Ashby Foote jumps into Ward 1 race.

Northeast Jackson resident Ashby Foote issued the following press release:

ASHBY FOOTE ANNOUNCES JACKSON WARD 1 CAMPAIGN

Financial advisor targets economic growth, infrastructure, crime
JACKSON (OCTOBER 9, 2014) – Today, Ashby Foote announced his campaign for the Ward 1 Jackson City Council seat vacated by Quintin Whitwell.

“I want to make Jackson stronger: a stronger Jackson economy, better working infrastructure, and safer streets and communities,” said Foote, President of Vector Money Management, an investment advising firm he founded in 1988.

Foote continued:

“This isn’t about political aspirations.  I’d never entertained the idea of running for office before now. This is about serving my neighbors and city. I love Jackson.  My wife and I have made it our home for thirty years.  We want Jackson to succeed and Jacksonians to prosper.”
“Jackson is a great city, but like many cities we face economic, infrastructure and crime challenges and it is not easy to simply shrug one’s shoulders and sit on the sideline. I believe my extensive background in finance and economics can bring value and private sector vision to the decision making process at City Hall.”

“I want Jackson to perform up to its economic potential. That takes leadership at the neighborhood and city level.  Strong neighborhoods are crucial building blocks for successful cities.  It requires reliable infrastructure.  It requires safety for citizens and businesses; crime is an economic killer. But business safety is more than just crime.  Jackson must be hospitable to new enterprises looking for places to locate and good neighborhoods and schools for their employees.  Businesses want a transparent, limited government that plays by the rule of law the same for everyone; cronyism is an economic wet blanket. We need a city government that focuses on the essential roles of government and does those efficiently while freeing up other areas for free markets and the private sector. This will help city government to live within its means and improve tax rates.  Economic capital, intellectual capital, and creative capital flow to where they are well treated and safe.  Jackson can be just such a place.”

Foote said he would be rolling out his campaign in coming days and said he looked forward to an active and vigorous campaign.

Ashby Foote is President of Vector Money Management, an independent registered investment advisory firm he founded in 1988.  Foote graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1974.  He served our country as an artillery officer and in the Army Reserves for over 10 years.  Foote is recognized as a leader in economic development and economic growth, having held leadership positions on numerous boards in Mississippi as well as serving as a member of the investment committee for the West Point endowment funds. Ashby and Suzie Foote have been married for 30 years and have four children, Turner, Sarah Ashby, Stuart and Tommy.  The Footes are members of Christ United Methodist Church.

Ashby wud be a GREAT public servant--good judgement born of experience--NOT in it for ego and money!!

Best candidate yet

Awesome news!! There is a God!! What a great addition he will be to the council and our city! Can't believe Ashby would do this, but am so pleased he is.

Thanks Ashby to get involved.

Should be a big asset to the City Council. just hope the three ring circus is not too exhausting.

A quick google search reveals the business he owns office is in Ridgeland. Are you serious? No thanks.

Anonymous said...

12:04 Ashby has lived just off Northside Drive for years now, in the heart of Ward 1, and had an office for many years on the frontage road near Northside Drive, so fact that his present office is just off County Line Road on the Ridgeland side is not really relevant. If elected, he will have an office right downtown inside City Hall, thank you very much.

Ashby is a good-humored, intelligent, tough-minded gentleman. His experience will be invaluable on the Council. I look forward to voting for him.

I haven't lived in Jxn for many years but have had a business in the I55N area almost 30. You better believe I and others like me have a stake in what goes on here even though I can't cast my ballot here.

Anonymous said...

12:04 you can do better than that I would think.

One of the councilman's primary job is to try to convince businesses to stay and move to Jackson. What would it say if said councilman didn't have his own business in Jackson. How is this not making sense to anyone? I'm sure he's a great guy but come on.

Kingfish said...

Barbour's had quite a few businesses outside of Jackson. A dry cleaner's, Baskin Robbins, Dorsey's best client is in Madison County; yet you don't say a word.

Anonymous said...

2:46 grow up. The city of Jackson doesn't even require all of its employees to LIVE in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

Apples to oranges. If you don't understand the difference then I can't help understand it for you. We are talking about a home office here.

Anonymous said...

good luck to Ashby. thanks for throwing your hat in

Dorsey Carson said...

Kingfish, you might be aware that I donated $20+k in legal fees to our mutual client Bigger Pie Forum (i.e., Ashby Foote) in our successful fight to the MS Supreme Court and back against Southern Co. I was in court today on Ashby's behalf in that case. He's a great guy, and I welcome him to the race!

One of the councilman's primary job is to try to convince businesses to stay and move to Jackson.

BINGO.

That fact that Foote moved his business outside of Jackson is damn relevant because he moved all applicable taxes or portions thereof generated by that business and payable to the city and/or the county outside of both.

Where one's customers reside is a bullshit weak ass attempt to draw Carson into Foote's problem because the taxes from Carson's or any other candidate's Jackson-based businesses are generated inside of Jackson.

Get a f'ing clue Kingfish.

Comparing Foote's office residency to anything associated with Barack Carson is a stretch. Get a f'ing clue 3:42.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't matter where Ashby locates his business? How many times have city leaders especially big mouth Ben Allen railed on about businesses leaving for Madison and Rankin counties? Answer, literally tens of thousands of times. If it doesn't matter then redeveloping downtown Jackson to lure businesses and residents back into the city also doesn't matter.

Anonymous said...

Might want to take a real close look at the precinct level results from Carson's run against Denny 4:02 before concluding that you'll get any traction in Ward 1 with that approach.

Anonymous said...

4:02, you couldn't be any more creative with your lame "insult?" Honestly, even though I had been reading the entire thread, when I saw Barack Carson, the first person who popped into my head was Johnny, not Dorsey. Please try to be more clever.

Anonymous said...

Where's your business(es)?

I have a strong sense that you don't even live in ward 1.

Perhaps, a renter in another...

Anonymous said...

I disagree with Kingfish's comparing locating an office outside Jackson to Dorsey having a client located out of Jackson. Foote supporter's may deny it, but it's a big deal that Foote chose to locate his business outside of the city of Jackson. How can Foote be the "business candidate" for Jackson when his business isn't even in Jackson. Probably should have relocated when Whitwell announced he was resigning. This is giving me flashbacks of the Jonathan Lee Rankin County tag story.

Anonymous said...

Barack will get drubbed. Period. This puppy is over.

Anonymous said...

Yup, it is over for Amile Wilson.

Anonymous said...

Its going to be a race between two experienced, competent, capable, articulate, and well connected people: Dorsey Carson and Ashby Foote. We can't go wrong in Ward 1 either way. We are blessed to have those choices.

Ophelia said...

Ashby and Suzie are two truly fine people, and Jackson is so very fortunate that he's willing to invest his time and considerable talents to a difficult and often thankless job. He gets my vote!

Anonymous said...

But, but, but Wilson said on the radio that he's best for the ward because he has Josh Gregory's phone number and can call on him anytime to help Jackson.

Anonymous said...

Yep and Carson is praying black people from Ward 1 show up and vote for him because he is a Democrat. Good Lord. Ward 1.

Anonymous said...

7:51. Agree. Can't even believe a guy of his stature would even run for this crazy, thankless job, but he is. Got my vote, and everybody I know. Think about the choices. Charles Barbour LMAO.

Anonymous said...

Do some research. Dorsey starts with 43% of the vote just for showing up and Ward 1 has only gotten more Democrat since 2011. Good luck chumps.

Anonymous said...

Which candidate is the slime ball Pete Perry backing?

Anonymous said...

In light of the debate above as to which candidate has the most invested in Jackson, I thought I should note that Amile has spent his entire life devoted to the city and has a wide range of connections. He has invested great amounts of his energy in both Hinds County politics and the arts and understands how the city works. He's a good candidate!

Anonymous said...

Ashby has such a vendetta against the PSC that I'm a little surprised he isn't looking at run for that office.

Anonymous said...

Don't know much about Ashby Foote or Richard Sellers... But Wilson, Barbour, and Carson all seem to have a downside.

Anonymous said...

I bet the redneck referring to Dorsey as Barrack lives in one of those patio homes near the Rez.

Matter of fact, I bet most commenting on this site do not live in Jackson--and even fewer in Ward 1.

But I do and I am voting for Dorsey. Smart young guy; has experience running things other than his mouth.

Anonymous said...

No one complains when a star football recruit comes from another state. We need the best talent on City Council, period. Last I checked, residency was the qualification. Dorsey is just weak.

Anonymous said...

10:11 Not sure your point since all announced candidates are residents of Ward 1. Also, anyone who knows Dorsey certainly knows that he ain't weak. Not sure who I'll vote for, but, in fact, one thing that is consistent about Dorsey to anyone who actually knows him: he comes across strongly. You obviously do not know him. It does not help your guy, whoever he is, to misrepresent one of the candidates.

Anonymous said...

Was Ashby Foote in gone with the wind?

Anonymous said...

2:58
Perhaps you are thinking of his distant cousin Shelby.

Anonymous said...

Hate to disappoint you guys but there were quite a few prominent Republicans at Dorsey's fundraising party Monday night. A couple were former attorneys for either Republican office holders or Republican organizations (hate to be specific since they didn't ask to be mentioned) who simply want the best person for the job, regardless of party affiliation.

Anonymous said...

You are disappointing no one 4:04. Many of Carson's supporters have already peeled away from him, as Ashby hadn't announced when Peolsi, er, Carson had his party.

Anonymous said...

Little surprise the Repubs are attacking Dorsey Carson since they are completely unable to run on issues.

Unknown said...

Welcome to the world of politics.
Good luck Asby. Glad it's you and not me.

Anonymous said...

Issues. What issues dimwit @ 5:08?

Yeah those Dems always run on sound bites, er, issues.

Carson is a flaming, card carrying, Obama, Pelosi Democrat, and the entire ward will be well informed before this race is over.

I can hear him now: "Let's just pass this order so we can find out what's in it!"

He will count on the Democrat BLACK VOTE (how about that McDaniel) and hope enough mush head, white soccer mom and dad yuppies turn out. The adults in the room will vote for Foote, who will always be the smartest person in that room.

Anonymous said...

This longtime Republican hasn't peeled away from Carson and I truly doubt the posturing that "many" have. I believe Dorsey's extensive legal experience in the construction industry will be an invaluable resource on the City Council as Jackson moves forward to address the Consent Decree and begins the process of rebuilding infrastructure via the special sales tax. He'll carry a unique experience to Jackson government that none of the other Ward 1 candidates, nor anyone currently serving on the Council, brings to the table. We can't afford the sort of issues encountered on the Fortification rebuild to happen on a wide scale. Dorsey can help the City navigate those sort of challenges.

Anonymous said...

Yeah 5:33, he and Rudy will fit right in. They will be the Louis Armstrongs of the next 4 years, if elected.

Anonymous said...

5:33

And the repubs don't run on sound bites? Let me give you a few examples: Sales tax holiday on gun sales, drug testing welfare recipients and making sure that every citizen can lawfully carry a gun into church.

Oh wait how about their real substantive platform of "loving guns, hating gays and loving Jesus 27% more than their opponents."

Anonymous said...

5:33 - Carson's 'experience' is in representing the biggest scam artist in the industry - Rudy Warnock. You really want him bringing that experience into City Hall?

As to resolving the issues you name, I would much rather have an experienced businessman looking over all the issues in front of the council, not just someone connected to a crooked engineer and that part of the industry.

The biggest issue that is to be dealt with by the Council is the "budget". Tell me where that lawyer experience is going to help. And with Carson's political leanings, the budget will go the same direction as his meantor's who is currently occupying the White House.

Anonymous said...

Tell me where that lawyer experience is going to help.

Yup, Whitwell and Weill before him were no help when it came to budgets. Ben Allen? Well he voted for property tax increases. Imagine that.

Anonymous said...

Just what do you all think that 0ne vote and once voice can and when you are totally outnumbered on every issue. The culture is totally changed and life in Jackson as it was is over forever..

Anonymous said...

Be thankful Jackson. Take a look at Brandon where the Chancellor put two adopted minor boys from the Ukraine in jail because they politely declined to live with their step mother instead of the step father. Glad I do not live in that Soviet police state called Brandon.

Anonymous said...

1:18
Yes that Clarion Ledger story about Chancellor Dan Fairley of Brandon about the two brothers from Ukraine being jailed is just awful.

Anonymous said...

Had those boys crossed into the country illegally they wouldn't even have to worry about our legal system.

Anonymous said...

Rankin Chancery is worse than just this incident. These are the two judges that ordered the board of supervisors to build them a new courthouse. They now require everyone going into the courtroom to sign in and show ID (so much for open courts in Rankin County). The recent case where the Rankin County Chancery Clerk who was appointed by the court to be a guardian for an elderly man, and was later accused of undue influence when the man named him beneficiary of his estate, was sealed by the court, so the electorate will never know whether their elected official acted inappropriately. Police state indeed.

Anonymous said...

Repubs are Fascists.

Anonymous said...

I'd heard that a lawyer's client didn't have their ID, so the lawyer had to have the case continued. The lawyer was not happy about it.

It's been more than 4 years since Ashby Foote was elected to represent Ward 1; he has proven to be a pathetic public servant. He leads on nothing, has produced no significant change, and doesn't return phone calls. He has no real presence and should be kicked out of office.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
