Salons & Gyms Reopen Monday w/Restrictions

Governor Tate Reeves is holding is daily briefing on the Covid-19 virus. It is streamed below.

* Governor Reeves begged people to take the pandemic. He said "another disaster unfolding." He pointed out American has reached its highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression. Over 200,000 Mississippians filed for unemployment benefits.

* He said the cost of another depression is higher than the cost of broad orders.

* Some areas of the state will require more strict measures. However, he said some people "want us to do surgery with a sledgehammer."

* Governor Reeves extended the safer at home order for another two weeks.

* State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said 3 of the 13 deaths reported today were from previous death certificates.  The hospitalization rate has been "on the decline."  ICU beds and vents are at their lowest level in a month.

* Governor Reeves issued the following Executive Order for gyms and salons.

Today, Governor Tate Reeves announced the next stage for Mississippi to continue safely reopening the state's economy while protecting public health.

In a new executive order, Governor Reeves extends his Safer At Home Order for another two weeks until 8:00 AM on Monday, May 25 in an effort to continue flattening the curve while allowing Mississippians to get back to work safely. Consulting with our state health officials, the Governor also lays out strict social distancing guidelines and sanitation protocols for salons, barbershops, and gyms to begin reopening now to restore the livelihoods of the small businesses owners and their employees.

"The human cost of another Great Depression is higher than the benefit of broad orders. As we work to re-open our economy, that is not a signal that the threat of the virus is gone. It is a shift in strategy because months of making it illegal for small businesses to operate is not sustainable. To the people of Mississippi: I am asking you—begging you—to exercise your personal responsibility," said Governor Tate Reeves.

In this latest executive order, the Governor lays out strict social distancing guidelines to begin the process of slowly and safely reopening salons, barbershops, and gyms, including:

SALONS & BARBERSHOPS:

For businesses:

Before they can reopen, the entire salon or barbershop must be deep-cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized top to bottom. After opening, salons and barbershops must be deep-cleaned daily.
All salons and barbershops are expected to take every step necessary to implement the regulations, orders, and guidance from the Mississippi State Department of Health and CDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Hand sanitizer must be placed at all entrances.
Minimizing person-to-person contact through technology, like mobile or online reservations and contact-less payment, is encouraged.
Salons and barbershops must post signage at each entrance stating no customer with a fever or COVID-19 symptoms are allowed in.
Chairs are to be rearranged to ensure at least 6 feet between each customer and be sanitized after each use by a customer.
Only one customer per employee is allowed in the salon or barbershop at any given time.

For employees:

All employees will be screened daily at the beginning of their shifts, including asking whether they have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days and have they had a fever in the last 48 hours.
Face coverings must be provided to all employees who come in direct contact with customers. Employees are required to wear that face covering throughout their shift and clean or replace daily.
Employees must also wear disposable gloves and change them between customers, as well as wash their hands between every customer.
All employees must be provided training on how to limit the spread of COVID-19.

For customers:

All waiting areas are to remain closed. Customers must wait in their vehicles until their appointment time and they are called for screening before entering.
Customers must sanitize their hands when entering and exiting.
Customers will be screened upon entry, including asking whether they have experienced any symptoms of COVID-19.
Customers must wear a face covering, such as a cloth mask, while inside at all times, unless they're receiving a service that would be impeded by the covering.

All gyms are expected to take every step necessary to implement the regulations, orders, and guidance from the Mississippi State Department of Health and CDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Gyms must close to the public by 10:00 PM each day.
In addition to other gym staff, there must be at least one employee onsite during hours of operation dedicated to wiping down equipment after each use.
All high-touch areas must be sanitized at least once every two hours.
Exercise machines and equipment must be rearranged and.or deactivated to ensure at least 6 feet between customers.
Gyms must post signage at each entrance stating no customer with a fever or COVID-19 symptoms are allowed in.
Hand sanitizer must be placed at all entrances and throughout the gym floor.
All common areas must remain closed.

All employees must be provided training on how to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Every employee on the gym floor must wear disposable gloves to be changed at least once an hour.

For customers:

Did I miss the date when salons/barbers open up? I see the Stay at Home until May 25th. Is that when they open?

Some people have already been defeated by Covid 19. They let it completely destroy their life.

"Before they can reopen, the entire gym must be deep-cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized top to bottom." - What's the point if no one has been there for weeks?

Many gyms went ahead and did that while they were closed.

@3:22 To give a false sense of security as to the safety of opening up a place with sweaty, heavy breathing people. I don't see a requirement for masks in gyms like there is in salons, so the method of transmission in gyms is going to be primarily airborne particulates and aerosols. Tell people the place will be deep cleaned beforehand and then every night and hopefully it will distract them from the real risk.

It's going to be just like that church choir practice in Georgia. One infected person expelling a significant virus load that spreads way beyond the 6-foot social distance radius is going to infect multiple people. Count on it.

Taterhead is useless.

People better break out the old thigh master. No way in hell I would go back into a petri dish gym. Gyms are history.

What is a ‘deep clean’? And what is the difference between deep cleaning , disinfecting, and sanitizing?

Anonymous said...

So here’s what’s going to happen. We have to open business back up or a lot of people will go broke. After we do this the 2nd wave of this virus will hit. This time if they try to shut us down, i.e. Govt Employees who have jobs, the people won’t stand for it. Covid will still be here. So what’s that tell you. We ruined the economy and it’s still here. NY says over 60% of there cases were shelter in place. 41% of Mississippi deaths are in nursing homes. Florida spent there resources on protecting the vulnerable, unlike NY. Handle the problem areas. Leave the economy alone. “I’m from the Gubment and here to help.” Thanks but NO THANKS

Mandatory face coverings violate the ADA. Good luck with that.

Record cases? OPEN HER UP!

Lead by the dumbest people. Man, how does the government function with this level of ignorance? Common sense is so damn rare, it should be a mother f#@king super power.

Hell yeah Tater!

Toe the line.

Security Theater (what exactly was it the T.S.A.was doing with all that low bid high profit low paid help?) now replaced by Republican Virus Theater?

Hold my beer and watch this!

Reeves, where are the cuts to government?

Most gyms today are just a place to send your $10.00 a month. Only a small percentage of people go on a regular basis. The rest just want to say they belong to a gym.

I don’t understand the deep cleaning order. It makes zero sense. These businesses have been closed for weeks. The virus can’t live on a surface for weeks. I’m all about cleaning. However, putting it an order makes him look stupid.

God I hope there isn't a second wave, but the reality is that it probably will. Their are lessons to be learned from 1918, people just need to do their research. The second wave won't be as bad as the Spanish Flu was because of Media. When I go out now I don't see many people without mask. No Seniors or Over weight folks for sure. I think a lot of people just like you to think they are invincible and they need a forum to tell you they're not scared like the rest of us.

@5:10 Enjoy your freedom to stay home and I will enjoy mine to go about life. We are now both happy. Fear is a very powerful tool and it is working on many of you.

"NY says over 60% of there cases were shelter in place."

No. It was a self-reported survey of about 1000 recent hospitalizations and basically the 66% number comes from where people were domiciled. The choices were home (66%), nursing home (18%), assisted living facility (4%), jail (1%), homeless (2%), or all others (10%). It is completely meaningless either for or against SIP, "Safer at Home," closures, etc. Since only about 5% of the population is in nursing homes and ALFs, the chances of infection with COVID is much higher in them than in the other "location" categories. That's not exactly breaking news about a new and surprising development.

We are going to get a lesson about reopening. While all sensible people want and hope that we learn that reopening will be safe, the facts on the ground strongly suggest that we will learn a much tougher lesson. One of the big, YUGE even, problems is that given all the idiots who ignored the guidelines while things were shut down, a reopening will make it worse, ushering in "Round 2." And for those that think "Round 1" was bad, Round 2 will be something else.

@5:54 The post at 3:51 illustrates the mental defectiveness that guarantees the second wave will be just like the one in 1918.

3:44, you're right. Aerosolized germs are going to be the problem in gyms - particularly in a state where jackasses bray-&-spray, pretty-much anytime they speak. 'Yell' and 'Speak' are synonyms, where that bunch is concerned. The virus is certainly not going to jump up from those little black vinylette seats, and into our nostrils or throats.

Really, though, we're all going to be exposed, eventually. As for that eventuality, I would recommend a recent YouTube video from New Zealand: Dr. Simon Thornley - 'An epidemiologist's take on Covid-19'.

I ran the numbers, in my head, as soon as there were numbers to run, and came up with roughly what Dr. Thornley is describing. But then, lots of people have been doing that. Then again, how are certain interests going to peddle vaccines, tests, and "tracking", unless the public is suitably terrified? Voices of reason, are not the sort of voices which are going to help those interests sell their products.

@5:10 - Thank goodness you finally understand what many of us have been posting for weeks. You go your way; we'll go our way. Financial desperation is a powerful tool for people who failed to recognize and prepare for this, like you. Calm down, go forth and do great things, and good luck to you.

I'm actually flying overseas and taking a 3 week vacation to Thailand, Vietnam, and the Pbilippines. Probably going to be exposed to a lot of pathogens. I couldn't pass up the cheap airfares.

3:48 - Sanitizing is when you spray your keyboard with Lysol. Deep cleaning is when you use a can or 'dusting air' and blow out the hair and cracker crumbs from between the keys.

The virus is spread by droplet and with an airborne component. It might live a fews days on a surface. If your business has been closed for say three days, there is no need to clean. Anything. It isn't there.

No one has proven that you can get it from fomites (fingers touching surfaces). It is spread by droplets and airborne. Theoretically you could get it by inhaling what is on your fingers. So wash your hands.

You could rub your fingers into a tuberculosis culture. Without gloves. Most people could then lick it off your fingers. Stupid to do so but you won't get TB. It is a lung infection (99% of the time). This bug is not that different.

Unless you are using an N95 mask, and have been trained on its proper use, no mask will prevent you (at the salon) from getting COVID.

Good luck with that.

7:09 We see what you did there. Haha!

@9:12, Have a good time. Last time I was in VN we had fireworks almost nightly. Got the clap in Philippines (didn't wear my mask as they say) and never made it to Thailand. Not exactly like at Disney World, but hey, what the hell. Be safe and enjoy an actually beautiful country.

Good. I really need a haircut. A gym, not so much.

"Many gyms went ahead and did that while they were closed."

How do you know?

Anonymous said...

This crap cannot nor will it ever be monitored/policed. It would literally require that each member be issued gloves prior to touching the door knob and retrieving them as the member walked away from the building.

And who will be walking around with a six foot cane to tap the members as they wipe their sweaty brow with their gloved hand?

Take a look of most any group-photo from the thirties and forties. See how slim all those folks are. What gyms were they herding into?

Georgia has been reopened for over a week now and has less reported cases than when under stay at home order.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
