Body Found in in Front of Hood Building

JPD issued the following statement.

Jackson Police are investigating a death after the body of a male was found in the 200 block of President Street.

Officers responded shortly before 7:00am after an unresponsive black male was found on the sidewalk by a concerned citizen.

Upon further investigation, it appears that the male may have been assaulted at some point prior to his death.

The discovery is being investigated as a death-pending, while investigators await the results of an autopsy. The identity of the victim remains unknown.

Cl photos show this as being virtually right in front of the Warren Hood Building where many city offices are located. I'll leave the iron of that, outside vs. inside, etc., to the discretion of the reader.

11:36, that statement is TRUE, 5 days ago and today. Extremely rare. I've worked Downtown for years.

If I ever need a boost of confidence to stay in Jackson, all I have to do is come to JJ and read the comments from those who live in Madison. The thought of having to live next to one of you narcissistic, lonely, bitter, old, fat, white, men, is just too much. Plus, my house would look exactly like your house. In all seriousness, I really do feel sorry for how blackened your souls are. You get joy from seeing pain in others. You feed off of it and that's sad.

I'd much rather live in a city where people are murdered in front of government buildings and left to die on the sidewalk, thank you very much!

What happens when you die? I know, you become a lifelong registered Democratic voter.

Most of “social media” is aimed at what you state....jealously and spite.

The sooner we dump our phones except for phone calls the better we will be.

I dumped FB 2 days ago and am slowly recovering.

Anonymous said...

Well we know it wasn't an employee. Otherwise, there would have been one employee doing the actual dying with three others standing over him watching him work.

Anonymous said...

Don't peddle that "downtown is the safest area in the metro" crap. Name me another place where people are assaulted and left to die on the sidewalk.

Oh, wait! It's RARE!

I feel so much better! I'll leave Madison and move my family to Farish Street right now!

Anonymous said...

@12:49 so true. The insecure Jackson commenters come out.

Anonymous said...

Oh, if city employees were involved they would have dropped their clipboards while fleeing and then put in for overtime.

@ 12:06

You left out one more disgusting thing about Madison...it takes money to live here. Seriously doubt you have enough homey.

I like the vintage feel of working downtown and the Fondren. You can’t get that in Brickville where everything looks the same.

Sounds like that's exactly where you "stays".

Look, truth is, we are NOT "narcissistic, lonely, bitter, old, fat, white, men,", rather we are VERY disappointed to see what YOU have done to a city where we grew up as proud citizens. We are VERY hurt to know the streets we grew up on now have the same images you see in war zones.
We use a bit of sarcasm as a stress relief, because we know we cannot raise our children to enjoy the same city that where we once proudly stood.
You say we are " narcissistic, lonely, bitter, old, fat, white, men,"
I say give me one instance where we are responsible for a murder in Jackson.
I'll wait.
(Sounds of crickets)

True Fondrenites don't refer to it as "the" Fondren.
Idiot.

3:07 you did it when you took the tax base and ran down the city at every opportunity

You " Madison vs Jackson" folks are ridiculous. This story is about a crime in our Capitol City and while I have to agree, the Crime rate is pretty high around here... This location is a bit out of the norm. I live in Madison and happily work downtown. On my way in this morning I saw the yellow tape and news crews on the scene...Cannot say I have seen that before in my 10 years of working down here. I like working Downtown and I would have stayed Downtown to raise children if the school district was better. I will support all the local businesses though!

You are very short sighted.

“They” didn’t destroy anything.

“They” lived here in a town where “they” were not wanted and in fact could not live peacefully.

“Your” fathers neglected the city infrastructure and refused to keep the place up.

“You” left for better and newer streets and nicer homes....which is understandable.

“You” also do not want to admit that “you” don’t want to live near a black person. Yes....I know “you” have a black lawyer who lives down the street around the corner....and you bought him a beer. Good for you.

“Your” kids did not play with black kids. “You” did not go to school or church with black people.

“You” are not to blame for economic trends which ostracize black people...it’s smart to not lose money in real estate.

But “you” must see the pattern. “You” must see the cause and affect of decisions made in the past based solely on racial animus.

If “you” cannot see it.....”you” are blind.

Hey "Once proud"...

Tyler Derell Norwood, a 21-year-old WHITE male, was arrested for stabbing and killing Montague Kennedy April 15, 2018.

Christopher Grubbs,a 32-year-old WHITE male, was arrested for shooting and killing Rafael Thompson February 14, 2017.

Jamison Townsend and Joshua Garcia, both WHITE males, were arrested and charged with killing Cleveland "Bill" Mosley, Robert Ivy and Ted McLemore.

While the city's only had four white murder suspects in the last two and a half years, it still happens.

The funniest comment here is the one about money being required to live in Madison. Much like Trump needing to build his own golf clubs, the nouveau riche have built a sea of treeless neighborhoods and taxpayer subsidized strip centers to mimic actual wealth.

Anonymous said...

2:28

They didn’t mimick wrath really.

But they did move away from poverty which in this state means black people.

They are scared to live together. There is such a disconnect between the races it’s hard to enter a single blog post to address it.

Once we are required to rely on each other again we will grow. A war? Economic mess?

Until then we separate and hate and point fingers.

You never know...maybe a Madison daughter will start dating a black man from Wood street....and she will take him to Reunion for dinner?

Or a Germantown stud will date a black girl from south Jackson....maybe a Stokes....and go to Sunday church at First Baptist and meet all the neighbors? Go to lunch?

🤷🏿‍♀️

Hmmm...victim identity unknown. That makes me wonder who it was. No word from Councilman Foote or Councilwoman Lindsay, that's a good sign that they are alive! Phew.

I know none of you will bother to look at the actual precinct statistics for downtown Jackson and downtown areas in cities of the same size and compare them.

When you travel , you won't get the local paper and read the local news section.

You won't read FBI or academic research on crime and criminals.

You haven't read the research on why we are named the most corrupt State in the U.S. because you tolerate crime when it's putting money in your pocket.

But, here's a news flash for you. Violent crime here is still primarily inter-racial and not stranger crime and still is most likely to happen until the wee hours but that's not true in other cities.

If you wander around downtowns anywhere after the businesses and restaurants and entertainment areas close, you are stupid.

But, carry on...keep making it harder for those of us trying to make progress and make your " hometown" what you imagine, harder by exaggerating every problem.

Bad things always happened, even back in the 50's. You just didn't always know about it. The hometown papers did what the Madison paper does, they didn't print every single crime that happens. Crime statistics weren't kept.

But, keep spreading as much fear as you can and don't ever speak well of the good things going on. And, do be as sarcastic as possible since you do it not to point out irony but to convey contempt. The first can be humorous , the latter is to be mean and bitter and spread hate.

I’ve worked in downtown Jackson for 27 years. This is the first instance like this I am aware of in 27 years. That make this event pretty rare. Have there been other events, like car break-ins? Yes, but that happens occasionally in the suburbs as well. Are there home break-ins? Yes. But my house in Madison County was subject to a man trying to enter my house for a burglary, while my wife was home. Our dog ran him off. I don’t live in Jackson, and commute from Madison County, but I feel safe in downtown. There is the occasional homeless panhandler, but that happens in virtually every city in the world. We all know Jackson has a lot of issues and problems. But let’s be accurate about them. The reality is that downtown is a pretty safe environment. And not much different from any other urban downtown in any city. Now, about those pot holes, poor schools, violence in the inner city, poor neighborhoods, etc., complain away.

To all of you who took offense to 12:06's (my) comment about "narcissistic, lonely, bitter, old, fat, white, men" - it was a joke. The last line should have tipped you off.

The entire first paragraph was copied VERBATIM from a thread about Northpointe from last week, because this is the way the sunshine and roses Jackson cheerleaders speak. They really do believe that they are some sort of noble, tolerant denizens and that everyone who left did so solely because of racism. They really do believe that everyone in Madison can be categorized so narrowly and exude bitter contempt for those who have chosen a better QOL. See the above comment from 2:28 AM for a perfect example.

Here's the link to the original comment.

Frankly, I expected you all to see the satire, even if you didn't recognize the verbiage of the original comment.

I am disappoint. (Google the phrase before claiming I can't spell)

No, you are incorrect. No one calls it that. You may occasionally hear someone refer to "The Fondren district", but no one calls it "The Fondren".

I'd suggest you visit finditinfondren.com. (you'll notice it's not finditinthefondren.com). Check out the section on "Fondren History" (again, not "The Fondren History")

You remind me of that troll from a few years ago that claimed to be a 10 year resident of "East Jackson", just east of "The 55".

"You" are typical of the sanctimonious liberal who decries racism and stereotypical attitudes, then proceeds to assume all manner of negatives about white people who live in a different part of town.

"You" are the dictionary definition of a hypocrite.

“They” didn’t destroy anything. = "YOU" DESTROYED EVERYTHING.

“They” lived here in a town where “they” were not wanted and in fact could not live peacefully. = "YOU" MADE THEM LIVE HERE... UNPEACEFULLY.

“Your” fathers neglected the city infrastructure and refused to keep the place up. = "YOUR" FATHERS WERE PLANNING TO DO THIS TO US (KNOWING WE WERE COMING).... "WE" KNOW.

“You” left for better and newer streets and nicer homes....which is understandable. = "YOU" SHOULDN'T HAVE WANTED BETTER AND NEWER STREETS AND NICER HOMES.

“You” also do not want to admit that “you” don’t want to live near a black person. Yes....I know “you” have a black lawyer who lives down the street around the corner....and you bought him a beer. Good for you. = YOU SHOULD LIVE BY A BLACK PERSON.

“Your” kids did not play with black kids. “You” did not go to school or church with black people. = YOUR KIDS SHOULD PLAY WITH BLACK KIDS. YOU SHOULD GO TO SCHOOL AND CHURCH WITH BLACK PEOPLE... NOT WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

“You” are not to blame for economic trends which ostracize black people...it’s smart to not lose money in real estate. = I'M BEING FACETIOUS.

But “you” must see the pattern. “You” must see the cause and affect of decisions made in the past based solely on racial animus. = YOU ARE THE CAUSE OF EVERYTHING RACIALLY WRONG.

If “you” cannot see it.....”you” are blind. = YOU SHOULD ONLY SEE MY WAY.

I was born in the Belhaven/Fondren area and lived there again years after. I can call it Fondren, The Fondren District, or The Fondren whenever I please. And besides, all of y’all’s moms said I could last night.

Main point: there is no litmus test in determining who is “from here” and who is not. It’s all a crock invented by a few angry people wanting to start and be the leader of their own club.

I remember when it was The Woodland Hills said...

I can call it Fondren, The Fondren District, or The Fondren whenever I please.

Yeah, but when you call it "the Fondren" you'll be wrong.

And you'll look stupid, or at best clueless. Think George W. Bush talking about using "the Google". That's how you'll sound.

8:51 am I suppose you would categorized me as a " sunshine and roses cheerleader".
I plead guilty to having been a cheerleader over a half century ago, but I still believe that being " for" something and encouraging is far more effective and productive than being a critic who is always against something or someone. And, it's certainly less emotionally draining.
I've learned that people have a way of living up to high expectations if you help them find their strengths rather than tell them how awful they are. And, people will live down to your expectations. Just tell your children every day how worthless and stupid they are and see how they turn out.

I would remind you that Madison didn't come under attack until they fired the first shot. I know this because I lived in Madison and moved to Jackson for convenience.

I suspect you resent that I'm an overly educated woman as well. I was lucky to have formal education, but that just means I learned that there is more knowledge out there than one person can ever grasp and that self-education should never stop. I know many self-educated people who are brilliant and never have stopped listening and observing and learning. The self-educated do not resent that I'm educated. Rather two people who like learning learn from each other.

I think it's sad that you assume I look down on you. I actually have close friends from all walks of life and I'm aware that bad things happen to good people and life is not always fair. My friendships have lasted over 60 years in some cases and some of those always good people took some bad hits. The same is true for some of my kinfolks.

I'm pretty sure I know most all the women of both CCJ and RH and rather a lot of the CCJ women live in Madison. Most of them spend a good bit of time trying to make both our communities a better place to live. Many are professional women...doctors and lawyers even. Some were born to poor or blue collar families and some were more fortunate. Most are very good, hardworking women either professionally or as mothers raising families and volunteering. Some are insecure and don't always do credit to themselves.

See the thing is that insecure people are the critics and naysayers who aren't "doers" whether they live in Madison or Jackson. They criticize other to feel better about themselves. They tend to be "takers" and tend not to contribute or go out of their way for anyone else.

You might have intended satire but I'm afraid you missed it this time. Satire uses humor to point out bad qualities, behaviors or actions, not to condemn entire groups and certainly never races or religions. A really good satirist will even humorously add a positive alternative. A really good satirists isn't obviously biased but all human failings are targets.

I'm sure you keep that in mind the next time you attempt satire.

Probably a homeless man beat another to death as they are very intolerant of each other. I see them argue and fight all the time while working downtown for the past 36 years. I also know that they are responsible for the majority of the auto burglaries as I review my security cameras at several of my buildings. JPD knows this as I can tell from their lackadaisical responses.
Is there any hope at all to moving the rescue mission, stewpot, brumfield house etc. a little further away from downtown? Could be a good use for the Zoo. 100 acres of fenced property with housing designed and suited just for the poor animals that Whitfield State Hospital is letting loose from their vans into downtown when their 30 days is up. There’s nothing left in that area for them to destroy if they happen to get loose.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
