Abortion protestors show up at Fondren Presbyterian

Local attorney Dorsey Carson stood up to abortion protestors who were yelling at people attending Fondren Presbyterian Church in this video.  They were apparently holding up very graphic posters depicting abortion.  The video is posted with his permission.

Abortion is great. I'm even ok with my tax dollars going towards it. I think we should offer free abortions to our thug population, to keep them from breeding like rabbits.

The liberals are aware of the original purpose of planed parenthood, right?

Ouch. Bless his heart, Mr. Carson is a touch confused. The protestors were not on church property. And whether the timing and location of the demonstration is "appropriate" or not, his little tirade is demonstrative, isn't it? It's hard to be confronted with the truth about what is abortion (especially late term). Sometimes it can be a good thing for otherwise good but complacent people to see evil for what it is.

9:18-one cannot get an abortion in Mississippi after 15 weeks. and Mr. Carson does not support abortion and did call the signs pictures of murder scenes--what more do you want?

instead of holding signs, paying money for signs, the protesters should help those who have had abortions or who are considering having one--sponsoring children, adopting children, mental health care for those who have had one and regret it--this accomplished nothing. NOTHING. they aren't changing people's hearts and minds, only inflaming the division between the groups. Jesus accepts any who repent--and yes, even those who have had abortions and now consider it wrong

Oh liberals liberals liberals. You make it easy to get benefits from the cradle to the grave, But you make it extremely difficult to get to the cradle.

It's a church. Why would he yell? I assume the church is pro life. He should've grab a sign and supported pro life!

@9:11 it's people like YOU that make me really not care for white people.... You guys now use "thug" in replace of "ni99er"... Just admit it, you're scared of black people unless they are yes sir'ing/yes ma'aming you. Lol. I could almost bet, you're the descendant of a slave owner. I can Also almost bet, you would never voice your watered down insults to ANY so-called "thug" unless you were cowering behind a gun. Lol . Be comfy behind your anonymous tag. You race will be annihilated eventually (genetically not forcibly). <---pleasantries

One comment was fine but for one word so I'll repost it.

Those xxxxxx were in Fondren all weekend with those signs. Their signs ruined the parade for my child and other young kids. They are total freaks who do more harm than good to their cause.

Kingfish said...

All right, no more race crap. I allowed the first comment and the response. That's it.

These folks are genetically linked to the Westboro folks. Its fine to believe what you want and to even protest it but leave people alone at church OR a soldier's funeral.

I agree that holding a protest in front of a church on Palm Sunday was disrespectful. And, though I'm staunchly pro-life, I also know the signs are controversial. I can understand Mr. Carson's frustration, and I can understand both sides of the debate regarding the use of such signs in general. That said, if the abortionists are correct, the signs merely depict surgical procedures on bodily organs, and in that sense are no different than any medical educational video. Hard to look at, but no more problematic than a picture of an open-heart surgery, lung transplant or anything else. However, if the pro-lifers are correct, the signs depict the violent death of innocent human beings. The use of such signs may or may not be justified in a public setting, but we need to at least examine our consciences on why we accept the practice of abortion so readily in our culture. What signs like these depict is what our government allows in certain clinics across the country every day. It may not be nice to look at, but whether such procedures are moral or not is something we should each ponder at some point. We owe that both to the babies affected and to the women who find themselves in difficult pregnancies.

If only Mr. Dorsey showed as much concern over the PCUSA's rejection of orthodox Christianity than "offensive" photos.

But that would not be politically or socially correct, now would it?

Anonymous said...

These protesters have a perverted fascination with abortion. They get off on shocking ordinary people quietly going about their day with their disgusting imagery. How many pictures do you pour over to land on the one that this man holds, or that they broadcast on the sides of their vans. The revolting signs do nothing to further the pro life cause and serve only to drive people to the other side of the issue. The protesters hateful and cruel. I hope Dorsey didn't just embolden them to return to the church.

9:18 said: "instead of holding signs, paying money for signs, the protesters should help those who have had abortions or who are considering having one--sponsoring children, adopting children, mental health care for those who have had one and regret it--"

Ummm, you are wrong. I know several people who protest abortion. They do the things you suggest plus they visit people in jails and help in literacy programs. Obviously, they have little free time and don't watch TV.

As for 9:18, what do you do other than spew venom toward those who try to make a difference in the world?

While you are correct that the pictures "merely depict surgical procedures on bodily organs", may I take your response farther?
Suppose you owned a burger joint, would your "acceptance" be the same if people stood outside with graphic photos of cows being processed for hamburger meat?
Actually, I'm surprised the anti meat eaters group hasn't picked up on this idea.
While a bowel movement is a natural bodily function in all animals, I don't particularly find it necessary to see it plastered in living color in public places.

The signs were the problem. It's terrible our children are being exposed to this filth. You don't have the freedom to yell fire in a movie house, display porn, and ethically, morally, to show graphic pictures of war beheadings, setting people on fire, or babies torn from the womb. These protesters say they are pro life but are really disingenuious when they display such graphic porn. Old children should have to live in such a hard world. Our children get enough filthy pictures on the news, video games, and movies.
Sick, Sick, Sick. The church needs to sue the protestors because they denied the Church their freedom of religion. I'm sure there are many lawyers on this blog who would accept such a case. Dig deep church and sue the heck out of these nut jobs.

The only problem I have with what Dorsey did was he filmed in landscape mode. Come on man.

Anonymous said...

I meant portrait. Even I can't get it straight.

10:46 it's 9:18. What venom? To say that those signs don't change anything? They were denying a church it's right to worship the God of their choice in peace.

I also know people who travel around and protest abortion.

You don't know me or what I do. I don't know you or what you do. But I do know that if these people showed up at my church Id invite them to worship. Perhaps they could see that Jesus loves people other than White Westboro Baptist Church type people too.

Seems the Presbyterian Church is even OK with the killing of living babies.

The women look like they just got off the chuck wagon.

They were outside Saltine on Friday night. One guy had a GoPro on his chest just waiting for a confrontation. They want you to be disturbed and get a reaction. If all goes well, they get pushed or punched and then they sue the crap out of you. That money goes back in the pot to buy more disgusting posters and troll some more.

They are no different than radical Muslims.

Anonymous said...

Trolls. Most were paid to protest. Several of the pictures were from dead Iraq babies.

Anonymous said...

The signs are fine. If the government wants us to pay for birth control and abortions thru taxes then how can you get mad at these folks? Abortion is being forced on everyone including the church. See the Scotus cases pending and the recent child trafficking bill. It's held up so the democrats can use government funds for abortion. Get a clue. Most kids video games are bloodier and more violent than these pics.

I've heard several people say they will not eat lunch in Fondren, especially Roosters and Basils, because of the protester's graphic signs. Wonder if those restaurant owners, or any business owners in the immediate area for that matter, could take some sort of legal action against the group.

Good for Dorsey. I greatly admire Dorsey's courage. Especially I admire Dorsey's courage in the face of nuts trying to disrupt the worship service of Fondren Presbyterian Church. They have no right to violate the law by making a complete, disruptive nuisance of themselves in front of a peaceful congregation and Church. I hope these nuts were arrested and locked away for breaking the peace and security of the Fondren area.

Anonymous said...

This is admittedly presumptuous, but I'd be willing to wager the majority of radical anti-abortion picketers are also anti GLBT. Many who oppose public displays of GLBT behavior claim it is emotionally distressing to surrounding children, especially young children. Moms and Dads all over cringe just thinking about the ensuing questions their little ones will dream up, expecting a perfectly logical response from their all-knowing parent.

The same goes for these grotesque pictures used on signs in the video and in front of the clinic on State St any random day. My almost 4 year old daughter doesn't need to see those scenes anymore than she needs to understand what goes on inside the clinic.

Anonymous said...

1:09 PM, besides potentially trespassing on Fondren's property what laws were broken?

Anonymous said...

According to a statement from St. Luke's, these "protestors" were paid and from out of state. When invited to speak to the congregation about their beliefs, they declined and wished to remain outside. If you are given an open forum to discuss the basis of your protest, why would you decline unless you are just being paid to stir up trouble. When pushed, many said they had no real opinion on abortion and just being paid.

Anonymous said...

1:25 They don't have to break a law to be sued.

"They are no different than radical Muslims."

I missed the news - how many non-believers got decapitated or burned alive in cages at Saltine Saturday night?

The Anit-Douchebaggery law for starters.

Laws against harassment and nuisance.

It's a shame those inbred protesters weren't aborted. We would be better off without them.

How can I get mad at these folks?

Because, like all fanatics, they have no respect for the rights of others. It's their way or the highway.

They are protesting the religious beliefs of the Presbyterian Church, USA. Or did you miss that?

They are trying to impose their religious beliefs on other Christians! Their denominational or Catholic beliefs are apparently the only "real Christian beliefs" in their minds.

I doubt a one of them could tell you how Jews or other religions see the abortion issue!

This is no different from fanatical, fundamentalists Muslims trying to impose their beliefs on moderate Muslims.

And, their fanaticism has already caused murder and bombing already in this country. Or have y'all forgotten?

They say they care about children but don't mind traumatizing them by screaming angrily and exposing them to gory photos in their protest at schools, at churches, at funerals.

They invariably have their own young children with them and that is inappropriate. They know their children can be exposed to angry reactions to he protest and take them anyway. Do they tell their children, " Come here, Mommy and Daddy are disagreeing and mad at each and we want you to hear us yell at each other and bring the neighborhood children ".

Radicalism didn't crop up overnight in the Middle East. It started with the same kind of nuts getting more and more power in their local areas.

I'm not just mad, these people are scary. And, those of you who overlook their tactics because you agree with their religious view on this are no different from the Muslims who also overlooked the " means" their radicals used until they became victims as well.

I'm all for offering women alternatives to abortion. I'm all for supporting those women who find themselves pregnant , alone and without resources. I'm all for making certain all children grow up safe and well and loved.

But, these narrow minded people are against birth control, sex education, and don't care if the mother dies and want to force raped females ( some of whom are as young as 10 because puberty now starts that young) to either die or give birth to a rapist's child who then will have parental rights!

They totally lack any comprehension of negative consequences to their demands. Not a one of them knows what happens to the unwanted children who are born because they made getting an abortion all but impossible. Nor will they know about the children who grew up without a father or without a mother in their lives. They don't care if the rapist has genetic mental illness that the rape victim and her family will have to cope with the rest of their lives. Not their problem. They got to feel more righteous than anyone else!

And, that's what these protesters are, self-righteous!

As far as I'm concerned y'all can believe whatever the hell you want, but I draw the line at you trying to impose your religious beliefs( and that's what they are) on the whole damn country.

Is Carson running for office again? When there's a camera politicians jump in front? Wanna bet that purvis chick is considering a run to. If so, explains her war on Weill.

8:09 Well said. These crazy people are trying to impose their fundamentalist religious ideas on the rest of us.

And you gotta remember: some of these people holding ups signs may be dangerous. Remember the Doctor who was shot to death in FL?

You are trying to impose your beliefs on them. No difference. Pot meets kettle, but denies the similarity.

Dorsey Carson said...

They protested at all the Fondren churches. Graphic violent photos and images may be proper (or legal at least) for adults to see; but should never be displayed where children are likely to see. Parents understand best what is age-appropriate for their children, and others should not be able to unilaterally decide to expose my 4 year old and other children to images of violence. Others don't have the right to decide if and when I take my child to a rated R movie, and we have restrictions on those. I met the guy holding the sign during my campaign, and I was hoping that he would recall me and stop exposing our children to traumatic photos. Opponents of pornography do not have the right to expose my child to pornography. Our laws universally provide for protection of children against pornography, but we are alright with exposing our children to traumatic photos? This is not about abortion. This is about providing safety for our children, and protecting their psychological well-being.

Anonymous said...

My question to you, Mr. Carson. Why do people protest? To go unnoticed or to bring attention to their agenda? Congratulations, you provided them an opportunity, as well as yourself, a larger outlet than deserved.

Most people, including anti abortion supporters, disagree with such a radical and graphic approach these individuals took outside your church. So, you're preaching to the choir.

I for one am tired of the mongering on both sides.

P.S. How do you plan to "provide safety for our children, and protecting their psychological well being" when you post such a graphic video on Youtube for anyone's child to potentially see?

What these people did holding up obscene signs and shouting before small children and their parents in front of church congregations on a Sunday morning was not normal protest or speech. It was beyond disgusting. It was an assault on the peace of the churches and congregations. Dorsey Carson is quite correct in trying to shield his fellow church members from it. There is no equivalence here between "both sides". What these people did is inexcusable, indecent, and should not be allowed.

Anonymous said...

Dorsey, were the protestors charged with any crimes when the police arrived? Understand your frustration but were they charged with anything?

Robert Wise said...

They should be chargeable with disorderly conduct in breaching the peace of the churches.

Dorsey Carson said...

@8:42 They were not charged with anything. I was told by the commanding officer that they were within their rights to hold graphic photos and yell at our congregants.

@2:33 I posted the video to my private Facebook page. I don't have any young children as Facebook friends (and you have to be a teenager to have a FB account), and I had several congregants with children who thanked me for the warning so that they could avoid the signs. I suspect most of the children posting here are actually adults who just comment like children, so when KF asked me if he could post, I obliged.

Out of the respect to those lives lost and the ones offended by the grotesque pictures, you might want to request him to take it down. Clearly, you have garnered the attention you so desired.

Of course they thanked you for your brave crusade. Talking to crazies is really hard. I often times wish we had you, along with your camera phone, highlighting our city council meetings and reminding people you are Dorsey Carson.

However, I must concede your fan base has grown.

She said, "I want
My right to life"

I drove by this scene Sunday. I was also eating at Rooster's in Fondren about a year ago when similar photos were being displayed on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant (and across from the abortion clinic). While I am uncomfortable with this tactic and I think it is inappropriate to display these type pictures in front of a restaurant and possibly in front of a church, due to the children present, I do appreciate the fact that there is nothing more barbaric than abortion for convenience, especially late term abortion, and it is sickening that many church denominations are condoning, and sometimes even counseling for, abortion. Between showing gruesome signs and condoning or promoting abortion, I am comfortable that the latter action is much more immoral and offensive

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
