Desperation....

Long term advice, Whit...take the high road and hope for another shot down the road at another elected office. Otherwise, you'll burn bridges and won't be taken seriously ever again. This game is over.

It ain't over til the Donald says its over

Anonymous said...

That's right Whit. Kiss the rings and asses and maybe the MSGOP establishment will let you play with their marbles again.

Anonymous said...

Front runner usually won't debate, but look at it this way...more people voted against Guest than voted for him.

James Tulp said...

Agreed. Guest has nothing to gain and Hughes has nothing to lose.

Anonymous said...

Actually, this appears to be a logical move by the Hughes campaign. If Guest has confidence in the merits of his candidacy, he will agree to this debate. It is undeniable that the voters would benefit, and someone like Guest, who has been a practicing lawyer, would have every advantage. Guest should readily agree to this.

I don't think Michael Guest will take the bait. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose of Whit could out debate him. I just really hope we get a vicious Pit Bill of a DA in Rankin County. I would hate for Guest to be replaced with a Robert Schuler Smith type.

Anonymous said...

Nope....if Guest is smart, NOPE.

Anonymous said...

How many debates do we need? 14?15? I support the military. 24 county race. Pro gun rights. Help Trump. Why debate?

Anonymous said...

Call it what you will, 6:22. It's also a clear message to the voters that Guest will not belly up to a debate. Just as Hyde-Bryant-Smith will not agree to debate McDaniel.

The game is not over. I find a fresh, outside of the box, and better candidate than someone whose company tried to collect a fine I had already paid 14 years earlier. I reached out to him with a phone call and he would not return my call. Needless to say, I am voting for Whit, of whom I have never met. By the way, how many of the poor "sharecropper" people received the same letter demanding payment from a 14 year old, already paid ticket. I assume out of fear of the retribution mentioned in the letter, they probably went to a loan company and paid the already paid fine. If this is what we need, then vote for Guest.

This game is over? Ask Liles Williams about his (non) election to the Congress in his first attempt. Lead was larger than this one, and yet Wayne Dowdy was sent to Congress.

Anonymous said...

I agree. To put it in terms Whit can understand, this is throwing up a prayer of a buzzer beater.

Guest has no reason to agree, and Whit will take the low road and call him a coward, most likely. He needs to be better than that if he wants to hold office in the future.

Traffic fine debt collection v. 1994 (or whenever) MSU Final Four run. I think at least one debate is in order.

@6:22: are you honestly suggesting that a candidate should just stop running in order not to burn bridges? I'm not a big fan of either candidate, but I think we should at least have a legitimate election.

Anonymous said...

Translation: "Come on pleeeease Michael? I've got everything to gain and you've got everything to lose but let's do it anyway, OK?"

Anonymous said...

Somebody PLEASE TELL whit that locking horns with guest in a debate is not the percentage play.

6:22 here. I’m not saying stop the election at all. But finish it in a positive way with your head held high (no negative ads or personal attacks). I’ll put it in basketball terms that Whit will understand since all I know about him is that he played ball back in the day. He’s down by 25 points with under 2:00 minutes left to go in the second half. Intentionally fouling your opponent who’s way ahead only makes you look bad.

Anonymous said...

Great analogy 9:29.

Why should he not play offense at his stage of the game ?

Anonymous said...

Sadly, 7:56 nailed it. Debates are worthless these days. No substance whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

810... not a logical argument, it's an emotional one. An agency/court had to turn in the information on your ticket, Guest's company didn't pull it out of the air. Maybe your call and arguement should have been with the agency/court

Guest has a very good reason to not debate. It will expose the reasons he never mentioned being a businessman in his campaign prior to now and the very distasteful image of bill collectors. Just ain't what you think would be a good image for a congressman. The Guv and Harper should have known this and steered clear of trying to promote him in the office.

Whit should go ahead and stgte at least one debate near the end of the week preceding the vote, he can stream it live on his website and perhaps Facebook and really strongly promote the event. Then if Guest doesn't show, set up a podium for him anyway and ask way on the questions, answering of course for Guest in a parody. With enough promotion, Guest not showing may cost him the election.

despite being a lawyer, Guest has no debate advantage. He hasn't tried a ton of cases, and the ones he has tried he's had a limited role.

Anonymous said...

Wait... so what were the other 13 debates that they participated in during the primary? heck, they even had FOUR in one week....

"It will expose the reasons he never mentioned being a businessman in his campaign prior to now and the very distasteful image of bill collectors."

Wait a second. Is he a businessman or not? Owning a very successful niche collection service for municipalities seems very smart to me. Is that not a businessman? I know some of yall want to paint it as something it isn't, but the fact is, it's a smart move that any of you posting would be proud to call your own.

"Just ain't what you think would be a good image for a congressman. The Guv and Harper should have known this and steered clear of trying to promote him in the office."

What is a good image for a Congressman? Seems like a good DA and a businessman(yet to be decided by those that don't like him). First think we have Benny Thompson to our west, so there is a bar set to follow. Tell me what he has done? Hell Obama was a community organizer and Bill Clinton never really worked a real job other than being in school and working around politics.

Check out who makes up our current house and senate.

After that first election Harper never faced the voters of the 3rd in a town hall setting again. Rankin County is about to usher in the weakest candidate on illegal immigration.

Anonymous said...

KF you are having too much fun with these guy's names! "Guest" Star Out"whit" :)

Anonymous said...

‘he hasn’t tried a bunch of cases and has had a limited role in the ones he tried’. Michael Guest has been prosecuting for over 20 years. You have clearly shown you KNOW NOTHING about him at all. But I guess you can say whatever you want in this blog. But a comment like that displays ignorance rather than an educated opinion worth listening to.

In most runoff elections, the front runner loses. However, at 45% of the primary vote, Guest would do better campaigning than wasting time with debating Whit, who got about 22% of the vote.

Anonymous said...

Help me out here. Somehow trying to get people to pay fines and tickets is a bad thing? Holding people responsible is now a reason to not vote for them. No wonder our kids are pansy arse snowflakes who feel entitled. Are the ones complaining about this tea party, establishment, big, little gov't or constitutionalist? I'm confused!

Even Ed Peter's son had to do some time and fines for writing hot checks. Lord help us!

The 1st District elected Trent Kelly in 2015 to be its Representative to Congress. Kelly like Guest was a sitting District Attorney (District Attorney for the 1st Circuit Judicial District. I do not recall Kelly participating in any one on one debates. At this point, the debates will decide nothing. On the ground campaigning is more important. They both speak from the same conservative talking points. Rankin County and Madison voters will be supporting Guest.

Anonymous said...

Operative phrase being "talking points". If Guest is anything like Harper he'll go deep on "talking points" here at home and then go to DC and vote as a RINO with Pelosi and the Democrats.

7:59 - there were no DEBATES during this previous primary. There were many 'forums', some titled as debates - and as noted in several comments above they resulted in many of the same questions being asked with all six candidates basically giving the same answer. Nothing wrong with forums, but don't get what we have seen in these dozens gatherings as a debate just because the term was used in promoting the event.

Now that it is narrowed down to two candidates, a well structured, real debate - with interchanges between the candidates - would not only be insightful but enjoyable. A refreshing different opportunity for the public to hear some real answers from the candidates.

It is apparently unimaginable for some of you that honorable men running for office should believe in their vision and wouldn't mind sharing and defending their vision in a debate. You don't think they'd be itching for a chance to let the people know what their positions are, what they believe and their vision to solve problems?

Can you imagine Jefferson or Adams or Hamilton being unwilling to debate?

I suppose winning has become everything at the expense of truth and honor.

What some of you are really arguing...don't tell the voters what you really think or let them know what you know , you could lose because you aren't the better man.

So what if you won't be able to hold your own in talking about the issues in Washington or persuading others? Your party leaders, who don't care a whit about Mississippi will tell you what to do.

Let the parties control everything and just be their puppet. Don't be a leader, be a follower.

To win, be willing to create a mob mentality as that will help obtain a majority. Once you succeed in appealing to fears and prejudices and then control the flow of information and take over the legal and military systems, you'll really be a winner. Those methods actually have worked historically as a means to power.

Look up the countries that have one party control. Look at what happened to countries who looked for a savior and found one, once the savior died. Benevolence ended. Are those the places you'd like to live? If so, be honest enough to warn your fellow citizens of the risks of your plan.

Some of us still believe that if you haven't won on your own merits and by being honest and truthful , you've just cheated and are a loser and scoundrel. You aren't the better or smarter man or more talented man...that man doesn't have to lie or cheat .

And, if your self-interest trumps that of our Nation, then you are no different than a common traitor who betrays his country to line his pockets or to keep his mistakes from being exposed or who is foolishly manipulated by our enemies. Only your betrayal is being unfit and unqualified for the job you seek.

PS Your supporters must know that or you'd be willing to debate anyone, anywhere, anytime.

9:16, the object of running in an election is to WIN. If you just want to tell everybody how great you are, just buy a full page ad in all MS newspapers and tell everybody. Cheaper and less time consuming.

Anonymous said...

I've met both - Guest will, hopefully, win.

Anonymous said...

So, there we have it according to 3:24. Having met two people, he's able to let us know who should win the contest. Is that really the way you reach your political conclusions? You're the perfect example of the voter the 'glad-handers' prefer.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
