Attorney General Jim Hood issued the following press release:
A Raymond resident is going to prison for possession of child porn, announced Attorney General Jim Hood.
Thomas
Andrew Opiela, age 52, of Raymond pleaded guilty to two counts of child
exploitation (possession of child porn) in Hinds County Circuit Court
today before Judge William A. Gowan. As a result, Opiela was sentenced
to ten years, with five suspended, five to serve. He was also ordered
to serve five years post release supervision, pay $1,000 to the crime
victim compensation fund and he must register
as a sex offender upon release.
The Attorney General’s investigation found child pornography on the defendant’s home computer.
“We
caught this defendant downloading videos and pictures of child
pornography from the internet and then placing them on a file sharing
network,”
said Attorney General Hood. “We are glad to have stopped him, and
appreciate Judge Gowan for making sure he goes to prison.”
