Jackson Ward 1 Councilman Quinten Whitwell submitted his letter of resignation today to the Jackson City Council. Mr. Whitwell had said that he would not resign until October 31. Meanwhile, Charles Barbour announced his candidacy for the position. The Street Committee also says Northsider Ashby Foote will jump in the race in the next few days as well.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

So when is the election?
The announcement says: "Former Hinds County Supervisor announces candidacy for Jackson City Council Looks forward to once again representing the Republican Party in Jackson, Miss." Does he not realize it is a non-partisan position he is seeking? Neither party will own the seat.
3:27, This will very much be a partisan race. You have a well known Democrat in Dorsey Carson running against several GOP'ers in Barbour, Wilson, and apparently Foote. The voters will know which candidates belong to which party.
that seat should be reserved to punish white criminals in Jackson. Oh yeah, that 8th amendment thing about cruel and unusual punishment...
Not so fast, 3:27.
1) This is not a non-partisan position, nor is it a non-partisan election. It is a special election where candidates may not be required to qualify for party nomination. That does not make the position a non-partisan position.
2) Special elections can include primaries - check out the two supervisor elections in 2013 in Hinds County, and the CC race this summer in Madison.
3) Even if the candidates run 'without party' does not mean that they are 'non-partisan'. A candidate can (and should) declare his political principles and affiliations.
3) No party ever 'owns' a seat - no matter what kind of election is held. It is held by the citizens - and Ward 1 is primarily a Republican Ward.
4) Hold your bets on whether this will be decided without a primary. I am sure that any Democrat that wants this job hope that it will be, but the chips are still on the table at present.
Um, what's so urgent that he couldn't wait for the 31st?
The whole story has yet to be told, so I'll have my ear to the ground
This is sad. Charles doesn't know it yet, but the power base is behind Ashby Foote and even if they weren't Charles's vote will be a referendum on the Barbour name and it's not going to be pretty. Why can't they see that? And Dorsey, if that's you posting please know everyone in North Jackson is about to find out you are Obama's biggest contributor in Mississippi.
One party deciding to hold a primary does not obligate any other parties to also hold a primary.
As for Ward 1 being primarily a Republican ward. Less so today than yesterday and less so tomorrow than today. The transition is happening much more rapidly than the Republicans will care to admit.
[Jackson Ward 1 Councilman Quinten Whitwell submitted his letter of resignation today and puppies are still being openly sold on County Line Road.]
Bon Voyage Whitwell. You accomplished nothing.
The power base is behind Amile Wilson. Wilson is the next Republican God-in-Waiting.
Will Rosemary be joining Charles Barbour on the campaign trail? Is Henry Barbour helping with his brother's campaign for Ward 1? Things are about to get very interesting for NEJXN!
Party means nothing at the local level except color.
Party may not mean much if the winner is going to dedicate his political career to serving Jackson's Ward 1. However, if the voters are going to give a bright young man his political start I'd prefer that they choose a Republican. I don't have any more standing to comment on this race than anyone else outside the ward, but when the winner of this race moves on to another political challenge a few years from now I probably will. If that happens I want to be voting for Amile Wilson.
Let's be honest. How many of the hosts of the Amile Wilson campaign kick off event actually live in and/or are legally qualified to vote in the Ward 1 special election? Bill, with all due respect, you don't as well as many of the others listed as hosts on the invite. That is VERY telling. I assume the Amile and Barbour voters will cancel out each other. Sincerely doubt Charles has any chance, especially with Barbour being his last name and his reputation in Jackson overall (not to mention previous election losses) - regardless of/if he employ's brother Henry's legendary "tactics". And FYI, I did not vote or support McDaniel so save us all some time in your responses. Cheers and best of luck Ward 1.
9:53 Bill:
As a McD TBilly guy, your endorsement in this town is the kiss of death.
The fact that he is leaving speaks volumes. Jackson will now have more opportunity to sink lower yet into the sewer. Costco will never open in an "up and coming" business district that is home to drugs, guns, robbery, carjacking and hip-hop gangsta types. Why should he lower himself to be part of a city system that is incapable of completing a project, handling money or properly educating children (in their own public schools). City leaders can hold rally's, town-hall meetings and put a positive spin on any negative talk, and the fools will storm the poles to re-elect them. Nothing will change for the better till the leadership is Republican. Anywhere Democrat's are in power, is always trash or trashed soon after. You gave it your all and did well. Now get the he[[ out of dodge. Come live with those of us who actually can live peacefully and prosper.
Um, 11:28. This is about Ward 1, not 3. Come visit us sometime. You will be amazed at the happiness here, and the development transpiring. Also the home construction in Eastover. No it is not cookie cutter.
Look for Chokwe Antar Lumumba to jump in.
@ 7:08 AM - Oh yes all the development. Stop at the new Whole Foods and get your car broken into. Go across the interstate at Northside and get gang raped.
It may be a hot time to buy in NE Jackson due to the sinking property values. The question is - has it hit rock bottom?
Enjoy the great public services such as numerous boil water alerts. Put a twig out with your garbage? Good luck it's not our job to pick up twigs. You must bring those to a designated location each month for collection.
We can't get people to buy houses in Jackson, so we grossly inflate vehicle property taxes. Think twice before you buy that $50K BMW because City of Jackson will get around $2K of it when you need it tagged.
Do you like prowlers? Find it Fondren along with weirdos.
Eastover can't hold up NE Jackson forever. The district won't bring NE Jackson back to what it once was.
I live in 39211 and I agree with Oct.7 @ 5:15 p.m. Can't think of one thing that Whitwell actually accomplished as Councilman. The surface of my street has pretty much turned into gravel.
Ashby Foote is very sharp, West Point grad, etc. with no obvious political aspirations. Why in the world would he want this job?
To know Charles Barbour is to vote for Ashby Foote.
@ 5:06 PM, I always use my real name when posting. Thanks for the mention.
One notable achievement was that Whitwell was able to build a concensus of the Council to pass the public gating ordinance for Jackson. Great accomplishment, and not to be forgotten.
I've been to Whole Foods a lot--haven't had my car vandalized or anything stolen from it. Not to say it will not happen, but this kind of thing happens everywhere every day. It happened at my wife's work--on Highland Colony in Ridgeland to one of her co-workers...
14 registered sex offenders live in madison...
I also go to Whole Foods almost every day. No problem. Police cars circling with lights on, very evident they are there and also across at McDade's parking lot. Ridgeland and Madison people you made your choice to live elsewhere; your exaggerated posts to justify you choice are not needed on this thread concerning Jackson.
The fact is that whoever is elected will have to form a coalition of 4 votes to get anything done. Partisan party types will never get it done for Ward 1 on this Council, and TBillies have no chance of influencing the Council, and every chance of alienating it for all time.
Oh, yes, a monumental accomplishment. A public gating ordinance. LOL
10:51, I can't imagine that the ten or eleven people in Ward 1 who even know I exist are going to swing the election, but thanks for the unintended compliment. However, if you're right and my "endorsement" means something, how does my support of McDaniel in 2014 compare with my votes for Harper in 2014 or Romney and Harper and Wicker in 2012 or Tate Reeves and Stacey Pickering and Mike Chaney in the primaries of 2011 and all the Republican nominees for statewide office in the same year? Never mind the thousands of dollars I have contributed to the state party and other national groups. Other than my McDaniel vote my past has been solidly establishment. Before you say your comment is based on how my most recent vote was cast, sort of the what have you done for me lately approach, understand that I have publicly pledged to vote for the Republican nominee in the US Senate general election in November, and that vote will be cast prior to anyone voting in the City Council election. Someone who would judge someone else based on one vote is probably someone whose opinion shouldn't be taken very seriously.
Amile is a friend of mine and I support his candidacy even though I can't vote for him. I hope he wins and does a great job for the residents of Ward 1, and I hope he eventually moves on to an office where his party will make a difference. Bill Billingsley
Whitwell quit because it shortens the time for the special election to 30 days after he quits, thereby capitalizing on the head start Dorsey got over everyone else and cutting the time others will have to catch up. Dorsey all but announced that on his Facebook page.
But Bill you not only voted for McDaniel, you provided one of the two affidavits used in McDaniel's lawsuit (still ongoing) to claim that ALL Hinds County votes in the run-off should be thrown out.
What is the story behind Quentin resigning?
Did he move to Oxford, MS?
He leave his firm?
What is the real story?
I really do not understand our State sometimes.
How does someone like Charles Barbour have so little shame? It truly disgusts me and legitimately angers me that he thinks it is proper to throw his name into consideration.
I don't want that crook anywhere near a position of power.
I know someone whose vehicle was broken into in the Whole Foods parking lot last Monday between 5 PM and 7 PM. A book bag with an iPad and iPhone as well as a gun were stolen. They were parked on the Old Canton side. A slim jim or some other type of device was used because the car window was not broken.
I'm sure JPD will release a nifty .pdf with a legend where you can verify it.
Just because a cop who was reduced to parking lot duties is there doesn't mean the crime isn't going to happen at Whole Foods. The criminals aren't afraid of JPD or the prosecutors in Hinds county. I'm sure they can't wait until the parking across the street is ready so they can target new victims.
Unless I am mistaken, Charles Barbour is not the brother of Henry Barbour. They are cousins. Isn't Charles the son of Judge William Barbour?
12:45
No, he is not.
12:45 & 1:00. Yes and no. ChaChing. Both of you are correct. There are two Charles Barbours, and I believe both live in NE Jackson.
11:20, you and Dorsey need to go back to law school and study a little more.
Please quote your authority for how QW quitting 'shortens the time for the special election to 30 days'. Maybe you are using the Chris McDaniel/Mitch Tyner concept of election law is what I want it to be, not what it is.
11:34, you should read a little more closely. My affidavit says no such thing. It lists the crossover votes that I found, along with some absentee ballots that were tossed by the precinct managers. You won't find my name on anything that says Hinds County results should be thrown out.
12:45, you are indeed mistaken. Charles, Henry, Austin and Jep (lost to Philip Gunn in a controversial 2003 race) are all sons of Jeppie Barbour, who was a Chris McDaniel supporter. BB
11:12, talk to the residents of the neighborhoods who installed a public access gate, and I think you will find they think its a big deal.
Didn't approve a post because it named the wrong person and would be slander.
2:30 Oh. I should blame the legal request on Tyner I guess; you just innocently supplied the affidavit! So, Bill, what Affidavit are you and Amile planning this time if, God and Heaven forbid, Amile loses here in good ole Jackson/Hinds County?
If any of y'all had looked at the 2012 election results in Ward 1, you would see that Obama won the ward. Still think its crazy that a democrat can win? Dorsey has a heck of a shot and is certainly the best candidate.
I guess Amile Wilson could do a documentary on the white flight out of NE Jackson. I don't know what about him qualifies him to be on the council.
Knock it off. Bill didn't do a damn thing wrong. He comported himself in a professional manner. No one who was involved in the vote counting or ballot examination from either side had a problem with him. If supporters on both sides had acted as he did, there would have been much fewer problems in this election. Too bad you are easily threatened by his mere existence.
How does someone like Charles Barbour have so little shame?
He's only following Uncle Haley's cue.
The perps have it figured out that the people who shop at Whole Foods can afford to buy a $10 head of lettuce. They have followed the money and want some of it. The decoy cop car is a total joke.
The Charles Barbour I know in Jackson is not this guy, for the record. The other Charles played baseball for Ole Miss, had an amazing arm, played on the Olympic team, and is a heralded attorney in Jackson. He's also strikingly good looking, another differentiator. His son is going to win the Heisman for OM one day (HT) and is a state champion swimmer. I know Charles Barbour, and this is no Charles Barbour (at least not THAT Charles Barbour).
Is it true that Charles's wife, Rosemary, founded the company she used to steal millions in FEMA money for Katrina survivors in her maiden name? Does Alcatec still exist?
5;41: Let's not get carried away and exaggerate, please. The civil fines were not more than a couple of hundred thousand as I understand it from reading the stories from 2011, not millions.
5:41 And inadequate bookkeeping I understand was a big part of it.
To 8:04 a.m.:
I for one and glad that a whack job like you does not live in Jackson. You might want to double up on your meds. And please, don't come to Jackson.
5:41, and others - Lots of good 'urban legand' here. Not facts. Evidently you like street stories. Alcatec is not Rosemary's maiden name. Fines were for bookkeeping omissions and wage rates - not defrauding the fed government or "stealing money" as you anonymously claim. Did I like her dealing? Frankly, no, but the accusations being made here are far from truthful.
Same with Bill B - his affidavit didn't make any claim about throwing out Hinds County votes. While some of the findings in his affidavit need further investigation (which, i think, he said) his efforts in the aftermath of this fiasco were all done with professionalism and accuracy - not the b/s that came out of the following legal papers.

It has happened. My vehicle was broken in to in the Whole Foods parking lot last week...in daylight.
There are two things I like about 10:13's post defending Rosemary Barbour.
I like how 10:13 ignores the glaring question, "How can a graduate of Westover and Goucher who worked in the Bush 41 administration and married into a powerful political family at age 24 be legitimately certified as 'disadvantaged?'" Also, why does Rosemary Barbour always use her married name, except that when she purports herself as "disadvantaged" Rosemary uses her maiden name.
I like how 10:13 points out how detractors of Barbour post anonymously, while 10:13 is posting anonymously.
And yes, I post anonymously. I have always found the Barbour family to be both powerful and vindictive.
