Hico Hoedown

The Flag Chapel Fight took place Sunday afternoon at Lake Hico.  The fight almost looked like a real boxing match.  There were boxing gloves, a referee, and even rounds.  Blows were traded but unfortunately no one yelled "stick and move."  However, the fight ended when someone pulled a gun and start shooting.  The video is posted below.  The gun is fired around 15:00.

Sad

Man, I really didn't see that one coming at all.

See, Jackson, this is why you can't have nice things. Or even things, really.

Starting at 15:05 could you please provide a translation?

No doubt another JJ -- Republican conspiracy to demean Jackson in the eyes of Mississippi and the world.

I'm surprised the JFP didn't have a sports editor there. After all, this was a cultural event for West Jackson. Heck, next time hold it at the Zoo, the gem of West Jackson--they can charge admission, pad down for weapons, and the little ones can ride the merry go round.

After all, it just took one person with a gun to ruin this otherwise wonderful family friendly event.

The flyer very clearly said NO GUNS. Does no one follow the rules any more?

I watched about 2 minutes of it before becoming bored with the whole thing.
I will say that is a big crowd of fat people.

Good family fun! Memories being made to cherish for a lifetime.

Clearly perfunctory @9:03.

Raines has a pretty little park with a walking trail. I wish these thugs would go back to the park at the Rez in Ridgeland to have these get-togethers.

One of the boxers appears to be wearing knee pads. Give him some credit, thats not a bad idea when boxing on concrete

I take it this was part of A Taste of West Jackson this past weekend?

I'm surprised that it took 15 minutes to dissolve into utter choas.

No head gear, no mouth pieces, no bell,

Does't JPD have a recreational boxing program?

Don King said...

Yeah right 8:41

They recruited the fighters (the boxing ones), set up the venue, and (unbeknownst to event goers) had the shooter stealth in at 15 minutes... all in a perfect way to 'frame' Jackson in a certain light.

Pretty smart, huh?

If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.

Boxing, shooting, and track events, all in one. Good times!

Re 10:48 - I mistyped "Chaos".

I've often thought of how terrible it must be to come from a culture that, every time you go to a gathering (night club, private party, family reunion, etc.), there's the genuine possibility that someone could get shot!

Seriously. That's no joke.

The other day when this event was announced here on JJ I submitted a post that pretty much guaranteed that most would be packing heat at the event. My post didn't make the cut and was culled even though I identified all the street signs five times.

Anonymous said...

JJ, are you sure this is not from an episode of "The Wire"?

Anonymous said...

The flyer very clearly said NO GUNS. Does no one follow the rules any more?

Your post presumes that the majority of people attending such an event can read a two-word statement.

Who could have imagined thugs carrying guns in Jackson? Shocking.

Anonymous said...

either of these "boxers" would get absolutely destroyed in a real match.

Anonymous said...

You can't say they didn't try. That was actually a good boxing match until 'the hood' reasserted itself in the pecking order.

Anonymous said...

Ha! I called it two days ago--

Anonymous said...

Big momma with the red hair/orange top could have kicked either of these hood rats butts.

Probably a multi million dollar event by the time you count up all the hand outs that the spectators receive in a years time.

Louis LeFleur said...

Oh, so not anywhere near Flag Chapel after all, so I guess not a part of Taste of West Jackson either. If that's the case, they missed a really good crossover marketing opportunity. I think the next one should be in the Flag Chapel area if they're going to use that name. Maybe they could even get RTS to sponsor since it's all predestined anyway, right?

I noticed the ring rope was made from what could easily be used as crime scene tape. Convenient.

Dude, lighten up.
When he culls mine, I move on.
Up to Fish who he posts, and you aren't going to force your way on.

I suspect that the guy in the left corner, who appeared to be losing, told one of his group to fire a weapon. Had this gone on any longer the guy would likely have gone down.

Too bad it ended the way it did. Remove all the wanna be security, groupies and people taking selfies and you might get people to watch and make a few bucks too.

was this sanctioned by the mississippi athletic commission?

Anonymous said...

how much were tickets?

Anonymous said...

nobody there is underfed. that video gives whole new meaning to the term 'heavyweights'.

Anonymous said...

after the gunshot, the crowd response isnt' panic or fear--more 'meh' i guess many people in that crowd just expect gunfire to break out at events like this.

to be fair, our talented camera man runs for it.

They should join the Pearl Boxing Club. They're legit.

The third week, they could fill the coliseum. Uh if they could stop the shooting at 15 minutes.

I noticed the cinematographer throwing around the N word quite a bit as he vacated the scene of the shooting. Is that considered being a racist? I can't figure these things out anymore.

Anonymous said...

when the viedoograper used the N word,,,,,, well, thats just good ole black privilege .

Anonymous said...

Thank you for changing the headline so that our beloved Raines is not defamed.

I couldn't make it through the whole video but skipped to the shooting. And the 60 seconds after the shots easily puts this video in contention for top post of the year on jj. When are we getting organized on here? Do I need to be in charge of the year end awards?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
