Wayne Parish wants to see the Youth Court file of the deceased Charles McDonald. A Hinds County grand jury indicted him for murder in the shooting death of 17 year-old McDonald that took place in June 2016. The shooting occurred when McDonald jumped out of his mom's car and ran away when she attempted to take him to Henley-Young Youth Detention Center. He had been to Henley-Young eight times in two years and there were two outstanding arrest warrants for McDonald when he was killed.
Parish managed a business, Performance Oil, that is adjacent to Henley-Young. He confronted McDonald as he broke into a secretary's car. Security camera video (posted below) shows a struggle over the gun taking place when McDonald was killed. A grand jury did indicted Parish in October 2016 but he was not arrested until December 29, 2016. He remained in custody without bond until he was arraigned on January 10. Judge Kidd allowed him to post a $50,000 bond. The District Attorney did not object to the bond as he said he only learned of the security camera video's existence after Parish was indicted. Parish is represented by attorney Merrida Coxwell.
Parish filed a motion for issuance of a subpoena duces tecum on December 28. The motion succinctly states the defendant's version of what took place that tragic day in June:
The deceased, Charles McDonald, had run off from Youth Court and was breaking into a car on the private property of Performance Oil when Mr. Parish confronted him. Mr. Parish walked outside his business after witnessing Mr. McDonald attempting to break a window on an automobile. According to witnesses, Mr. Parish asked Mr. McDonald to stop trying to break a window and leave the property at least ten (10) times. Rather than leave, Mr. McDonald began chasing Mr. Parish around the car. Mr. McDonald began swinging his fist/hands at Mr. Parish, and then grabbed Mr. Parish’s gun. In the ensuing struggle, Mr. McDonald was continuously attempting to take Mr. Parish’s gun from him. Prior to the shooting of Mr. McDonald, he was committing the crimes of attempted auto burglary, trespass, and assault.
2. Witnesses to the shooting of Mr. McDonald reported that he continuously tried to throw a hard metal object at the window of the car even as Mr. Parish asked him repeatedly to leave the property. As Mr. McDonald began attacking Mr. Parish, Mr. Parish fired a warning shot into the ground. This did not deter Mr. McDonald; rather he began pursuing Mr. Parish around the car as Mr. Parish attempted to avoid a confrontation.
Parish wants a copy of McDonald's Youth Court records. The motion argued:
Mr. Parish is entitled to inquire into the background of the deceased, Mr. Charles McDonald. Counsel has learned that Mr. McDonald has been involved in repeated drug treatments and in significant criminal offenses, which were handle in Youth Court. While they are not considered criminal offenses in Youth Court, there are types of violent behavior, which could be relevant during the trial of this case. Drug treatment and drug use are relevant because drugs can effect both the behavior of a person and that person’s ability to see, remember and act in accordance with social behavioral norms, and can lead to aggressive action, which is relevant in self-defense cases. The trial is scheduled to begin on January 28.

The justice system did this hoodlum a injustice. He should've never been released and Parish did what he was legally within his right to do. Believe Carlos the clown called McDonald a "guest" on the property. This is such garbage and he should be disbarred for doing such. It's clear the hoodlum McDonald wasn't a invited guest. You one day face consequences of your actions and McDonald faced the consequences that day.

Telling how the Charles McDonalds of Jackson never end up enrolled in her youth media efforts. Nor former convicts or the real at-risk students inside of JPS for that matter. And why isn't she providing free writing classes inside of Henley-Young and the Raymond Detention Center?
Cannot believe he was indicted; and how does prosecuting atty 'not know' of actual video, and or not drop charge after watching it? (practicing atty)...
Wayne Parrish is going to be crucified in Hinds County. He needs to be preparing a Bug Out box before he is served the final judgement.
Easier to get Money from Performance Oil if a honkey is arrested.
The killing of a young man is a serious matter, regardless of whether that man has a troubled background or not. In this case however, Mr. Parish should never have been indicted. This is a tragic case for everyone. However, if this man is found guilty then there is no justice in Jackson and I wouldn't even stop for gas in that city. You never know when someone might attack you and then you end up spending years in jail.
@ 8:50...
The "reason" for the killing of the young hoodlum not "man" is the real matter here. He was killed because of his actions, nothing more, nothing less. His actions justified his death.
Mr. Parish may be in trouble, but its because he's white, not because he's a killer.
Sad video, seeing his mother pull up and seeing him shot. Terrible. Hopefully, she will find peace. Shooter should never have been charged imo.
Mr. Coxwell needs to get this trial moved out of Hinds county. There is no way that his “white” client will get a fair trial in front of a Hinds county jury.
The mother of the boy should be put in jail instead of the man who had to take care of a problem she caused.
Has Donna Ladd watched the video yet? ROFLMAO
Because she can't write, 12:44. You must have not ever read her rag. (Sorry to insult rags.)
I don't understand why Parish was charged. It is obvious he was being attacked and protecting his property and life. Am I missing something?
