Mississippi will be getting a new flag. Y'all Politics reported:
Following the passage of HCR 79 by the Mississippi House of Representatives on Saturday, the Senate voted the same bill out of that chamber, reaching the two-thirds requirement to do so by a vote of 36 to 14. The historic resolution allows for the decommissioning of the Mississippi flag which features the Confederate battle emblem and establishes the process by which a new state flag would be chosen.Governor Tate Reeves said he will sign a "flag bill" it if arrives at his desk.
The House, which authored the initial resolution, voted earlier 85-34, to do the same. Rest of article.

KF can you list the actual people who vote for/against HCR 79. Thanks in advance.
Also list the people who vote for/against in the house.
Very exciting that this may finally be done with. One less embarrassment for all of us as a state. I do wish they would choose a different design, the state seal is just not a good looking flag, but who really cares as long as it’s done.
It won't change the world and it won't solve all Mississippi's problems, not by a long shot. But it damn sure makes us a little better place.
Now we should get a symbol we don't have to fight over.
Hey Gunn how much did you make on this manuver? Just want to know what your price for selling out the citizens was, anybody that watches you in action knows you are nothing but a whore for money. Your 'fine Christian man and leader' persona is the biggest joke in politics. How many conference chairs did you promise? And how many will you pull of those real men who still have balls to do the right thing? Just wait and you will see I am right- ashamed to say this farce of Amanda is my rep
Kylin Hill wins.
People always talk about supertalk Radio being right wing but they've been trying to get the flag removed for years. They were all aboard the last two weeks even getting their sports people to demonize the flag. Remember that liberals.
Speaker Gunn has been on record for some time in support of changing the flag. Not sure why the resentment of some as it is simply the right thing to do. Others came around to Gunn’s position and rightly so. We all hate having our hand forced by outsiders and that wouldn’t have been necessary had we done this a long time ago. But regardless this is progress for Mississippi.
Looks like it won't be the Stennis flag, at least not the current version.
So all of our problems are solved now, nothing else to worry about
Was WAPT correct in its statement that there will be a vote on a new design in November?
Lol conservatives think that the liberals will like them now. How naive.
I'm really glad that the flag issue is resolved now. This will finally put to rest all the racial problems we have in Mississippi....Rejoice everybody
Next step. Remove all confederate statues.
No sports in Mississippi until this happens.
Do it now while we are on a roll.
Is anyone else nauseated by the self congratulatory pretentious BS they’re spewing all over social media? You would think they just cured cancer. This will accomplish nothing.
By the way, the Democrats will never give the republicans credit for this.
Tate since Gunn and Delbert have done a couple of end arounds on you making you look foolish and lost- veto this and MAKE them override it- some of the sheep that Gunn forced to vote for it may be having second thoughts- it probably won't change but it would make several folks SWEAT...btw I agree with 7:54 HOW MUCh did you make on this... did you and Bomgar burn one over this?
And just like that. With the drop of a gavel. The nightly slaughter in Jackson ended. The streets of Jackson became safe for everyone. And the JPS graduation rate spiked to 99%
What's next? Take down all civil war statues? Burn down the iron clad ship? Drain the Ross Barnett Reservoir? Change the racist American flag? BTW, I heard black lives matter wants input on the new flag design. McDaniels was right. Good luck with the can of worms you just opened.
Delbert can't wait 8 years. He's already dusted off Thad's 2014 playbook.
"Lol conservatives think that the liberals will like them now. How naive. "
And that, my friends, is the bottom line.
Yeah here comes the industry. I look for Amazon to relocate tomorrow to Mississippi. It was always kind of funny to me that we had to take the players at their word that they were not protesting the american Flag when they took a knee but when someone would say the Mississippi flag doesn't mean racism to us, we couldn't do that. We have to trust what is in the heart of football player but Mississippians were lying. Speaking of Protesting The American Flag now that the US Has basically rolled over to every demand of BLM and neutered the police is there really any reason for the players to take a knee. Should be more like a victory lap at this point
Okay whats next Ole Miss Rebels, The cowbells ( I heard that at one time the slaves were called in to eat by cowbells) How can that say. Gator Bait gone. Eyes of Texas whats up next. Reparations.
10:13, you are spot on.
The left HATES all those Republicans that got that accomplished. They despise and hate every one of them. But idiots like Gunn, Reeves and Harkins all think this will resolve everything.
No.
This is just the beginning.
Next?
Remove all statues. Bail reform. Hire all felons. More affirmative action. Renaming of cities and streets. Reparations. Land.
Think I’m kidding? Just wait.
Antar says it's just the start.
Names, statues, and more?
CARES act money talked
Committee comes up w/ design by Sep
Goes on Nov ballot
Must have IGWT and must not have battle flag.
Im sure Lauren is burnin' the midnight oil, hurredly scribblin' out new conforming designs.
Vote no to the new rag.
Look for a referendum!
the night they drove ole dixie down
I know plenty of conservative voters in favor of a new flag including myself. This flag wasn't even the state flag until 1894. Stop claiming the term history. Nothing historic about this state flag.
Oh, no! Now that we've removed a government endorsed symbol of hate and oppression, "these people" are going to keep demanding that we actually stop with the hate and oppression! The absolute horror.
Get over yourselves.

Digburt, Tail-Gunner and Sweet-Tater...Here they come to save the day.
Mighty Meeces on they way!
The Rs in the Senate actually believe that if they keep feeding the alligators they will be the last to be eaten.
A few thoughts: Now that this distraction from the "REAL ISSUES" is over whats next? Arguing over what the new flag will be? For the sports nuts: What will the NCAA, SEC & C-USA blackmail us over next time? MS not supporting illegals the right to vote? not approving mail in voting? Will there every be any issue that they cram down your throat that is more important than hosting a regional? Or make you say "go to hell - I'm not supporting or watching you anymore"? I doubt it.
The ‘Christian Confederate Heritage’ that is worn like a badge of honor is draped in the blood of others. In order to feel superior human beings were stolen from their native lands, beaten, raped (men, women and children) and murdered. The confederacy fought and lost to continue to be lazy and have slaves and sharecroppers work the land. Don’t worry people still know how proud you are to be from thieves, rapist and murderous anti-government ‘christian’ people.
If you are in any way, shape of form associated with a business...changing this flag makes sense. If you are familiar with Matt. 5:21-26, changing the flag is well-overdue. This "historical value" malarky is old, tired and near comical in value. Mississippi should be jumping at high speed to demonstrate understanding and love for all because we're nearly half-and-half now in racial content. This is an opportunity to lead in love...not necessarily from government, but from the goodwill of our people.
The NCAA won’t bother us any more because the flag was the only thing that set us apart. They won’t go after monuments because that would mean they have to go after Atlanta and Nashville, and that ain’t happening.
Dream on 9:55AM. This has only just begun. There will be many more cancel culture & PC issues that will be coming up that "sports" will adhere too & blackmail any states or schools that don't get on aboard.
The RIGHT thing to do.
No, The intolerant LEFT thing to do.
The backwards nuts will always portray any step in the right direction as the start of utter destruction. They feel threatened by even a positive change. Let's stand still. Stop all movement. They always ask, When will it end? Here's the answer: It Never Ends. You must learn how to deal with movements for change and make them work in your best interest. Change will come. Those who prosper learn to direct the change. Those who only know how to resist change will be washed away. This is a positive change for Mississippi. Why fear the future?
This seems like a great idea. Take down one flag that some people do not like and replace it with a flag that some people will not like.
Putting in god we trust on a flag is just asking for problems.
What about all of the people who do not believe in god?
Will we have to resort to looting and burning to get the new flag removed?
Best Thread.

Why aren't you in bed sleeping?
Son of Confederates will have to take the rebel & state flag off there tag or risk getting their car keyed.
Now lets see if the Our State Flag Foundation, Mississippians for Keeping the Flag of 1894, Keep The Flag Use Your Vote and the Mississppi Sons of Confederate Veterans can petition the current flag to the ballot in November.
That is something to ponder, isn't it?
In fact, McDaniel brought up that idea a couple of days ago on Facebook. Will they try to place the current flag on the ballot? If they succeed in doing so, we haven't seen anything yet.
McDaniel might try to use this as his comeback.
I love to be talked down to and told how I'm this that or the other, by people that don't know me, for that matter haven't even met me. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling that their tolerance will make a way for a conciliatory gesture to find common ground for agreement. That the liberal position is far superior to any other uneducated uncouth position and that their tolerant left position will allow opposing views to be expressed with patience. All the while converting the ignorant and unlearned to their point of view through well-reasoned arguments and sound logic. At least that would be the case if they had confidence in their position, but they don't. So you have the tolerant left name-calling, slandering, demeaning, doing all within their means to silence their opposition. That's real tolerance.
"What about all of the people who do not believe in god?" (sic)
That's covered in the Bible. You should read it.
7:54- Give it a rest. Gunn knows what you obviously do not. The flag was on it's way out anyway. Fighting it just makes you look stupid. So he wisely took the lead and got it done.
While the flag won't solve all the problems it's a start.
Please not “In God We Trust”. That just spells disaster in a society where less and less people believe in god. Also aesthetically a bad choice. Flags should be easily be identifiable from far away. Think Texas flag. That flag is so good, it’s advertisement for Texas! The Stennis flag would fit the bill. If you don’t like the Stennis flag, good, design another one. But please no text or seals for which you need glasses!
I don’t think the current flag would qualify under HCR 479 since it doesn’t have IGWT on it and has the confederate battle flag. Moreover, I don’t think the populace is allowed to vote on which flags will he put up to a vote: the resolution states a commission will make that decision.
Am I missing something?
"While the flag won't solve all the problems it's a start." Yeah, because it never ends.
@10:36 PM - Try to keep up. Amazon has been building a new distribution center up north for months.
Once again, the silent working majority is forced to accept what the rioting looting minority forces upon us. Our legislators fear what will happen to them if they do not bow down to to this minority. When did fear become more important than integrity?
1:35 PM you must be on Gunn payroll or got paid off.
KF, you want your blog to be successful, you might want to expand its focus beyond what old, scared white folks want to read. The comments in this thread reveal the limitation of your reach.
2:04, Hear! Hear!
For the first time in a very long time, I am proud of my home state.
Just don't let the Neo-Confederates mess this up.
"We should vote to change the flag and if we do we should include voting to do away with all black colleges in Mississippi if we are all equal then we don’t need them, they are a reminder of racism in Mississippi. So why have them. So send the money back to the major Universities and have cheaper funding for all."
Bill @ 9:55, are you serious? Surely you can’t be that naïve. This is just that start.
Monuments are next, then you will be fired and lose your job for being the wrong color or thinking the “wrong” way.
The Mob is just getting started.
2:04 "The rioting looting minority". The Mississippi Economic Council, the NCAA, the Institutions of Higher Learning, Wal-Mart, the Southeastern Conference, the Southern Baptists, etc. What a bunch of riotous looters!
And when did that flag represent "integrity"?
4:23 There are no black state supported universities in Mississippi. The HISTORICALLY black state supported schools never practiced segregation unlike the historically white universities which did. They have been and still are open to anyone of any race who chooses to attend. If that is your reason to close certain institutions you should rethink. If anything is a reminder of racism you might look elsewhere. Hotty Toddy?
The Confederate monument in front of the Lowndes county courthouse has been forced to relocate to Friendship Cemetery. ZThe DA Scot Colom
5:21, I guess the flag had “integrity” when Ole Miss, JSU, USM, MVSU and all the others wanted John Q Public’s tax dollars.
Love the crocodile tears that are flowing at the state Capital today. Just wait a week and those same politicians will be coming for more.
Time to pay up!
If you don't like the NEW flag you can LEAVE
Wonder what drove Tot Reeves to commit political suicide?
DA Scot Colom is leading efforts to remove the Confederate statue away from the Lowndes county courthouse and to force the removal of the Board of Supervisors president, Harry Sanders. If Sanders refuses, Colom has threatened to bring in outside protestors. Friendship Cemetery is listed on the National Historic Register and there has never been a threat of vandalizing from the local populace. But if Colom brings in outside groups, Friendship Cemetery is in for a sacking. The cemetery is located in area that would be easy pickings for vandals
IMO Colom is intent on radicalizing groups through his ISSUES "front" that is telecast on sunday nights via WCBI TV. Colom denies of even knowing who George Soros is, but the front that Soros funds donated monies to his(Colom) election that unseated Forrest Allgood...a very unpopular District Attorney of the 16th Judicial District.
YOU Need to visit the Black Prairie and see the German Mennonites making it bloom again with King Cotton.
Hey 1:35 are you one of Herr Gunn and his shits you lapdog little Rep White minions or did you get paid. Gunn won't do anything without getting paid....Follow the money
"Less and less people believe in God" is a very true statement. You can see that clearly by the comments on this board. The fear of death by the unbeliever permeates the very air. The true believer has no fear of death but sees death as it truly is, simply a doorway to another realm.
6:53 COVID-19 du jour
Requiring In God We Trust on the flag will definitely invite a legal fight as government endorsing Christianity.
It is absolutely embarrassing that I share a state with anyone willing to defend the former Mississippi state flag containing the confederate battle flag. How can anyone in his or her right mind argue that that flag is not demeaning to a large percentage of our population? And how can anyone — especially my fellow conservatives and/or Christians — be OK with that? The truth is that anyone who is upset that the flag is changing is racist, plain and simple. The argument that it's about history and/or heritage falls flat too. You think that argument shields you from the truth of your racist views, but it certainly does not. Germany has a history and heritage that include the Nazi flag. Does that mean it should be used to represent Germany now? By the way, if you answer "yes," you show your true colors just as you do by defending the rag we deservedly are shelving in Mississippi.
7:37 – No more so than it being our national motto or being printed on our currency. While I personally believe that we should not have "In God We Trust" on a flag meant to represent all Mississippians, this is a settled matter of law.
I love how the brainiacs in our legislature decided to force the change of a flag issue, while ignoring the one decent designed flag that people actually would have supported, all to hide behind God, hoping slapping that motto on the flag will give them cover with the Baptists.
The Stennis / Hospitality flag was fine. I’ll be voting no on whatever this committee comes up with now.
5:51 Thank you for setting the record straight.
Well, lets just see how many dead Dim-O-Krats this reduces in Jackson?????
The capitol city of MS name should be changed also. Andrew Jackson...
https://www.britannica.com/place/Jackson-Mississippi
Nothing is off the table.
Vicksburg National Military Park should remove all confederate monuments.
Beauvoir should be razed.
https://www.visitbeauvoir.org
Yes, it is past the time for a flag change, and our current banner should be in museums; however, caving to pressure is a mistake. Should have changed our MS flag a year or two ago, but now is opening the door to a never ending assault on history, and one wonders if our current flag will be "allowed" in a museum.
Food for thought: will MLK and the entire Jim Crow 100yrs of progress be removed from museums and history also? After all, without the oppressive side, the other would not exist. History is history. We have come a ways with a long way go. May we all get there in peace and together, united.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9etoocgcWm8
Hoping Dave Chappelle and Daniel Tosh will get together, do an excellent comedy tour and irritate everyone- no political view or ideology, simply pissing off everybody.
9:54: Me, too.
"There are no black state supported universities in Mississippi. The HISTORICALLY black state supported schools never practiced segregation unlike the historically white universities which did. They have been and still are open to anyone of any race who chooses to attend." June 28, 2020 at 5:51 PM
Oh really? Is that why the courts ruled that Mississippi HBCUs were in violation of Ayers for trying an end-around by importing 'light skinned' students from other countries and MUST, according to Ayers, ramp up recruiting of White Americans?
PS: To the clown who suggested 'In God We Trust' amounts to state sanctioned Christianity...do you really not know that non-Christians also believe in God?
9:34, have you seen the latest attacks on Stennis? Leftists want to take his name off of the aircraft carrier and space center, I'm fine with that as long as they take down the statues of Robert Byrd and rename everything with his name on it.
All these spineless legislators will be remembered come election time. Because it won't stop here, this has just emboldened the cancel crowd to come after flags being flown on public properties. They will go after the historical re-enactments next, claiming they are racist too.
YAY! Racism is over in Mississippi....right?
And everyone lived happily ever after.
What’s next the man highway patrol uniform looks like a confederate uniform, there’s a Robert e Lee building, what about changing martin Luther king st, medgar Wiley Evers airport it’s only fair to change all of it so nobody is offended
I don’t like other state flags that’s y I don’t live there. There r 49 other stated to choose from here if u don’t like it. What if u r offended by MLK blvd r medgar Evers airport can we change those?
Point of Inquiry: If we "cancel" everyone that ever did anything that ever offended anyone (like we all have at one point) - how will politicians reward one another and stroke one another's ego?
I guess there will be no more "Joe Schmuckadelly Post Office" or "Jimmy Baggadonothing Federal Building," oh well...
Ding dong the witch is dead.
Hello 12:49 a.m. Please allow me to tell you that Beauvoir is privately owned and is on private property. You posted a link but obviously didn't read or comprehend it.
While hurricanes periodically remove this piece of history, neither the state nor the municipality has that authority and certainly the feds don't.
79 comments. This does not even come close to the number of posts when the lady tennis trainer in NE Jackson was in the news. Seems like the flag people are just a small number of loud people.
It is over!! Herr Gunn has spoken- don't y'all know nobody questions him or his decisions-he is ALL knowing
I like a flag with State Seal. It is similiar to the POTUS Flag which is on a Blue Background. I favor a white Background. With a Red vertical stripe on Left and a Blue vertical stripe on Right. The Iowa flag has 3 verical stripes blue white red. With an emblem in the middle.
$20.00 bill will be next
How about we just go ahead and adopt a nice simple flag... one with a single solid field of pure white.
This easily recognizable banner would show to all our willingness to surrender to outside threats, yet leave a virtual blank slate on which any slogan or symbol could be added as the current situation might warrant.
For instance, the "State Leaders" might at a time like this chose to add "FOR SALE" in simple block letters, showing clearly our willingness to sell out under threat of withholding outside funds, or be bought by anyone promising some good ol' cash.
You all are in fine form on this one... LOL
Why do so many feel so threatened by the change of the flag? Your Repbulican good ol' boys will protect you from things that are really going to affect you, unless you are the destitute or working poor of this state.
No one is taking away your right to sing Dixie. No one is taking away your right to fly whatever flag you want on your private property. As a matter of fact, I think you should request a new license plate with the 1894 flag, so that you keep it as a reminder of your history.
In the end, it's all going to be ok.
9:45 is on to something.
@9:45
Those "State Leaders" know that this is a welfare state, and they didn't want to interrupt the welfare. So they caved to keep the money coming in for their highest receiving welfare recipients.
As I was told by a Niktar resident in 2001 after the flag vote, "if you don't like the state flag that much, there are 49 other states for you to move to."
So if you don't like the change, follow his advice.
Mississippi. The last house on the block still using an outhouse and a Number 5 washtub. Meaningful change is good.
@10:20
Big difference is that in 2001 the people voted and their voice was not denied. What has happened is nothing short of pure tyranny. It is criminal and unconstitutional. Absolute traitors.
The Legislature passed a confusing bill. What "Sky God" are we to trust?
10:30-
Unironically the outhouse and #5 washtub are the greenest and most environmentally conscious methods you could use.
Sort of like how our schools used to function and our streets used to be safe. Things were better in the old days. Don't care about your feelings anymore.
10:14 - no you really can't fly whatever flag you want on your personal property - some fool will trespass on your property to steal or destroy it, or will take a picture, dox you and get you fired. And if it's on your car in the form of a sticker or license plate, you can almost guarantee your car will be keyed in certain parts of town.
Remember the story about the guy whose wife liked a photo/post on Facebook and HE got fired? Unfuckingbelievable.
10:45- I choose the Great Spirit. The one native to this continent.
I don't believe in God. But I do believe in your right to believe in God, Jesus or whomever. And I'll stand beside you and fight for that and any other rights. What I don't agree with is the vitriol I see on here for those who believe differently from you. I also don't agree that the state flag should mention God. Why? What's the point of that? Why not reach a compromise. Magnolia? State Seal? Why God? You can fly a flag with the confederate battle flag emblem at your house. You can fly a flag that says I love Jesus. Why does it have to be part of the flag for a governmental entity? And don't respond "because it's on our money". That's not the issue for Mississippi. We don't print money.
Just find it sadly, yet somewhat hilariously, ironic that the old flag must be taken down because it represents slavery and oppression... so, we cave and jump to appease outside interest so maybe they'll send us some money.
Anyone else feel like we just got sold out, like a bunch of modern day slaves to the whims of others?
For all the folks who said it was not a big deal and people should focus on other things not the flag there sure are some “good ole boys” who have their panties in a wad!
Gunn reminds more and more of his position mate Pelosi- he and his lapdog white are just as crooked and underhanded. I just wonder how much he cleared on this after he pressured Scoggins and the others.
@12:33
We "Willie Morris" Blood and Soil Mississippians are a dying breed..replaced by rootless transits just passing through life like the wandering Jews of the Bible. I wonder how many of the "non-Racists" trashing the flag and posting here have a relative that died at the hands of the Union army and where he is buried.
My great-great grandfather died of typhoid fever during Sherman's siege and is buried at Soldiers Field in Atlanta. My mother Avarilla is named for the daughter he never saw.
So, I can see how those who have no blood or soil involved feel the way they do.
I have hired a seamstress to construct a "Raphael Semmes" flag with the original dimensions of that which flew from the mast of the CSS Alabama. Wool bunting materials were salvaged from a giant French Tri-Color bought at the Memphis Army Depot which shut down in the 1990s. Coincidentally, before the sounds of Dixie, the early Southern militias marched and drilled to the sounds of the French Marseilles.
Good for you 7:42! I’m a first generation Italian immigrant (the legal way) and really don’t understand all this turmoil over a few statues and a flag. Put them in a museum - and didn’t the south fight to keep its slaves, that in itself is an awful thing to admire.
Homer Stokes for Governor 2023! We need someone who will listen to the people and not the special interest. Sweep this state clean!
Love the Italians including il Duce
...knew many in Tripoli and Addis Ababa while stationed with the 64th Engineerimg Topo. Spent many evenings sitting in those sidewalk cafes wat ching the Italian girls promenade up and down 26 Diecembre Strata before attending Mass at the chiesa. In the park by the bay there was a giant sculptor of Romulus and Remus who I only heard about in my high school Latin Class. The mission there was compiling data for map making. At the time I thought all the barbwire that we encountered in the desert was from the tank battles betwee Montgomery and Rommel. Did not until later that they were concentration camps for the Arabs who were revolting against the Italians led by Omar Maktur who was later hanged in public. The Ialian generals posed for photos with Maktur on the scaffold minutes before the footboard was sprung.
Great movie of Maktur's life and death:The Lion of the Desert. Military convoyed under the Marble Arch at Marsa Brega many times.
One question: When did ghardino(garden) come to be spelled jardino?
Ciao.
BTW the Italo Balbo monument in Chicago survived the Charlots ille rage for now.
You still have your Italo Balbo, we still have our Theodore Bilbo... whereabouts unknown?
