Habitual offender gets 95 years for savage beating

Madison-Rankin District Attorney Michael Guest issued the following statement:

Canton Man Receives 95-Year Sentence for Burglary and
Aggravated Assault of a 75-Year Old Victim

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Xavier Collins Johnson was sentenced to serve 95 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.  A Madison County jury found Johnson guilty of the 2014 Burglary of a Dwelling and Aggravated Assault of a 75-year old Madison County man and Conspiracy to Commit Credit Card Fraud.  Johnson was convicted as a habitual offender and will be required to serve his sentence without the possibility of probation, parole or early release.

On July 30, 2014, the Canton Police Department was called to the residence of a 75-year old man after his wife discovered him on the ground in the driveway of their home.  The man had been beaten and was unconscious.  The victim of the assault was air lifted to UMMC and was hospitalized for three months.

The investigation by the Canton Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department discovered that Johnson not only assaulted the man, but had burglarized his home, taking his wife’s purse from inside the house and conspiring with another defendant to use her credit card.  Following his arrest, law enforcement recovered the shoes believed to have been worn by Johnson at the time of the assault.  Tests revealed the shoes contained trace amounts of blood.  Additional tests determined that the blood located on Johnson’s shoes was the victim’s blood.

Guest stated, “It is outrageous that a man who had already been in prison, a habitual offender, continues his lawlessness and actually escalates his crimes by preying on some of our most vulnerable citizens—our elderly.  In this case, he beat an elderly man almost to death and then went into his home and into his wife’s purse to steal cash and credit cards.”

Guest concluded, “It is a testament to the teamwork of law enforcement in Madison County and the citizens of Madison County who take jury duty seriously that a three-time convicted felon is finally off the streets. The Canton Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Attorney General’s Office, along with investigators from the District Attorney’s office worked tirelessly to bring a just conclusion to this case.  Because of their hard work Johnson will now spend the remainder of his life behind bars.”

Xavier Johnson has previously been convicted for three counts of receiving stolen property in Madison County in 2011 and was on probation at the time of this crime.

Defendant
Name:                          Xavier Collins Johnson
Address:          279 Pine Drove Road, Canton
Date of Birth:   November 16, 1993

5 years in Hinds County.

No, he would have been released after a few days in Jail if he was arrested for the same crime in Hinds county. Remember criminals have a safe place in Jackson.

Damn. It just leaves me feeling so sad for the victim and hopeless about this aspect of black and low income society.

1993. Barely college-age and already a habitual offender committing crimes against the elderly that could have honestly resulted in this older man's death.

We have to get these kids into the Marines or something at 18. Something that can straighten them out.

I literally do not understand.

10:50 We better hurry! At the rate the military is becoming a social experiment, it won't be a "straighten up" option for much longer!

Good job Guest! My only request for the next one is the death penalty. This worthless piece of trash will now live off the tax payers for years to come. Once convicted, we should march his ass to a firing squad (easily found & cheap in Rankin County). Let's put it on TV so his cousins & friends who are thinking about it will be discouraged from doing it. It'll cost a box of shells & then over! No appeal, no wasted court time, just good old fashioned justice. Keep up the good work Guest

While it sometimes has that result, it is not the military's purpose or responsibility to 'straighten people out'.

Good Job, DA Guest!!
He got just what he deserved! A good example for any others in Madison County who might be entertaining the idea of doing something similar. It's unfortunate that Hinds County can't follow your example; if so, they might could clean up the crime that is destroying Jackson and Hinds County as a whole.

Thank you for all you do to keep us safe in Madison County as well as those in Rankin County.

Wow. I only hope that you one day can learn to know God's Love and Grace and learn to value human life.

Death penalty would actually be much more expensive.

Not to take anything away from the DA at all, I think he does an excellent job. I'm glad he got this bastard off the street. The victim needs to consider himself lucky that there wasnt a mistrial due to one juror voting not guilty.

I've personally had it happen in Madison county on the burglary of my home. The perpetrator bashed our door in, trashed our home, stole our belongings and basically got away with it.

Canton PD investigated, got his finger prints from a number of locations inside our home. The perp had a lengthy prior record and the prints lifted inside our house got him arrested and charged. We went to trial and got 11 guilty and 1 not guilty and the guy walks. What really chapped my ass is the fact that his prior record could not be bought up in court.

In this day and age and things being as they are now, any defendants prior arrest record should be allowed in court and each charge the defendant was arrested on as well so the jury will know the character and type person they are dealing with so a truly informed decision can be made.

I know there are those that are going to bash me on this but let it happen to you and you will change your tune.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
