U.S. Attorney Greg Davis issued the following statement:
Two Jackson Men Plead Guilty to Using a Firearm
During a Drug Trafficking Crime Causing the Death of an Individual
Jackson, Miss - Anthony Watson, 26, and Joshua Martin, 24, both from Jackson, pled guilty on Friday, May 20, 2016, before U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves, to using a firearm during a drug trafficking offense, U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis announced today.
Watson and Martin admitted to killing Sharod Vaughn, 22, of Jackson, Mississippi, during the early morning hours of August 13, 2013, at 2034 Wisteria Drive in Jackson, Mississippi. Vaughn died of multiple gunshot wounds from the SKS rifle and .45 caliber pistol used by the defendants. The defendants were meeting with Vaughn to exchange the firearms for marijuana when the shooting occurred.
Watson and Martin will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves on September 1, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.

this is good to hear....but also, the wheels of justice are way too slow. crime occurred August of 2013, deal reached May of 2016, & sentencing to occur another 4 months later.
3:02 it is my understanding once the Feds get a case a trial date is set within 70 days ( federal statute ). It must have been lingering in state courts for some reason.

You know we would scour the report for a Mr. Davis, to no avail.

As I read this the two admitted killing him yet they pled to using a gun in an offense. So they get away with the murder?
No. Feds got them for gun crimes. State still has them for murder.
All State charges were remanded on each because the feds had the case- wow- They did- they did get away with Murder-
Not the first time, won't be the last.
This has lingered in my mind for the last three years..... pleading guilty to using a firearm is not pleading guilty to murder. So what happens to the murder charge? Who's responsible for the murder?
