The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 693 new cases of the
Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 9 new deaths. The total number of
cases
is 27,900. The virus has caused 1,082 deaths. Nursing home deaths
comprise 50% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are
17,242 recoveries. More information and a complete list of
infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt factor is 1.14.
Hospitalizations continue to surge.
The sharp rise in cases and hospitalizations correlate to the sharp rise in the Rt value that took place at the end of May.

Covidiots in 3...2...1...
"Mississippi State Department of Health reported 693 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday". Of this and other previous numbers, how many are asymptomatic versus actually ill. Positive doesn't mean ill or dying. I tested positive and never had a day of any illness. The fact that the state is now testing more folks looking for antibodies to extort plasma. Still not impressed by the numbers.
How many of those hospitalizations were actually admitted to the hospitals because of Covid-19? One would think journalists would be interested in finding out that number.
Y'all really will find any reason to minimize this. Don't let anyone say Mississippians aren't smart, covid has got people performing mental gymnastics worthy of Harvard Law.
I am more caring than the rest of you. I wear my mask all the time! Even when I'm driving by myself. I almost passed out while driving, but I rolled down the window and the fresh air was enough to keep me from passing out.
Think people! If you want to be safe, you have to really take your mask wearing serious, and nobody is taking it more serious than I am!
Keep on going. We'll get the to point where we have to follow the leads of Texas, California, and Florida and shut down bars, beaches, and other areas where infections are being spread uncontrolled.
The new normal. It's not just the mask, the loss of freedom won't stop because you're too afraid to take off your mask. You virtue your willingness to cease control of your life and let the government control you. You are owned now, but hey you're breathing, just not alive.
Do we have to wear the mask when we sleep?
Are they going to hire people to look in on us when we sleep to make sure we are wearing a mask?
@1:57
LOL you're a bigger menace than the virus.
The championship football coaches around the country have been telling us to wear masks since March. That is all I need to hear, but when I see the scores of idiots around here not wearing them, I have haunting fears that our college football season will be postponed or . . . worse. And that pisses a lot of us off.
WEAR. A. MASK.
I must be missing something in all of this. Let's all agree that no one WANTS to wear a mask, but is it really THAT big of a deal? Are all of the objections to wearing one just a knee-jerk response to the government asking (or demanding) that we wear one? No one on the planet dislikes or distrusts our government more than I do, but just because they're recommending / making us wear a mask is not reason enough for me to reject wearing one!
The way I look at it is this: I'm SO ready for this shit to be over with, I'm willing to take the chance that wearing a mask will actually help shorten the outbreak. Am I positive it will? No, but my common sense tells me it's reasonable to believe it could. Since the virus spreads through contact with other people (not horses or cars or trees or buildings or asphalt or sunlight), my analytical mind tells me that blocking other people's "stuff" (and/or their mask blocking their "stuff" from me) might have an impact and cut down on / prevent further spread. Therefore, wearing a mask isn't an attack on my personal freedom, it may simply be a wise move to cut down on the further spread of what is, generally, a mild disease, but one that CAN be deadly to some. If you're one who's able to determine who will and will not have a serious/deadly reaction to the disease, you might be a candidate for the Nobel Prize in medicine.
Bottom line: I don't look forward to wearing a mask. In fact, I don't like it. However, most of us have had a pretty damn easy life overall (even those who claim they haven't), when compared to those in, say, the greatest generation, so if I have to be inconvenienced a bit or feel uncomfortable for 30 minutes at a time during my day, that seems like an awfully small price to pay to help make this virus die off quicker. At that point, I can quit having to deal with ANYTHING concerning it.
Does that position make any sense to anyone else or is it, like everything else in today's world......racist?
The mask rule is very simple. Wear one that covers your mouth and nose when you are in a public area.
You don't have to wear one in your own house, in your car, on your boat, in the park, or on the golf course if you can guarantee you won't get within six feet of someone outside your immediate family. Other than that, do your part to keep it from being passed uncontrollably in the community.
2:41 PM, I will have to agree.
The virus is just not that much of a risk.
Glad you are able to see it.
@1:57 If a face mask causes that much distress you should stay out of a car and stay at home. You are threatening the life of others you hypocrite.
2:28, "they" don't need to hire people to do that. If you're under the age of 40, you're parents will look in on while you're sleeping.
a friend observed that probably 100% of the “ah cain’t BREATHE w mah MASK” goobers also think police chokeholds are no big deal
hope there’s room in the hospital for car crash victims, strokes, and heart attacks. it would suck to need an er and be turned away. not all of us live close to jackson and have to rely on the smaller rural hospitals..
If you think wearing a mask is uncomfortable, try wearing a respirator for awhile.
3:24, you’re not alone, it just feels that way in a state full of geniuses like Mississippi.
After reading these comments it is all too apparent why we are suing a resurgence. Many Mississippians are just too low on the IQ totem pole to comprehend science.
3:24 asked, "Does that position make any sense to anyone else..."
Of course it makes sense. To everyone with the slightest bit of sense. Hence, the spike in cases.
Here's a thought: the lives that matter belong to those who want to live in a civilized, considerate, just and rational society, be the person black, white, brown or green. For those who actively refuse to act like a reasonable member of society, your life does not matter to those who choose to live in a respectful, considerate and rational society because you have demonstrated that no one else matters to you. If you want respect, you get it by showing it to others and earning it. Skin color doesn't even enter the equation in giving or getting respect from decent people because they are decent people.
