Check out this video about the Jackson water crisis from last week.
By the way, that video was footage of Brandon flooding. You can't make this up.

If I remember correctly, the wastewater treatment plant for Rankin County didn't even cost $100M to build. Now the City of Jackson is saying $1B per water treatment plant. Is it a wonder why infrastructure in this city is in such a mess?
I didn't realize that there are 8 major universities in Jackson.
Where are the engineering studies that document this is a $1 billion or $2 billion problem? Those figures most likely are off the top of the mayor's head because that's how much he he wants, not how much he needs. As usual, there's no plan from the mayor or his apologist Grizzell.
Are democrats just this stupid? It's like mass gaslighting and they are telling you they are gaslighting you!
When these jokers talk to national media they think they can say just about anything, as long as it plays to the prevailing narrative about Mississippi. The fix of Jackson's water treatment plant and the ultimate replacement of Jackson's water infrastructure are very different. Confusing the two makes a city councilman look at least uniformed, probably silly. But he don't care as long as it shifts the blame...
He was drooling everytime he said "billion."
There is no fucking way that those plants, which DO NOT need to be replaced, would cost anywhere near that amount. He didn't even include all of the pipes, both water and sewer, that need to be replaced, which would be an opportunity to repave the streets.
I see luxury cars, beachfront condos, and offshore accounts in their future.
The 8 major universities in Jackson are JSWho (ranked 7th Least Diverse College in the US), MillSAPS, Belhaven, Tougaloo, Mississippi College (served brown water by Jackson???), UMC Medical, UMC Dental, and UMC Nursing, using the new math (take one subcampus of UM, and divide by 3).
And that's not even counting Strayer, Virginia College, KLLM Trucking School, the Academy of Hair Design, and the School of Hard Knocks.
1256, the City of Jackson is not paying $1 Billion for anything. This number is just like all the other crap that has spewed out of the Mayor's mouth over the last couple of years - and then of course repeated by folks like his todies on the council and by ignorant folks in the national media that will repeat anything they hear without any questions asked.
The $1billion number first arose in 2021 when Lumumba said that it would cost $1 billion to REPLACE the water system in Jackson. Not just the treatment plantS, but the entire system.
First off, nobody has suggested that the system, or any part of it, should be replaced. At least nobody with any sense or any concept of what they are talking about (that definition absolutely includes the Mayor).
There is no reason to even be talking of replacing the Curtis Water Treatment Plant. Lumumba, and his psycophants repeat the line that we have an aging ancient system, oftentimes likening it to being over 50 years old. As has been reported here on JJ and others, Curtis plant was first built in 92, and expanded in '07. Thirty and fifteen years old.
Hell, Lumumba even said a couple of years ago that folks moved to Northeast Jackson because it was close to the water plant. Little did he acknowledge that NE Jackson was built in the 60's and 70's. while the plant was built in the early 90's/ No bother, ignore the facts - tell the white tale. It will work with the media as it exists today. (And that belies the fact that anybody makes a living locational choice based on its proximity to a treatment facility, but hell if you are the Mayor and they will buy it why not sell the idea.)
City of Jackson - The gift that keeps on giving.
I think the billion dollar figure includes the pipes, which is another discussion.
Since he's attached to Lumumba at the rump Grizzell has learned first hand to act like an expert, pretend you are authoritative and just say anything. He must have wet his pants in excitement of getting to speak with Roland Martin.
$1 billion, $2 billion, $3 billion. You know it is ALL a swag Kingfish.
I do wonder if corruption were a line item-- what would we have to pay these people? Maybe the Mayor and the city council should just on TV and say plainly what THEIR price is --then we could just pay them and move forward. Two billion is a joke.
Chowke hasn't used the tried and true "parts are no longer available," which is what the military industrial complex uses when they want to manufacture new make/model military aircraft.
I’ve known Brian for years. He’s a wierd dude
Not to mention he’s a total moron when it comes to numbers. I guess he got those figures from phD Omari. Such a idiot. I can’t stand listening to this ignorance. This is as painful as listening to the Otha Cain show
Why settle for a billion or two when you can get a Grizzellion (or two). Right.
The irony is that the ex CEO of Kohler Toilets died today. He could make more billions off of more "cyclical" design and political opportunism.
If only he was around to get a contract for Biden's No Behind Left Behind program sure to sprout out of this.
Shake that tin cup. Councilman. Why don't you see to getting the meters replaced and the billing system working right?
@ 1:48; You forgot, to act like a victim of racism.
Reminder: these “leaders” behave this way and still demand that we take them seriously and treat them with dignity.
It will cost a billion. Or wait. It could cost two billions. When the Governor asks for the plan, a random number pulled from somebody’s a$$ is not a plan.
All of these folks throw out ‘a billion’ because they simply can’t comprehend or understand an amount that big. There’s really not much difference in a ‘billion’ or a ‘million’, is there really?
It’s a shame y’all have to learn to fend for yourself. What a dumb statement to act like fending for yourself is a hassle.
Even Dr. Evil in Austin Powers needed only one million dollars.
