On a less sarcastic note: I'm constantly astounded at the nealy complete lack of outrage from the communities in which these killings regularly occur. Have people become so accustomed to them that they simply no longer care about trying to curb them? If so, can you imagine Jackson 5 or 10 years from now?

Seems to me that the Wild West and frontier towns of old were much safer places to live then many neighborhoods are today. Very sad.

10:32 "The Great Society" programs were not the genesis of today's problems. They were a response to the larger problems of that time. Those problems were much deeper and historic. The answers of LBJ's regime were at best temporary fixes for long term problems which required much more than the larger society was prepared to render. To say the "Great Society" is the root cause of this crap is like saying the Civil War was caused by John Brown.

The Mayor has very little control over most of these shootings in Jackson. And neither do the police. But every Jackson citizen, the churches and neighborhood associations do have the ability to monitor their neighborhoods and report those youth who are carrying guns and causing trouble. If you see others up to no good, report it....to the police, your neighbors and others of authority. If citizens will rise up and let it be known that their neighborhood is not going to allow this foolishness and depravity, it will make a bid difference. Organize, organize, organize....and let your voice be heard!!!!!

1:32 PM is correct. LBJ's War on Poverty reduced the numbers of poor in the country to its lowest level in history. It was highly successful and LBJ was a great domestic whose reputation is forever tarnished by the fiasco in Vietnam. He will never be given the credit he is due beach use the prosecuted and deepened an unwinnable war.
The reasons that American society is so base and indifferent to human life is that everybody wants to be respected but not to earn that respect and because the USA has become Balkanized into "communities" whose chief reason for existing is that they hate the other communities. Just my opinion!

3:49 is right. The only ones who can improve the neighborhood are the ones who live there. I think part of the reason people don't report the thugs is fear of retaliation, a very real possibility. The lack of police is in direct line from the lack of taxpayers. I live in Jackson and will not be leaving, but I can certainly understand why so many do.

You say that when you drive through some Jackson neighborhoods you don’t see any police cars. Those would be good places to stay far away from. You don’t see police there because some neighborhoods are too damn dangerous for the police to go into without a large number of heavily armed officers.. Jackson has become a lawless ghetto and it gets worse every day.

@ 8:26, I don't know if I'd trust body armor purchased on EBay - several years ago some shithead sold a bunch of knock-off North American Rescue Tourniquets with windlasses made of inferior materials and someone nearly died because the tourniquet failed. Just like body armor, when you need a tourniquet, you need it to work as intended. Spend a little money, and get an in-person fitting from a reputable dealer. That said, if I ever get back to Jackfranistan, I'll be rockin' my chicken plates!

I feel like everybody commenting on this thread is white. Which is fine. It’s like going to my family reunion some of you are a little racist and some of you are overblown liberals. Some that should be happy are angry and some that should be depressed have no worries. But I would be interested to know what real black folks think of this situation, not rich ones on tv from my but ones who live in JACKSON: why do you think things are this way? What do you think should be done to stop it? Do you think this is a tolerable or intolerable level of crime?
