combat and have had the unfortunate instance of having to draw a personal weapon under threat (although I chose not to pull the trigger).

Individuals trained in combat and some who have seen combat pick up a weapon and use it illegally. Police Officers, both on and off duty, use weapons illegally.

You must see that the weapon is not the issue. The issue is the human. The reason you have a God-given right to protect yourself from others is because some others are just bad. A feel-good measure of attempting to restrict those who intend harm from a cosmetically described weapon by attempting to limit them from all is folly, at best, and dangerous most assuredly.

Individual responsibility IS a thing.

How did this turn into gun control arguments? I’m pretty sure Kingfish posted this to bring awareness for a sick girl that needs help. If you’re against guns then don’t buy a ticket. Maybe just make a donation. Everything isn’t about politics. Being it’s a LE agency holding this fund raiser I am sure they are attempting to interest those in LE.

I'd be far more inclined to buy a ticket for a Tesla raffle.

I have yet to see anyone snort a magnum, non lubricated. Just sayin.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
