Pantin responds to robocalls

Madison County Circuit Clerk candidate Michael Pantin issued the following statement:

Statement by Michael Pantin about Madison County Circuit Clerk Robocall

Please beware of a robocall circulating, spreading inaccurate information about Lee Westbrook's endorsement of me for circuit clerk. T

he mailing referenced was not paid for by anyone's tax dollars, nor were any county resources used to produce it. It was designed by volunteer members of my campaign team and paid for by Friends of Michael Pantin, as noted at the bottom of the letter. The letter clearly states "No public funds were used in the production or mailing of this letter." Suggesting otherwise is blatantly dishonest character assassination of Lee Westbrook, who has served the citizens of Madison County honorably for over 20 years. This robocall is just a desperate and shameful attempt to tarnish the reputation of one of Madison County's most loved and dedicated public servants.

Lee Westbrook has endorsed me because she believes I have the ability to serve the citizens of
Madison County with the same integrity and character with which she has served. I am honored
to have her trust and her endorsement.

Greg Brand at work?

What annoyed me was the envelope, which looked like official business from the circuit clerk's office.

I got this call and it endorsed Julia Hodges. Has Julia hired Brand?

The envelope did look like the official letterhead from the Circuit Clerk's office. That's a crafty way to get people to open a letter. I was expecting a summons for jury duty.

Wray's people have been trying to get Hodges and Pantin to attack one another for months and they've both refused to run dirty campaigns. My guess is Brand just got impatient and decided to do this call (attacking, quite possibly, the only non-corrupt politician in Madison County).

Who paid for that awful call? Is the Secretary of State and AG investigating this one, too?

Pantin's mailer was a desperate and shameful attempt to make Madison County voters believe this came from the current circuit clerk. I'm also disgusted with Lee Westbrook, a career politician, trying to hand-pick her next successor. Makes me wonder why. I notice most of his support is from trial lawyers. Follow the money people.

Who is Greg Brand? And better yet, who is Michael Pantin? I live in Madison County and have not heard of either one.

My family of 6 is voting for Hodges because of this letter.

Rita Wray keeps promoting herself as a Republican even though she has been a democrat for a long time and is supported by a number of Hinds County democrats.

Rita Wray and her late husband are indeed Republicans. She is a past State President of the Republican Women and I have been at trainings and other functions with her. She served in an appointed position for Gov. Barber. I did not even realize that she is the Wray that is running because I thought she was still in Rankin County. Not going to say who is getting my vote, but I believe all three are qualified and efficient people. I just cannot abide subterfuge in any form and wish those who practice it would wise up.

2:17, you are obviously in the Wray camp, if you aren't Greg Brand himself. Michael Pantin has never had the support of trial lawyers. The Hinds County liberal trial lawyers are lined up behind Anita Wray, because they want to interfere with our juries in Madison County.
Don't fall for these dirty tricks.
I have known Lee Westbrook a long time. Are these people so desperate they are saying Lee Westbrook is a political mastermind, and she's also stealing taxpayer money? They are out of their minds.

VOTE FOR MICHAEL PANTIN, and vote for decent professional behavior.

@2:17 Please provide proof of all of the trial lawyers who have donated money to Michael Pantin's campaign. His finance reports are public record. List all these "trial lawyers." You can't because they absolutely don't exist.

They are doing the same in Hinds County with Z.W. They want to mess with your juries and judge selections/rotations. Fight it because its not right.

Figuring out who is supported by the trial lawyers, and who an actual Republican (as opposed to someone who joined the Madison Co. republican party when she decided to run) is not hard, and there is no reason to argue about it. Look at the fundraisers the candidates have had and who the sponsors were. Anita Wray's fundraiser was sponsored by Hinds County trial lawyers and Hinds County democrats. They are listed right on the invitation.

I don't know whether I'll vote for Pantin or Hodges, but Hinds County government can stay in Hinds County. The last thing we need for economic development in Madison is Wray and her handlers creating another "judicial Hellhole."

Anita Wray and Rita Wray are two completely different people. They're not even the same color.

And Rita Wray is from Rankin County....

Why would an attorney of any stripe support a candidate for Circuit Clerk?

You goobs are pissing up a rope.

I've been hearing Rita Wray's commercials, as she struggles to pronounce words. What's up with that?

Why hasn't Julia Hodges filed her Statement of Economic Interest with the MS Ethics Commission? What is she hiding? A public records request produced this correspondence from the Mississippi Ethics Commission.

Ethics Commission Correspondence

Even after online filing procedures were sent to her in email, Hodges has not complied with the law. Ethics Commission Statement of Economic Interest Search Form

The duties of the circuit clerk include providing candidates who qualify for office with the necessary filing requirement instructions. How can Hodges be trusted to explain the rules as Circuit Clerk when she can't follow them?

Last Anita Wray is bad and almost the worst ad I have ever seen. Narrator assumes that you read on a 2nd grade level and slowly pronounces her name, etc. May be same voice of the person who did the robo call that just went out about Lee Westbrook letter.

It is inappropriate for the circuit clerk to say she is choosing her successor. I don't like it and want the voters to choose the next circuit clerk.

Anonymous said...

+1 on Pantin. Good guy. Will be an honest Circuit Clerk.

@12:02 Last I checked the polls are open today and voters are choosing their next circuit clerk. Lee Westbrook can only vote once no matter how many endorsements she gives or doesn't give.

The only people who are upset about an endorsement impacting the outcome of an election, are those whose candidates aren't getting any endorsements.

Does anyone else think it is weird for someone to spend $80,000 on a circuit clerk primary race in Madison? I heard Anita Wray even had TV spots. Throw in all of those (unreported) billboards, robo calls, signs, etc., and the Hinds County caliphate is going to be six figures deep into this thing if there's a runoff.

Lee Westbrook be ashamed that you sent the letter (looked like official business). I thought they were changing a voting place or something. To do this as you leave office tarnished your reputation. Still not as bad as the Andy Taggert last minute scam years ago.

4:16, You obviously have not ever met or talked to Zack Wallace. If you can find anybody who has anything bad to say about Zack, please post it. He's an intelligent, honorable, Christian young man who has never failed to help anyone who comes into the Hinds County Circuit Clerk's office. He's well-qualified and I'm glad he won. If you don't believe me, just ask anyone who has visited the Circuit Clerk's office about Zack's demeanor and reputation.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
