When gaming first came to the Coast, I was down there all the time on business. Room prices went up 30 to 50 percent and several of the restaurants did the same. One restaurant owner told me, he felt like the flock of tourists coming in would pay the higher prices and the locals could go to Mickey D's. A year later he closed his doors. Now the coast is undergoing a restaurant boom and somehow quality has won out over quantity. Sure do miss the smoked prime rib at Maxwell's.
A pair of shoes for $3.30? I know it was 85 years ago at Montgomery Ward's, but holy hell!
Three pairs of shoes for $10...wow.
Love the proofreading at the CL. The last page is titled "Restuarants" (SIC)
Just really sad that no one has even commented on Warren Wright, Sr. He was a really fine man, ran a great business, and was involved in the community, his church, and the Gideons. He died almost four years ago now. Here is his obituary.
