Feathered Cow Flies

The Feathered Cow is closing its I-55N location but will remain open in the Reservoir area.  Owner Nathan Glenn stated on its Facebook page:

The Feathered Cow has the bittersweet announcement that we are closing the doors to our I 55 location next Saturday, September 16th, to focus on expanding our businesses and our brand. We want to sincerely thank everyone for all of your support in the past three years. We will be adding many of the menu items from the Feathered Cow to our other restaurants, Rooster’s and Basil’s in Fondren. And of course, please join us at The Feathered Cow on the Reservoir. Thank you again for your patronage, as we owe any and all of our success to you!
It will be missed.

Hard to run a restaurant in a dying city.

That man can forever more cook

I don't understand. The place always had a good crowd and rent could not have been much. His basils belhaven location that he closed was always packed too. Obviously you don't close a place if it's making a lot of money. Restaurant biz is hard.

Signa's Grille in Ridgeland closed as well. Even restaurants that apparently do ok in the metro area seem to only have a shelf life of 3-4 years. Sad!

never heard of it

Hate to hear this. That location was a good one for a quick run down 55 for lunch during the week, especially if meeting friends working downtown or on Lakeland. With The Feathered Cow closing and Bill's already gone, the options in that area are getting fewer and fewer. I heard that the Hong Kong Teahouse is gone also. That one did good business and was starting to build a pretty big following.

Bummer! Love their burgers and sweet potato fries and banana pudding. I'll miss having them close-by but will track them down at the Rez.

6;24, so according to your logic, and 8:23s statement, Ridgeland is a dying city?

I will go to the Rez for my Feathered Cow fix. As a matter of fact, I would rather go their new location than continue to go to the 55N location. I think most of their patrons would feel the same way.

Nathan and his team have some great restaurants. It is sad that this spot is closing but I hope he finds another spot in the north Jackson area.

Meanwhile, Hugh Kellenberger the so-called sports editor of the clarion liar embarrassed himself today using a letter sent to the texas am football coach as an excuse to smear Trump and write a left-wing political column. Liar is a damn joke.

8:47 used the word banana, hope no one is offended.

I loved the Feathered Cow but I couldn't go back. They evidently don't have an exhaust fan over the stove and I'd smell like it the rest of the day. There are others I can't re-visit too like Beagle Bagel. It annoys my co-workers that I'd smell like a line cook. Both are/were excellent eats!

@6:54
Owner is a proud resident of the city of Jackson and has several other restaurants within the city. Read the article... also with fine & dandy opening soon in the district it would be a tough go at it for burger joints.

I have been to both locations. I have lived in Jackson for 33 years and getting out at the Jackson location and always having to look over your shoulder is not very fun. The reservoir location is always popping. The 3 times I have been, I had to wait for a table... The jackson location, not so much. I can't blame him for wanting to focus the Feathered Cow brand on the reservoir store and get away from the Jackson location.

Everyplace Nathan Glenn has opened as been very good, but he does close/move a lot. A few years ago when he closed the Belhaven Basil's and the place he had in the Amite/Congress corner of the Plaza Building downtown, he said it was to concentrate on his Fondren restaurants.. but he kept (I assume) the downtown Basil's and then turned around shortly afterward and opened Feathered Cow. We have patronized FC frequently and found it to be generally busy, but there was often insufficient parking, that exhaust fan thing someone else mentioned, and I've heard others complain of the smell of the cigar shop next door wafting in. My guess is all in all, this was more a set of logistical problem Nathan couldn't fix and decided to move on. Good luck, Nathan, but the NE Jxn FC will be missed!

Wow! I've seen Feather Cow at the Rex and never knew what is was. I thought it was a Nail Salon or a boutique.

Long Live the Feathered Cow and Nathan Glen; every place he and his family have opened have been solid, affordable eating spots. I understand that the Feathered Cow on the Rez, is not owned by Mr. Glen...however, I will certainly drive to get that Fried Chicken Sandwich and those butter Fries!
What's next, Mr. Glen?

Was there one day and the A/C in the building was not working. Waitress was complaining that they had issues with it several times. May have more to do with the building issues because the food and service was dang good. Butter fries and spicy chicken sandwich was good stuff for a quick lunch.

The Mercedes-Benz Dealership is moving out of Jackson in 83 days. Chokeway is the captain of a sinking ship.

@8:40
Nathan is not closing Jackson location due to displeasure of the city. He lives in the city and is an absolute advocate for Jackson. A high end burger joint is opening within the district at Easter near cantina Laredo and this is pressure for roosters his other burger joint in fondue as well as feathered cow.look, newsflash many restaurants in the burbs are owned by citizens of jackson. My neighbors own junikers in Madison and left highland village due to some disputes with new owners and they relocated to Madison but live in Jackson I mean it's the nature of any business. Doesn't reflect the city necessarily.

8:40 you have been trolling that same bullshit for years. You are beyond old. Any idiot can see that Jackson is not a sinking ship, even though your racist ass wants it to be.

I'm going to take a wild guess and speculate that the lease agreement was up for renewal and he high tailed it to a more suitable location where the landlord wasn't a slumlord.

@2:31
The new owners of highland village wouldn't allow Juniker to expand there storefront and they bailed... they're proud residents of NE Jackson but had no choice in the matter... I'm sure they would much prefer to remain in Highland village rather than drive from eastover to Madison ... I see Albrittions jewelers are nearly finished with there new building across from highland village.

I don't think Signa's in Ridgeland ever really had an intent to stay or a stake in the city. There was ZERO about the outward appearance of the place, no effort to draw or keep a customer base. Sandwiches at lunch? Big deal. Who even knew the hours of operation. Remember, though....the same family opened and closed Doe's Eat Place in Ridgeland 30 years ago. No real effort or heart in it at all. Just like Signa's.

But....back to Feathered Whatever. A burger joint in a high-crime city is not typically a destination outing. The Krystal on North State can pick up the slack.

Probably a lease thing. If I remember correctly, this is about the time of the year it opened.

Jackson a high-crime city!? LMAO!!!!!

You wussy's in the burbs will go yack it up in New Orleans and Memphis without a hitch, but are afraid of Jackson??? LMAO!!!!

The stuff that happens in Jackson a majority of the time is domestic/personal in nature. Anyone with common sense could tell the difference.

But when you are raised in a state of ignorant bliss, common sense is not so common in the first place.

The futility train keeps on smoking along in the metro area.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell.
