A Madison County jury found Michael Potts guilty of first degree. Murder and grand theft auto. The jury deliberated for nearly four hours. The judge imposed a sentence of life plus ten years.

And that ambulance chaser defense lawyer said his client was not happy with the verdict. AWWWW, really?
And what about the family of the victim, were they happy with the loss of a family member?????
What's not being mentioned is this guy was indicted in Hinds County for Carjacking and Armed Robbery in 2013, out on bond, committed this murder, and his case is still not resolved. Another case of clogged dockets allowing these predators to roam the streets.
Don't they have the death penalty in Madison County?
Bring public hangings on the square and it should slow down the crimes these thugs and hooligans commit.
Maybe just maybe the Hinds D.A will see how the justice system actually works. He needs to go spend time with DA Guest to learn the tricks of the trade.
Again.....why not the death penalty? Capital Murder.
While I agree the death penalty is warranted in this case, it is also a crap shoot finding the right jury. It's easy to "say" guilty and choose the death penalty, as I believe in the death penalty, but if I was a juror and had to take a life, I don't know if I could do it. Talk is sometimes cheap. It's different actually being responsible for taking a life and having to live with it.
Thank you for the lesson in hypothetical, sympathetic detachment, 10:47. I'm not sure whether you are bemoaning your inability to step-up or accusing me of not completely thinking through my ability to do the same.
Every trial is a crap-shoot. Had Guest sought the death penalty and the jury been composed of people like you, the outcome would have been the same as we now have, a life sentence by the judge.
Had the deceased been a well known, heterosexual, white professor at Millsaps or Mississippi College, we would not be having this discussion.
hmmm. To continue the argument (last post censored), 10:47 is a coward. While he says he believes the death penalty is warranted, he also says he would be nervous about voting for it (and would not). This is the kind of goober who would be excluded from a jury pool at the get-go!
10:47, you said, "While I agree the death penalty is warranted in this case......I believe in the death penalty.......I don't know if I could do it (that is, personally vote for the DP).
Seems to me, either you don't really believe in it or you're a liberal (you believe in something, provided you don't have to do / give / pay anything yourself)
It's Melvin Potts, not Michael.
7:24 & 7:34: I'm proud to be a republican. A coward to convict for the death penalty, probably. A goober? That just shows your mentality. LOL I've served on 2 juries and no they weren't death penalty cases, but they got the maximum allowed. Guess I speak out of both sides of my mouth. I carry a concealed weapon and have shot to kill at an intruder. If I'm a coward,so be it.
What if the deceased had been a popular, white, heterosexual professor at Millsaps or Mississippi College?
Why does it always have to be about race. The last I heard, all blood is red, tears shed are the same color and a families grief doesn't have a color barrier. Stop living in the past.
I know! I know! Guest would have immediately announced 'We're going for the death penalty!'
@ 8:39....The past, you say. Welcome to the present.
