Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
Last night, January 16, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a man being shot in a wooded area near the 600 block of White Road in the Florence area.
Several Rankin County Deputies responded to the scene along with Florence Fire Department and Pafford Ambulance Service. Once on scene, deputies met with the victim’s son who took them to his father who was located at the back of the property suffering from an obvious gunshot wound to the chest.
Florence Rescue and Pafford arrived on the scene and began treating the victim. Due to the severity of the wounds, Air Care was requested and did respond. Air Care transported the victim to the University Medical Center where despite the best efforts of medical personnel the victim died from his wounds. Rankin County Coroner David Ruth was contacted and responded to UMC to begin his investigation.
Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the shooting, several investigators from the sheriff’s office along with officers from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks responded to the scene and began a thorough investigation.
Based on the preliminary investigation and consultation with District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, an individual who was on the scene at the time of the shooting, Donald SNEAD, was placed under arrest for Manslaughter and transported to the Rankin County Jail.
Donald SNEAD will appear before District Attorney Bramlett and Judge Kent McDaniel for an Initial Appearance on the Manslaughter Charge.
This investigation is continuing by the sheriff’s office with the vital assistance of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and Rankin County Corner David Ruth.
Rankin County Coroner David Ruth will be releasing the name of the victim as soon as all family has been notified.
Sheriff Bailey would like to reassure the citizens of Rankin County, especially the residents of the White Road, area that everyone is safe and there is no random or unknown shooter on the loose.

12:26 - I for one call BS. And you are to blame for it.
Define unusual circumstances
Don't feed the trolls.
I agree with @1:10 PM
Florence is lost.
And knowing the Whites Road area, it's time to put your Double Wide up for sale and git out while the gittin's good.
The area has been invaded by criminal parasites drawing social security and shooting folk. It is completely lost.
Those damn Hinds County thugs screwing everything up for everybody, no matter where they go!
The only time Trump should be the topic of comments is if he's in town. This site is local and Trump Trolls are just baiting for replies. They are typically too timid to ever say something in person.
Of whom is that a photograph. i.e. Who the hell picture is dat?
Wow, write this down. A white man is arrested for homicide in Hinds County. Now that is newsworthy.
Can someone post what they are hearing are the circumstances surrounding this incident? It must have been an accidental shooting for Mr Snead to be only charged with manslaughter. Right? If so, why was it not reported as an accidental shooting? Why was MS Wildlife involved? Were they deer hunting at 9:30 at night? I know this guy. He's a good guy. Facts please.
@ 10:13 I think I do too but he looks disheveled in the pic. Does he work “at that place we are both thinking of so as not to bring heat on them” in Florence?
What’s the over/under that this guy receives a blessing?
