The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.
On Sunday, September 25th, 2022, Capitol Police Officers were involved in an officer involved shooting after attempting to initiate a traffic stop on E. Mayes St. in Jackson, Mississippi. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Jaylen Lewis, has succumbed to his injuries received in this incident. The officers involved are on administrative leave until such time as the internal investigation is completed and they are approved to return to active service. “An internal investigation into this incident is underway and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting its own independent inquiry and will present its findings to the Attorney General’s office,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. “Such incidents require a thorough investigation, scrutiny, and transparency. Therefore, any releasable information regarding this incident will be made public by the Department of Public Safety at the appropriate time.” The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating and currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Since this is an ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made at this time.Kingfish note: Lewis was not unknown to the police. Deputies arrested Lewis last year.
A Hinds County grand jury indicted him for possessing between one and five kilos of weed. The docket states:
Sentencing ORDER as to JAYLEN LEWIS (1), Count(s) 1, NON-ADJUDICATION OF GUILT, Non-Adjudication: 1 Year, (365 days) 2 YEARS UNSUPERVISED PROBATION $25 WITH $24,000 PAYABLE TODAY AND BALANCE IN 60 DAYS $1000 DA FEES PAYABLE 11/23/21. He was a major player in the Jackson drug arena if you simply go by the obscene amount of cash he is fanning around on his Facebook page. I’m pretty sure he was well-armed as well.
Very few details makes you wonder if this one is going to be a bad look for the hat’s deputies. Have they even said why he was being pulled over? Covering up basic info isn’t in the best interest of anyone.
Damn. This enterprising young man had the best weed in town -- and there are a lot of dealers -- his grass was always of the highest quality and at a reasonable price. He will be missed.
Yesterday on WAPT Stokes made a comment that " Jackson didn't need no Barney Fife types running around..?" I've personally never seen any law enforcement in Jackson that looked anything like Barney Fife....
Jacktown is just a small fraction safer today with the succumbing of that dirtbag.
Covering up basic info isn’t in the best interest of anyone.
What 'basic info" has been covered up? Be specific and provide your proof of a cover up.
Marijuana is literally the shittiest drug you can consume, behind alcohol. Imagine already being cursed with a 70 IQ and further wasting your precious brain cells smoking low grade ditch weed in dogshit blunts. In my opinion, nothing beats pure cocaine snorted through 24k gold straws.
The world is now a better place.
Kenneth Stokes thinks the capital police are going to start a war with the peoples. Right. Right.
Remember to throw rocks, sticks and stones at the police! per Kenneth Stokes 2020
One of Chowke's dope boys suffered fatal lead poisoning, right?
If you're being followed by an unmarked vehicle at night time in Jackson (no lights or sirens), would you not assume that a robbery or hit was about to occur?
I would defend myself as well.
Capitol Police Officers making Jackson safer one step at a time.
Thank you for your service.
Something is very wrong. A thug was shot and killed by police. There is all kinds of investigations going on. A citizen of Jackson gets shot while at home sleeping or walking down the street, it barely makes the news. About the only investigation is done by some cop asking three or four people standing around the body if they say anything.
What the hell are we doing when the killing of some thug breaking the law is seeing so much more investigation than the death of any other citizen who is not breaking the law?
@10:40 - all that has been released is the name of the guy they shot and a general location of the shooting. Everything else related to this is unknown and the cops aren’t talking.
Marijuana should be legal.
So Rev. Dwayne Pickett was buddies with Lewis?
more lead=less crime
way to go Capitol Police! this citizen thanks you for exterminating this so called 'human'
11:26 made some excellent comments. This example is a perfect indication that our justice system is in disarray.
But, but, he was a good boy that didn't hang around a bunch of people and had trust issues, says the mother at the "press conference". Typical.......
If the Devil's Tobacco was legal, this POS wouldn't have had over a quarter million in cash from selling it.
The people specifically voted to legalize both medical AND recreational marijuana, but the will of the people was muzzled by a lawyer's trick over outdated language about the number of districts, which is inconsequential to the intent of the law allowing the people to vote on referendums. This one referendum was singled out by our Puritan "betters" as evidenced by no previous referendums were overturned nor was the outdated language resolved by our legislators, who are theoretically in office to enforce the will of the voters that put them there. Shut up, peasants. You'll have what they allow, so know your place.
PSA: if every single incumbent regardless of political affiliation is voted out in the next city/county/state election, the new legislators will be much more receptive to DOING WHAT WE ELECTED THEM FOR.
ALL the ones currently in office are woefully incompetent and/or willfully malignant. They deserve the boot.
Where were all these people when this thug was selling dope? Did any of them try to stop him from selling dope?
Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Thanks for posting this J.J. Lewis has an extensive criminal background. This is a small part of his arrest record. Rev. Pickett made several false statements about the incident. My condolences to the family of Lewis, but there are consequences when dealing with drugs. The Police has a good to do and when their lives are put in danger its not always a good outcome. As for Benny Strokes he's a Joke himself ,no need to explain his findings just go listen to his comedy show.
Stokes when a criminal is killed: "This is racist and we must fight back!"
Stokes when there is no water to drink: *crickets*
And that, my friends, is why Jackson and all Democrat cities will never be anything but sh*tholes.
But I thought this was the world of rocks, sticks, stones. . .
There is no cover up! I would have shot also if he was about to assault me ! Once the report is released we won’t hear a word about him or from his family.
I thought every one was getting a bit too premature about wanting a Stoke's cap.
Stokes mispoke saying three blacks killed by Capitol Police: three were shot, only one died. He wants the cops to explain circumstances so his ward-homies don't blame law enforcement like he, Kenny, used to do.
I'm all in with the Capital Police.. Jackson hasn't had a PD for 10 Years or so. Stop, Look, listen, Release etc, etc... Capitol Police seem to be the Real Deal, adhere or Suffer the consequences- nuf said.
I will not stop for an unmarked car flashing lights at night. That car will have to follow me to the nearest police station, and I will then stop after I have called 911. Unless they shoot through my car and kill me, of course.
Why, they look like such nice boys.
It seems likely that the victim, knowing his past issues with the law, may have done something that warranted the use of force against him. The issue I have is that the police won’t even give the most basic of details about this. Was he armed? Did he fire a weapon? Why was he being pursued? I don’t think it’s too much to ask for the police to provide some information when they kill someone. It’s basic respect for the citizens and keeps everyone from assuming the worst.
The criminal thugs haven’t got the word yet that the kid gloves are off. The Capital Police are in Town!
Thank you and Thank you! It been a long time coming that we have so type of Law and Order in Jackson!
To the naysayers, teach the young men to be Law Abiding citizens, nobody is picking on you!
But, his momma says he was targeted with his preacher apparently doing his own investigation. Probably was a target since he was being followed, but then again, he has given the cops reason enough to follow from his past behavior and charges. Some CI probably dropped a dime on St. Jaylen.
The citizens, workers downtown and visitors can now have a sense of Safety in the downtown Jackson area since the Capital Police have presence/jurisdiction in that area.
It’s time to quit playing games with these fools! They have destroyed their communities and now spilling over to mine.
Thanks to the Governor and the Capital Police!
Come on Mayor work together and make our City safe! We deserve better! Leave a good Legacy!
Momma just upset because her cash cow just dried up. She didn't get one in the NFL or NBA so this was the best alternative. "Short money". I imagine the ole Rev. Pickett's plates gonna be lighter as well.
@9:09 - what a horrible human being you are. You should reconsider your life.
That's not the picture the news is showing. Hmmmm....
Was a firearm produced by the deceased?
Was the deceased vehicle used in the manner of a deadly weapon?
9:48 We are tired of excuses, parents need to teach their kids do not break the law. No one went looking for this young man out of 200,000 residents in the tri- county area. Why him? He did something and it cost him his life.
The pastor is just being the pastor!
9:48 blame Judge Faye Peterson. He came before her court and a blessing was awarded. If he was locked up, he may have lived a little longer.
I’m sure he was loved by many but no one came looking for him!
These Hinds County Judges must give longer sentences when these young men are convicted of crimes so mothers won’t blame the police for their demise.
Momma should be investigated for her complicity in his crimes.
Exactly right 9:09!!!
