State Senator Sally Doty kicked off her campaign before a hometown crowd at the Brookhaven Military Memorial Museum yesterday. Senate Pro-Tem Terry Burton and State Representative Becky Currie introduced her. The video is posted below.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

There's a Brookhaven Military Memorial Museum?
Run Sally run. See Sally run. This Madison County man will be voting for her.
Time for Mississippi to send a woman to Congress.
Go girl go!!!
Compare this to Michael Guest's turnout and the response to his announcement.
If the pendulum swings back towards the "establishment Republican", then she will be in luck. If nothing else, she definitely has that on her side.
Guest is the establishment candidate.
If you're trying to paint anyone other than Michael Guest as the candidate anointed by the establishment -- you haven't been paying attention!
I like Sally and wish her luck. But if the basis for her campaign is going to be "it's time for Mississippi to send a woman to Congress" she won't get my vote or support.
She is a competent and capable person, and lehislator. But if her only qualification for office is her genetic makeup, she has no business running. I have no objection to a woman representing me in Congress if she does a good job. But it will not be my basis for voting for her, and if it's her reason that I should she has no reason to get that vote.
Run Sally. Run on your qualifications. People can see the gender difference between you and the others.
I'm sure all of their messages will get better as they get into fighting shape.
Obvious that 9:38 didn't watch the video in its entirety.
Kingfish: Michael Guest's 'messages' have already plateaued so they can't get 'better'. There's really nothing else for him to say or for others to say about him except he's been a two-county prosecutor for several terms. There's zero else on his plate that might qualify him to represent me in congress.
There are few counties to raise substantial money in this race. It takes about 40k to do one mail out. One has to have the people who give money lined up and Sally just doesn't have those people. The primary is in June and as a state Senator she is stuck at the legislature till end of March. So she can really only campaign weekends. Sally has a College Republican kid as her campaign manager. Think that answers a lot of questions. Most of the money will come from Madison, Rankin and Lauderdale, with Lauderdale being a distant 3rd. She has no support in those counties and they comprise 50% of the republican vote. Guest had over 100 people just at a meet and greet coffee in Ridgeland this past week. Almost everyone who donates money in the top 3 counties is committed to Guest. Let's look at the other players. Perry Parker, Covington County, hasn't done anything yet and made no calls I have heard of to anyone. Supposedly he can finance his own campaign. Whit Hughes, Madison County, has been calling people but so far everyone I know he has called or his people have called aren't interested or aren't much help if they are. They have mostly been calling around Madison County. Austin Barbour is his campaign guy. Morgan McNulty Dunn, Simpson County, is a non-factor. Michael Guest, Rankin County. He has Gov. Bryant team doing his campaign. Rankin County, the largest GOP county with 24% of the primary vote is solid behind him. That's Sheriff Bailey and all the other city and county elected officials. Tate is neutral so that doesn't help anyone so that benefits Guest. Madison County, 14% of the vote, is solid behind Guest. Those staying neutral, again help Guest. Lauderdale Co. 9% of the vote, has several GOP factions and they are with Guest. If you notice when Doty and Hughes made their announcements to run, all they had were immediate family present. Guest had over 300 at his with a wall of Law Enforcement present. Parker made no announcement and hasn't even put up any social media. Guest has a built in district wide network with Gregg Harper support. His local chief of staff and Harper daughter, who did his fundraising, is working for Guest now. That's it in a nutshell.
There will be a runoff despite all the water you are carrying 10:41.
1041, nice work campaign director. You earned your salary for a Sunday. Too bad your rose colored (or Rankin tinted) glasses lead you to believe the world revolves around Rankin and that it votes as a block. There is a whole lot of other parts of the district that realizes that the enormous gasses emitting from Rankin County does stink. Lots of money in this district, state and elsewhere that you failed to note. Check the CF reports and you will find most comes from Hinds, a little fact you failed to notice.
Guest probably does have the initial lead, but the race has just started. Recognize that for Guest it has been ongoing for an extra four weeks thanks to the backroom dealings going on in your vaunted county between a few self anointed power brokers and Harper, but that four week headstart diminishes as the marathon moves forward.
There is a second primary to face - and whether it's Hughes. Parker, or Doty in that runoff with your vaunted Guest, I'll place my money of 2nd to be 1st.
Oh yes I did watch the entire video. I saw Becky's intro comments and Sally's opening words. I heard of her small town values; that she knows what the national debt is; and that she recognizes the concept of proportional representation.
Yes she is a legislator - that can be argued either way as a plus or a minus - for her, obviously she needs to promote it. Hughes and Parker, OTOH, can promote the idea of being outsiders.
In addition to the video I have watched much else of this unfolding drama: the gamesmanship between Cindy Hyde, Lynn and Sally on 'who's going to be the woman candidate'. The sudden entry into the race of Dunn out of nowhere to change that dynamic. The focus on the W connection and activating those women (no different, geanted, than Hughes locking up the MSU vote) but focusing it on the women part of the W.
Like I said, I agree she has a lot to offer - didn't really hear it in this speech, but announcements arent designed to be major policy statements. And my comment wasn't due to this speech - it was an overall assessment of which way is she going to run - as someone who can and will accomplish something, or focus on the 'we need a woman' vote? We'll see.
10:59 you can always tell when ole Pete chimes in.
That's a good point 10.41 made about the money and ability to raise enough and Most people don't understand that a large majority of these counties is 5% of the GOP primary vote or less. None of these candidates has a network except Mike Guest. Not only does he have Congressman Harper's help but he knows or is known by all the DA's, Judges, Sheriffs/LEO's and most of the attorneys throughout the district. They in turn will be asked by the other GOP elected officials about who is running and who do you think they will say they are for? Does anyone even know how many sheriff's have been called by Bryan Bailey? Hint: all of them. He knows them all. Harper's people are calling everyone on their list, that's 10 years worth of contacts, donors, elected officials, centers of influence. Who do these other people have calling for them? It takes a lot of people helping and Guest has an army. The only person with a name recognition, in just one county, is Doty. So she is going to hit the ground running in April after legislative session? Guest is elected in Madison and Rankin. Who are the people helping Hughes in Madison? Who will help Doty in Madison? No one knows Parker. His business is in Hattiesburg and that's not in the district. And no one will help anyone but Guest in Rankin. Wanna look at east Hinds Co. All those attorneys will be for Mike. Their doctor friends will be for Mike. They have all heard of him.
I'm betting that selecting a woman as one voting criterion for choosing a new representative to Congress stays sizzling hot until June.
Meanwhile, Guest is efforting to avoid mentioning Trump, his agenda and draining the establishment swamp. Let's see how that works out.
11:09 You do know there is another candidate running who went to State, and his wife. That would be the lead dog, Mike Guest.
Is Heath Hall involved in the Guest campaign? Hall has been his PR guy in the past.
I have heard time and time again how some people and the news media so desperately want gender to be an issue when runnng for office and an advantage. I have yet to know anyone or even hear of anyone who later said they voted for someone on their gender. Just because you think it doesn't mean it will happen or ever has. And let's get to Ms. Dunn. She isn't going to have an effect on anyone's campaign, esp. Sally Doty. She had party pics on her FB page after she signed up. I would have said announced but she didn't even do that. She took them down a few days later.
Just because you think it doesn't mean it will happen or ever has.
Nor that it won't or hasn't already.
2:22 go ahead and send a news article explaining how someone has won on the gender vote. Or just one article, credible please, on how gender has influenced an election. There have been a lot of elections in this country. Surely you can find just one. We have all day miss priss. Your Public awaits
I think most of these people just woke up one day and said, HEY-I THINK I WILL RUN FOR CONGRESS!
Other than the fact that she has a skirt on - I didn't hear Doty say anything about her reason for running is to have a woman in the seat. She has legislative experience and I think that is a plus. But - did you know there are only 22 Republican women in the US House. Seems to me she might be more effective and get more attention than just another brooks brothers suit.
Has anyone seen this very young person Hunter Foster, who is Sen. Doty campaign guy. He looks like he still doesn't shave and is about 14 years old. His political experience is the College Republicans. His FB says he works at the Dicio Group. It has 4 members on its FB page. His photos consist of basically some of the nerdiest kids in college I have ever seen. This can not be Sally's campaign manager for Congress.
To think that there isn't a gender vote is refusing to accept reality. Certainly one exists, and sometimes can be enough to make the difference in winning or losing. HRC certainly ran on and received a strong gender based vote - her problem was that she thpught thst would be enough.
Other women have run but did not focus on their sex, or sexuality, but rather on their qualifications and abilities.
Doty will receive a respectable gender vote; but it may well backfire on her if she focuses on it.
In 2018, 84 women (19.3%) serve in the United States House of Representatives.
Happy Hunger Days & (u)May the Odds be ever in your favor! Go Dosty Katniss!(/u)
If the population is greater female than male, why is it there are only 22. That attention thing sure is working.
3:34, he's from down in that part of the state, and has worked on other campaigns before, most notably Longwitz when he spanked Billingsley. He'll do okay.
Sally has consultants and knows who to hire. Have you seen her announcement video? Do you think some kid just put that together on an iPhone video?
@4:15 if your trying to help the guy and Sally D. STOP! your making it worse. Ain't it time for the ChilDRENS to be in bed? LAWD MERCY this whole race has turned into amateur hour. Or what that comment said earlier that they just woke up one morning and said I'm running for congress. Gonna be a lot of hurt feelings come summer.
Amazing how similar all of you sound to the comments made on Y'all Politics the last time this seat was up for grabs.
She will have a hard time making the runoff which I think will likely be Perry Parker and Guest.
What's really funny is these people who post on FB thanking their "friends" for encouraging them to run but "it's not the right time", after much prayer of course. Some people need attention so bad they create something to get it. ME ME ME look at ME. we have way to many losers wanting to be in politics.
TO 11:28. Thanks for the shout-out, or at least I assume it was aimed at me. Sorry to disappoint, but there obviously is another well healed politico reading on this site. If I were to make such an astute observation, I would take credit for it and post it under my name, as I generally do when I comment here. So I cannot take credit but am not surprised to see someone commenting here with similar thoughts to what I have heard republicans in many other counties have been saying.
Besides, I assume that I am placed in the Guest camp since I am what was described as an establishment and active Republican. Are you suggesting that because I live in Hinds that I was not welcomed?
This stuff is fun to talk about but let's do some "figurin" as my grandad would say. Odds are Mike Guest won't get 50% in the primary but it's possible considering the field and his supporters and with his campaign team which is way above par. But let's say he don't. He will get 45% at the least because of Rankin and Madison Counties. If it goes to a run-off he will retain his original percentage and all he needs then is 5 more points. Of course he will do way better than that because of the support he has where he is an elected official. It will be a blow out in the general.
659, Google Liles Williams, 1981. 46% in first, 46.5% in runoff. Or, check the infamous David Landrum - had it all not just at the beginning but right up until the end. Better comparison, of course, is Charlie Ross - Rankin Countian, State Senator, County Chairman, all the money, all the organization that Rankin had to offer. Looked good, but failed. (How did that Rankin County machine, and the same exact 'campaign machine' do with that Rankin County vote when the powers that be went all in for Sen. Billy Hewes?)
They tell me that's why they have elections, just like that's why they play the game. Hell, Drew Bres thought he had the Vikings beat too, until --------the end.
Powell & Mounger backed Harper, even told Ross they were. I'd say that machine worked pretty well at the time.
Many of the big money people in the metro are behind Hughes - outside Rankin. He raised more than $100,000 in his first week in the race. Money isn’t the only factor, but it helps.
Long way to go.
KF, correct. But Harper wasn't in the running until Landrum screwed the pooch. And kept on. And kept on. Harper was running fourth two weeks out, but thanks to David "Livingston" Landrum (Jones, Madison, or maybe claimed to be Jackson voter) arrogance, Harper came out of nowhere. So, Mounger (who by the way is not Rankin as you know) and his buddy Powell did back Harper. Point still stands, those Rankin controllers won by default over Sir David. But you skipped the more relevant case - how did the Rankin all-in establishment supoort (with remember as noted earlier, all the same campaign management structure) for Hewes by those same Rankin, all most of the others, over Reeves. 60/40 Loss??
1981 Liles Williams? WTH. I do believe the demographics have changed an intsy-bintsy bit since then. And this isn't a Lamdrum- Harper race. This guy Guest has an current congressman backing him with all his people. A Gov. with his people, Governor is from the same county, Elected DA IN 2 Of the biggest GOP counties, the court house crowd in virtually all the republican strongholds and all his opponents have is jack squat. I would say Guest not only has the advantage, it's going to be a gigantic whoop ass. Guest did his homework before he made his move. These other people made a move then started their homework. They got out played before they even knew there was a game. Now it's to late. A lot of people are in politics or been around it and think they understand how it works. Problem is most of them have no idea.
Whoever wins will still be in the minority.,.
People just did not like the person Charlie Ross. Asshole. That’s why he lost. Now, should we vote for her solely because she is a woman? Or, should we see some substance?
If I'm Guests oppponents, I'm hoping that his team is saying that to itself over and over.
8:12 spot on. Ross was a political idiot
There is one person that is elected and actually been involved in local politics besides a Guest and that's Doty. Parker and Hughes have done ZERO in local or state politics in Mississippi. Doty's problem is many in her own county tried to convince her not to run. At least she has been active with the Party. These other bozo's haven't Lifted a finger for anyone. Yet they want your support for congress. But isn't that always the case. "I want to run for office but I'm not going to knock on a door, volunteer, put out signs, hold a fundraiser or do anything for another candidate." It's like never showing up for practice yet you want to play in the big game. What a joke. Vote for people who get involved and help others or get what you deserve.
8:18 hoping is there only hope. You can quote me on that one. LOL

Help me understand how Guest's 'messages' can 'get better' when all he has going for him is a couple of terms as county prosecutor. When there's nothing else in your resume or list of talents, how can it possibly 'get better'? When you played the only card in your hand when you announced, what's left?
A congressional representative gets elected to represent people, take a message to D.C. and vote on stuff a constituent base is interested in, theoretically. Mrs. Doty has that experience and resume. What is there about putting thugs in jail that resonates at that level?
Will somebody tell Pete Perry he's no Pontiff and we don't need his pontification? He will not play a role in telling us who our next representative will be. Those days are gone.
Just as the Kappa Alpha Ole South Balls played out, the day is gone when that old square building in downtown Jackson, populated with fat republicans in blue blazers, making decisions for us, has relevance. Those guys are at full liberty to toast each other and each claim closest association with the Barbours...but they don't speak for us.
Here comes more pomposity from Pete in 3...2...1 (He always starts with, "Thanks for invoking my name, but did you properly genuflect?")

The premise stated by the Guest horse beater posting ad nauseam here that Guest has Madison County sewn up is laughable. Disregard that fool.
Claire Voyunt - I don't think anything I said made any reference as to who you should vote for, or not vote for. As to whether I will play a role or not is to be seen, but nothing in my comments above did I suggest which of the five candidates should get your vote. Nor can you find anything as to which of the five is my choice, or even if I have made a choice. As to pontification, I'll let mine be taken with all the others here - far be it for me to be the only person here that has an opinion. Obviously you feel comfortable in potificating as well. Thanks for your opinion, though. I will place it where I find appropriate.
