Sean McDonough: Ole Miss Worst to Cover

Damn. Mild-mannered sportscaster Sean McDonough pulled no punches when he talked about Ole Miss on The Brandon Walker Show yesterday.  Watch for yourself.

@bfwshow

What’s the worst College Football stadium to broadcast a game from?

Not quite the Mike Leach statement about the MSU visitor's locker room with the toilet in the middle of the room.

Credit to State on that account - let them know what you think about them.

Anonymous said...

Yes, a "mild-mannered puss". It's not about him or anyone else that covers the Ole Miss Rebels. Carry-on...

truth hurts, ole miserables.

Brandon Walker pimping negative Ole Miss information? Say it ain’t so! In other breaking news, water is found to be wet, fire is hot. Stay tuned. The silly season is ending, the games start soon. BW will be plenty busy trying to turn chicken shit into chicken salad.

And Brandon Walker is the worst college football "personality" to watch or listen to. And I harbor no ill will towards MSU, the dude just sucks.

Another unseen fallout of NIL. Ole Miss was in the process of fundraising for a huge stadium renovation, the NIL was legalized and the athletic department put an immediate stop to the plans and told all donors to stop giving to the foundation for a renovation and give to the NIL. The amount of money now donated to a for-profit enterprise like the Grove Collective - that can't be a tax write-off like donating to the athletic department could be (and donating to a modern college athletic department and being able to claim it's a non-profit organization is a whole other discussion) - continues to baffle me but I guess winning football games is cool.

Kingfish said...

Yup. You're seeing that all over. Facilities don't mean as much now. Wait til Ole Miss redoes the stadium and kicks out season ticket holders to build more boxes. Happened in Tallahassee.

Anonymous said...

IDGAF football should be banned at all levels! My school beat your school! Beat my chest!

Anonymous said...

Kingfish, like so many other experts, fails to realize there will be no such thing as college football in 20 years. If anything survives, it'll be like an intramural arena Sunday morning pastime, mixed with heavy weight coeds.

Anonymous said...

Looks like the debate team has an opinion on the matter. Don't you have apples to polish?

Kingfish said...

As they are intent on ruining the sport, you might be right. They brag oh, the numbers are great. Yeah. They were when NASCAR started screwing with everything. How did that work out? Once upon a time, boxing was huge. You could actually see Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard's fights on network tv. Then came pay per view. All the fights went to pay per view. Made great money but then generations of kids grew up without seeing the champs on tv. Can y'all even name one or two boxing champs today? College football can screw it up just as badly too.

Tailgating is stupid! Why do people want to go spend all that money just for a few weekends out of the year! Look at my tent it has all the cutest shit I can find at my boutique shop on the square!!

Anonymous said...

Not surprised; the UM Athletic Assn is squeezing out these spaces that don't generate revenue.Everywhere one turns. I predict that before long the press box will only hold one chair. In the near future,Will tickets be required to set foot in the Grove on gameday?

Anonymous said...

Between my alma mater being hot garbage (MSU) on the field, and NIL ruining the sport, I really am in the 'I don't care about football anymore'. Never been a Brandon Walker fan either.
I dont care about NFL anymore, and I dont hunt much.
I guess I will have no excuse to get me out of Fall weddings and pumpkin patch field trips this year.

Anonymous said...

Tell us you're never invited without telling us you're never invited.

Anonymous said...

I always like to go to the grove on gameday and go to a random tent and drink alcohol and eat some delicious food. I always tell them I am a friend of a friend . Nobody ever asks anymore questions! Then I go to the next tent and drink more alcohol. I hope college football never goes away. I also travel to other SEC schools on gameday and do the same thing. Free alcohol and free food really cut down on the cost of traveling!

Booo Hooo! The rubes from state are irrelevant and they know it. As for the future of Ole Miss, the enlargement of the athletic footprint is "still on go" no matter what the opposing fans want to say. I say to them...dream on. Money is flowing and the athletic department has never been more full and flush with funds. ESPN GameDay is on the schedule this year once again and Oxford will be packed. Student with tickets are turning down $1,000 offers and life is good. If the Rebs keep focused and their noses clean, it's CFP 2 years in a row...love it!

Very interesting perspective KF.

And, you took me back to my youth when "Tastes great! Less Filling!" beer commercials were a common occurence on the tube during some of those boxing matches. Then I thought, "Damn, those were real MEN playing those sports. Not one prettyboy, over-paid kid in a single episode".

People paid to watch real men fight - over anything....even beer.

Anonymous said...

"If the Rebs keep focused and their noses clean"

It's that second part.....

Anonymous said...

Gameday? Dude, they are covering LSU TWICE in the first 3 weeks. The focus is NOT on OM. Talk about your "dream on" issues. Next you'll be talking about how OM is an academic powerhouse too (with a 98% acceptance rate). Read the room or sober up. It's not even noon.

I hope Mr Kingfish will file FOIA with information on FBI searching for bugs, of their former coach might have placed on athletic officials, including Walker Jones, who is the president of the collective.

Anonymous said...

@Kingfish, is there a reason you didn't reply to 8:13's message like 11:26 (and I) did to yours? I've noticed this posting style of yours in the past and was just curious. It makes it hard to see who or what you are responding to without the reply hierarchy and/or noting the time of replied-to post.

That question aside; I totally agree with you. PPV destroyed boxing's reach to the masses. NASCAR is a cluster and you see it happening NOW with the NFL (and MLB). College FB conferences are the minor leagues and seem to be on the same path (mo money, mo money!).

Kingfish said...

When you comment, it gives an option to reply underneath each individual comment. However, after you submit it, it appears at the bottom of all the comments. Aggravating.

It's going to be fun watching Lane Kiffin seeking out his next job at the end of the season. He's NEVER lasted more than a couple of years anywhere before he came to Ole Miss. Gonna be fun hearing all of the catawalling the coonasses wail when it happens...and it WILL! :D

Anonymous said...

What'd you expect from that stadium? It looks like a single wide that had lean tos and redwood decks added on to it 50 or 60 times.

Anonymous said...

You are a friend that a friend would like to have for sure. Such an honest fella.

Anonymous said...

Major college football as we have always known it is dead. It's a professional league run by mostly public and some private institutions. You can argue it's been that way for decades, but at least it used to have the pretense of amateurism and "student" athletes. Now even that is gone.

Anonymous said...

6:58, you are correct, I’m miserable that our press box is slightly crowded. You know what I’m thinking might be even more miserable? Losing the last three Egg Bowls and 5 of the last 6. No big talk from you until you can back it up.

Jon Lovitz said...

10:17, I’m guessing you are also married to Morgan Fairchild; yeah, that’s the ticket.

Anonymous said...

Dayum. Kinda true.

Anonymous said...

All funded by federal tax dollars. BILLIONS in federal financial aid prop them all up, with little to show for most of it.

Anonymous said...

The NIL has absolutely ruined college football. There is no loyalty to your team mates, to the school, to the fan base to anything except the all mighty dollar. It is just ashame. I would not be surprised if college football doesn't become a minor league for the NFL. With NFL teams pumping money into the various programs? Who knows?

Anonymous said...

Imagine Kingfish starting his random, pot-shot comment with: "In response to..." or "@ 11:17..." I reckon that would be too difficult. It's such fun trying to figure out who the hell to whom his reply refers. Actually he does it because he knows it's aggravating.

The penny-loafer crowd thinks it's cute to pick a stretch out of history. But they never do cite the won-lost column during the Mullen years. Wonder why that is. And why has the school over at East Batesville fired nine coaches over the past twenty five years?

Anonymous said...

August 25, 2026 at 3:35 PM - Billions in financial aid via student loans.

Anonymous said...

Brandon Walker looks like a body made from farts. He’s not intelligent, and he’s lazy. He’s just a dumb redneck with a toddler-like temper tantrums.

Anonymous said...

5,24, “pick a stretch out of history”? I simpy picked the current one, the one that is NOT history. If you don’t like “stretches”, we can just go with the all time series record, 67-46-6 in TSUN’s favor. I know it was tough watching us this year in the CFP and CWS, but hang in there, buddy, and keep dreaming of the Dan “We are never losing to this team again!” Mullen years.

Anonymous said...

5:24, since Tommy T. left 28 years ago, the Rebels have had 7 head coaches and only five were fired. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have had 8 head coaches in only 23 years since Sherrill left. And I’ll mention Mullen’s Egg Bowl record; it was 5-4, not quite as good as Johnny Vaught’s record of 19 wins, 2 losses, and 4 ties. Please don’t try to use MSU math when posting.

Anonymous said...

People saying NIL killed college football are delusional. It's been dead 20 or more years, it's just now out in the open. The TV contracts, massive revenue, coaching salaries etc. have been happening long before NIL. Now people are just upset that the players have bargaining power.

Just waiting on the Ole Miss and LSU fight....

OM fan here, who cares if the broadcasters like our stadium?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
