Sources familiar with the investigation of the murder of the two Hattiesburg police officer gave JJ an unconfirmed account of the horrific events that took place this weekend.
Officer Deen approached the vehicle. Marvin Banks was outside the car but there was a gun on the front seat. He pulled the gun out and shot Deen in the face. Deen's face is supposedly covered with residue. The source said he was "dead before he even hit the ground". Both officers were wearing bullet-proof vests. Officer Tate turned to run and get cover behind the door of his car. Banks allegedly fired at him and hit him in the back below his vest. The bullet went upward into his upper body, hit the aorta and other organs. Banks is reported to have confessed to the crime.
This is unconfirmed but as stated earlier, I am pretty confident in my sources to post this alleged account of what took place Saturday night in Hattiesburg.

fucking animals. i hope they rot in prison then in hell.
Any idea KF why the Banks bros were out on the streets? Does Forrest County have a catch-and-release program and a bench populated with Tomie Green equivalents?
I'm from Hattiesburg and everything I have seen, the Forrest County Circuit Court judge and DA are good and tough.
I'm always amused by the armchair police procedure experts on Facebook and elsewhere who opine on the creative ways they would defuse the situation without resorting to force.
In reality, this is how it happens. You take your eyes off the wrong guy for one second and you're dead. You don't even know it's happening. Hence, the only responsible way for police to handle ANY level of resistance is to gain total control immediately and maintain it until the suspect is cuffed and in the vehicle.
Close the airports and the interstates. I'm sure Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are on their way to protest the arrest of these thug killers - because they are black their arrest must be a racially motivated act.
I am sincerely fearful for law enforcement officers because the present environment villafies them and celebrates the thugs.

I'm always amused by the anonymous experts who have no greater claim to their expertise while anonymous than do the "armchair" experts they bemoan.
I didn't approve the comment because it had nothing to do with this post. Want to gripe about Congress, there are other threads.
Damned animals need to be put down.
Slow and painfully.
This is awful, just awful.
Their poor families. My thoughts are with them.
5:33, it's 5:22.
My expertise comes from eight years of defending section 1983 excessive force lawsuits brought against police.
I'm sure the phrase "have no greater claim to their expertise while anonymous" means something in your head, but you'll have to translate for me. Did my expertise go away because I didn't tell you my background? Did I forget stuff I knew because you didn't know how I knew it? Did you mean to say "claim to their authority"? Did I invoke any authority?
They shot the first officer out of pure prejudice. The second one was just unfortunate backup. If liquori had shown up first, we wouldn't have any dead officers.
Why turn this racial? The cops were both blue. Plain and simple.
8:33, that just sucks. No need for that. The shooters were thugs and the families of both cops deserve a little respect and dignity right now. Your comment is just BS and ill timed. Show some class. Borrow some if you have to.
Because it was racial. No matter how much people don't want to admit it.
If liquori had shown up first, we wouldn't have any dead officers.
....because, he would have opened fire on site
because, he knew they were up to no good
because, ...screw you you black racist POS
GO POUND SAND
I didn't enslave you or any of your relatives
Stop trying to tarnish these LEO's for doing the their job, black, white..right, wrong, stop being an ASSHOLE, Jackwagon.
8:33 is likely correct. But given the admininistrations (Obama) war on cops in the past couple of years, is there any shock that this happened? That the shooter was a member of an oppressed minority?
Sad indeed
In 2011, 72 police officers were feloniously killed. 49 of those were killed by whites,29 were killed by African Americans felons,2 by Native Americans, 1 by Asian/Pacific and in 2 cases the race was unreported.
51 officers were killed last year but the FBI stats weren't available in detail.
Only 14% of the murders in the US in 2011 were blacks killing whites.
This is a horrible tragedy and loss to Hattiesburg of two fine young men serving their community...one white, one black.
Both races should be united in grief.
Those of you trying to take this as an opportunity to negatively stereotype crime by race should be ashamed. I'm ashamed of you just as many in the black community, I'm sure are ashamed of those arrested for this horrible murder!
Al and Jesse wont be coming to Mississippi for this. They have no grounds to. Both a black and white officer were murdered. It makes their point moot.
@10:18pm---- WHAT YOU SAID, BROTHER!! Took the words right out of my mouth! Thankyou
Yesterday, I was supportive of the mother who said her boys were guilty but she still loved them. Now she appears on camera, grief stricken blaming the murders on 'he's on drugs and this was not him' and another person, apparently a sister, using vulgar language that was bleeped.
Back to things as usual.
May 12, 2015 at 6:44 AM = An ashamed but big time loyal JJ reader!
@ 6:44 Since the early 1980's the number of murders where whites killed blacks has been about half the number of blacks killing whites. Just saying. Source: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/394489/new-data-its-still-about-black-black-crime-heather-mac-donald
Mayor Dupree plays blame game: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/05/11/hattiesburg-mayor-lax-concealed-carry-laws-contributed-to-officers-deaths/
I wish you people would just dig down in your souls and TRY to show some respect to both these grieving families, officers, and citizens all over this state. The only race that should be brought up in this case is the HUMAN race. Today let us pray for their families and save our racial fights for another day. Please!!!
Mayor Dupree, PhD is once again towing the liberal line decrying concealed carry laws that had nothing to do with the murder of his two officers. A revolving door felon, first arrested at the tender age of 12, a felony under his belt by 18, was in possession of a illegal firearm. Which by law is a felony.
Law abiding taxpayers own properly purchased and permitted firearms. For which, they attend additional instructional classes paid for by their own money. Then additional money is paid to the great State of Mississippi for fingerprinting and yet another background check. Then the law abiding taxpayer is issued an ID card allowing him/her to carry the legal firearm.
Would you be shocked to learn both Mayor Dupree, PhD and First Lady Dupree, EdD possess such ID cards and legal firearms? But why deal in facts?
