James Tulp: Trump Shouldn't Build the Wall Because of...Climate Change?

It is becoming increasingly likely that Trump will have to declare a national emergency and use the military to build the wall. Some Republicans don't like that.

Here's why they're wrong.

First of all, conservatives need to understand that if this president doesn’t build the wall now, during this shutdown, it will never happen. This is our only shot at securing the border. No other Republican would have even lasted this long in holding out for it.

The pressure is simply too great from both sides.

Don’t forget, there are a lot of Republicans who don’t want the border secured because they benefit from the cheap labor that pours across. Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, the Koch brothers- all of them think Americans benefit from ALL immigration, including illegal. This represents the old guard, country club wing of the GOP that was rejected in 2008, 2012, and in the 2016 primary.

Point being, the president is getting hit from both sides on this but he’s willing to take it because he knows this is what’s right for the American people.

The bottom line is this needs to happen now. Otherwise, our representatives- Republican or Democrat- will continue to kick the can down the road and never solve the issue. This is why our border is still not secured after nearly half a century of trying.

Now the main objection from the right to Trump declaring an emergency and building the wall is that it will establish a dangerous precedent that will lead to a Democrat president declaring a national emergency on climate change. First, understand the history behind the law that allows presidents to declare national emergencies, the National Emergencies Act of 1976. The reason it was passed was to restrict presidential emergency declarations. It included a provision that allows Congress to essentially veto any presidential emergency declaration with a simple majority in both chambers.

What does this mean? It means that a hypothetical Democrat national emergency declaration on climate change would need the support of at least a majority in both chambers of Congress.

This is unlikely.

Just 45% of Americans think climate change will affect them in their lifetime. Only 2% of Americans think it is the most important issue facing our country.

The concerns from the right surrounding the emergency declaration to build the wall are way overblown. Mr. President, build the wall. It is a humanitarian crisis and a matter of national security. The Constitution, the American people, and common sense are behind you.

If a wall is good enough for the State of Israel then it is good enough for US.
Yeah our wall will need to be a few thousand miles longer.

I was very interested to hear the DHS Border Patrol Commander for Rio Grand region basically confirm that illegals from as far away as Pakistan are intercepted daily, and that they caught two the day before.

Could it be that the left is lying themselves when they call the President a liar? One thing is going to have to happen at the same time as the wall and that is raid the poultry and meat processing plants in Mississippi that employ illegals. Probably going to have to raid a lot more restaurants around Jackson as well.

Let's get this straight
1. There is no national emergency, it was a campaign promise see his Tweet about 10AM he says as much.
2.there will never be funding for a Wall, fencing is part of the current plan and it will continue to be utilized where it makes sense.
3.There was a bipartisan agreement to fund the government approved by Trump, when Ann Coulter and Rush called him out and he caved.
4. overwhelmingly the majority of people want the government opened and for border security measures to be negotiated later.

Well the Dems have insanely tried to inject their two main "broken record" issues into this now.....race and climate change. Neither of which REMOTELY has a damn thing to do with it. Their "base" is so naive and gullible it would be funny if there wasn't so many of these morons.

How long will the wall be? How high will it be? Will it encompass all the exposed Southern border? We've got a price, but what about those answers.
I suppose it doesn't matter. Just build a wall. Since it's called a wall we should assume that no one can get past it. Stop asking so many questions. Mr. Trump says it will be the greatest wall of all time and if you can't trust Mr. Trump who can you trust? We've got a problem and the wall is the answer. If it's not the answer, Mr. Trump will give us another answer and it will be the greatest answer of all time and it you can't trust Mr. Trump...

The wall SHOULD be built by the military, 'cause they tend to overbuild anything. And there should be 2 walls where there is a void between the walls filled with lions and tigers and bears....oh my.

When he said Mexico was going to pay for it, most people for and against it, believed him. Now he says he never ment that they would write a check. It's sad to see what's happening to the party.

Great article.

Short and to the point.

This country is being poisoned by foreigners and misfits that hate us and our system. See the recent Palestinian from Michigan elected to Congress that called Trump a Mother Fucker for reference. Yes, this is the result of decades of welcoming too many
shiteaters into the US.

Build the wall and enforce the law.

@1:32

Trump is doing the best he can with what he has to work with. The Dems are completely irrational in their hatred of this country and the Repubs, with a few exceptions, are very much like the Lion on the Wizard of Oz...cowards. But while you're here please tell us your objection to securing our southern border.

Here’s the problem. Congress is the one who passes laws to do things like this. That’s what the Constitution says. Congress, more specifically the House, doesn’t want to do the Wall thing. They think it’s a stupid politically-driven idea. Maybe they’re wrong, maybe they’re right. But that’s the way it’s supposed work. But, hey, screw the stupid Constitution. We got Donnie boy to tell us how things ought to be and he knows more tthan anybody about anything!

Trump started talking about a crisis at the Southern border and the need for a wall when he was a candidate. If there were a crisis - and there is not - why didn’t Trump and the Republican controlled Congress address it in 2017 or 2018. The crisis is another Trump lie. He may not be an MF, but he is narcissistic liar of the highest order.

The only people not seeing a crisis at our southern borders are those not wanting to see a crisis.

Trump is running out of people to tell him he doesn't know jack. He helped build his base with the Build the Wall refrain, but always accompanied by Mexico Will Pay for It. Would the base be so emotional about this if he had said "Who needs money for infrastructure or healthcare? We can use it to build the wall"?

If ever there was a need for an agonizing reappraisal, now is the time. Congress on both sides is hiding from responsibility. (Schumer, McConnell, Pelosi on down, including the so=called "political leaders in Congress" from Mississippi) Trump's administration is well along into total dissipation. Who will emerge? No signs yet. Meantime, our media give us circuses with blissed out adolescents like Ocasio-Cortez in the center ring. Ai yi yi!

It's on Congress. They all know, on both sides, that Trump is sick with self-adulation exacerbated by some old fear of being called out for his lack of genuine achievements as well as the intelligence needed to make a genuine achievement. "Ladies and Gentlemen, who will bell the cat?" Crickets.

Ok, I don't feel better. If you've gotten this far, 1:43, please look up the Fallacy of Sampling.

Have any of you border experts actually been to the border? I hate to keep repeating my posts, but my wife was a Border Patrol Agent and we've lived in several border communities - it is, and has been a crisis for the last 20 years. Cartels and corrupt Mexican officials control the border, and the US just tries to keep up with the trafficking of illicit goods and people that flow across - this is aggravated by democrats who continue to add magnets like free healthcare and sanctuary from the criminal justice system. A physical barrier accompanied by technological solutions is an absolute necessity to deny, delay and deter illegal entry into the United States.

I'm happy to have a debate on the issue based on logic and facts, but ad hominem attacks just expose the weakness of your argument...

I certainly think we need a stronger southern border, whether we call it a wall or a fence or a Vulcan mind meld. It's silly for anyone to suggest that a physical barrier doesn't work. Of course it does, and there are walls along borders all over the world that prove that.

I question whether Trump has the authority to use a military emergency as an excuse to move Department of Defense money to fund the wall construction. I think a move like this would be immediately challenged, and I think the Supreme Court would side with the plaintiff. We may have a crisis at the border, but it's not a military emergency and shouldn't be treated like one.

Anonymous said...

this is how the deal gonna go down people. trump will declare a national emergency and order the military to begin construction. the dems will file suit to stop the construction. a federal district court may or may not stop the construction, but if a district court does halt the construction , the issue will then go to a federal appeals court. regardless of what a federal district court or a federal appeals court does , its going to end up in the united states supreme court. and that court is going to allow the construction.

There reference to Kool-aid applies only to media leftists and socialist millennials attempting to destroy this country, not to those attempting to protect our national sovereignty.

If we don't get a wall then we should get a DMZ style minefield. It worked for Guantanamo Bay Naval Base very well. The US mined one side of the fence, Cuba mined the other.

I know that a minefield has been discussed and it is unfortunate that the cartel smugglers and coyote traffickers will likely still send people through the minefield simply to clear a path through it.

The left is attempting to appeal to emotion instead of logic. Making emotional appeals works well on female voters as well as soy infused male feminists who would compare our national sovereignty to Hogwarts or some other childish nonsense.

The wife's uncle was manager of aTm's ranch in south TX, on our side of the border. 20 years ago, he started carrying a rifle and a sidearm. He said earlier than that, when they saw you, they would run and hide, then they got to the point where they would confront you openly, until he armed himself. He says they will steal anything not bolted down to a foundation set deep into the ground.

Build the fence and hope it is strong enough that they don't steal it.

The obsession to build monuments to honor themselves is common among politicians and their emotionally charged supporters. Why build a school house when a campus is so impressive? And why repair and fill in gaps in current fencing when a few cuts in Social Security and Medicare can fund a GRAND WALL. Maybe a HUGE gold leaf coated "T" every few miles would be needed to keep our current white house resident and his supporters quiet. But Mr Trump's ego is well above average even for a Washington politician. BTW, I wonder how tall the Washington Monument is and how much taller Mr Trump proposes his to be.

the wacked- out punk ass libtards and the old hippies on this thread know about as much american history as i know about the back side of the moon. trump is commander-in -chief. for the un- informed that means he is in charge of the us military. since WWII , presidents have committed the us military to wars in korea, vietnam, grenada, kuwait, somalia, serbia, iraq, and afghanistan, all without declaration of war from the congress . im sure there is a few i left out. regardless, ask your self , what did the congress and the courts do about all those wars and interventions i just listed? ......nothing! if presidents can commit the military to a fire fight on the other side of the world, trump will have no problem ordering the US army corps of engineers to build a wall right here in this country. the US army corps of engineers is part of the military. thats why its called the ARMY corps of engineers. like him or not at least he gonna do what he promised in his campaign. and the schumer's, the pelosi's and that wacked out muslim in michigan can all go suck a big one.

Plus ca change. About sixty years ago, white conservatives in Mississippi thought they could build a wall around Ole Miss.

Anonymous said...

They/He had two years to secure all of the funding in advance for that wall. Two years controlling most of 3 branches of government. They came up with a deal that had significant funds (25 billion from what I understand) and he/they/ killed it because it had deal for children who were born here. Instead their real priority was stacking the courts.

Crisis or not, don’t ever ever ever call yourself a constitutional conservative as you sit back and root on his version of the reichstag fire.

At this point it’s not really about a wall anymore. It is both a distraction from some things (hires 17 lawyers to exert exec. privelage/ next day has other lawyers create a pretext for national emergency powers).

Go ahead and keep drinking the koolaid. Goebells would be proud.

1. All of the prototypes were easily breached in testing
2. Mexico gets the Rio Grande because we can't build the wall on Mexican soil
3. Some of the border is private property and their are 90 lawsuits already pending ( see 1).
4. This is an appropriations bill. Border security has received more than adequate funding to build walls where needed but chose not to spend the money that way. What happened to the billions of funding in past years?
5. There is no detailed plan for the wall or border security in this bill and never has been. What is needed is an overall reform bill that is then funded in appropriations. It should include revisions on how everything comes into this country , including on boats, ships and trucks.
6. Revenues are down, not up so this is adding to the deficit and debt.

Some of us wanted to first secure our borders on land ,sea and air after 9/11 before going to war. If we'd not gone to Iraq, we could have a secure, well-thought out wall deep enough to have sensors, roads and sufficient helicopters for it not to take agents 3+ hours to get to some part of the border, and boats to patrol the areas of water in both the northern and southern border.

But, apparently, we are an impatient people who'd rather feel safe than be safe.

He still hasn't said when the check from Mexico is going to arrive. That's the most crucial part of building anything, securing the funds. I'm sure Trump is hard at work and he is the best negotiator who ever lived, so I'm sure he can get them to pay for it like he promised so many times. He's also the best with technology this country has to offer so I'm sure he has something very advanced up his sleeves. I can't wait for it all to come to fruition, just like he has said all along. Mexico won't even know what hit them and then bam, Trump gets them to cut us a check for 14 Billion. Once that check arrives, let the construction begin and we will finally be GREAT AGAIN!!!!

The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all?
