Homicide Near Farmer's Market

JPD issued the following statement.

Jackson Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Woodrow Wilson Avenue.

Yesterday evening, shortly before 9:00pm, officers responded to the lot of the Gulf station for a shooting. Once they arrived, officers found an unresponsive black male on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

According to witness accounts, a dark colored SUV was observed speeding away from the lot. Moments later, a vehicle matching the description was involved in an accident a short distance from the scene. The driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended.

The suspect is identified as 26-year-old black male, Devan Robinson.  Robinson is being charged with Capital Murder for the death of 25-year-old black male, Roddrick Jackson.

Though some details are known, the motive still remains unclear.

Robinson remains in custody without bond and is awaiting his initial court appearance.

What will this event actually cost the taxpayers, families and businesses?

1) Investigation, trial, incarceration...............$$$$$$$$
2) Lawsuits, unpaid debts, ......................... $$$$$$$$
3) Loss of taxes (one is prison bound, one is dead)..$$$$$$$$
4) Loss of income to children....................... $$$$$$$$
5) Insurance payouts................................ $$$$$$$$
6) Misc........................................... ..$$$$$$$$

This crime and countless others are sucking us dry. It feeds on itself and is a vicious cycle. I guess there is no solution when the culture, politics and demographics of Jackson simply don't care.

Is this part of Jackson considered "Midtown", Belhaven, or Fondren?

855, your post is about as woruthless as has been posted on JJ for a week. And that is saying a lot. Besides your assuming that the taxpayers will have more dollars spent from lawsuits, loss of taxes, , insurance and most all of your list is idiotic. And baseless. You assume that the killer and/or the killer was,a member of the tax paying society? You assume the killer or the killer were financilly supporting children? And what liability does the city have that will cost ir insurance dollars? Obviously could go on, but what's the point?

And, just for curiosity, how much is $$$$$? My calculator had a problem trying to add up your numbers.

Is anyone keeping a tally on the homicides in the most radical city on the planet? We're only five months into the year and I've lost count.

Is there a murder map? I know some cities have a map showing crimes. Don’t know if Jackson has something similar? I’d check with Clarion Ledger but after a few clicks they block you. Great business model.

I posted a link to the murder map but it appears that it was censored. Go figure, and reporters are the first to scream "First Amendment." It is on the MS News site.

Good question, 9:32. Definitely not Belhaven or Fondren. Woodrow Wilson is the northern boundary of Midtown, but the area north of WW doesn't have a neighborhood name, as such, that I'm aware of.

This corner is the intersection of Fondren, Belhaven, and Midtown. Because this occurred on the North side of WW, I guess Fondren has to own it.

My issue is with the title of this posting. This happened "by the farmers market?" Why not say "by Milsaps college?" Or "by the stadium?" Are you trying to justify Doris Berry's move, with a crime that happened well after the market was closed?

Says the victim was suffering. Did they just watch him die? Sarc

9:32 AM It's "The Hood."

"Homicide by Farmer's Market"?

Is that like "Suicide by Cop"?

Did the perp force the guy to eat kale and raw okra until he kicked the bucket?

(Gotta have some levity, given that Jackson is on a record murder pace)

It's just called Jackson. You don't have to compartmentalize it. All areas have the same "problem" effecting it. These same "problems" affect neighboring communities as well.

No 12:50, Jackson has to own it. And it's near the former Farmer's Market that went out of business because no one felt safe to sell or buy produce there. The new Farmer's Market is on High Street, at least for now.

Google the WLBT murder map of Jackson. It pinpoints the locations of all of the murders in Jackson over the last two years. Not one murder has been committed East of I-55.

Wait till you see temperatures breaks 95 degrees & their a full moon. Man, the murder rate will sky rocket!

@4:31 PM I looked up the murder map. What a shameful and depressing display. How can anyone defend or make excuses. Yu can just scroll through and see the empty stares and remorseless faces of the mugshots. I can't understand how my mother and family moving to Rankin County caused all of that.

I carry a can of Wasp Spray in my truck. Wasp Spray shoots out to 30 feet and will blind anyone it hits. Non lethal.

"the area north of WW doesn't have a neighborhood name, as such, that I'm aware of. "

Isn't that "The Miracle Mile", the stretch between UMMC and the Medical Mall, containing the Dept of Health headquarters, that is the location of the scientific/medical frontier-pushing enterprise that Gov Bryant announced early in his first term after visiting the Texas Medical Center for three days or so? Any of those biotech startups turn a profit yet?

@9:01 p.m., I'm not an engineer but I'd bet that a 9mm shot from a gun is just a little bit faster than a stream of poison from a can. You might want to trade that can of wasp spray in and get an upgrade -- just in case you and the bad guy shoot your weapons at the same time. Personally, I like everything about the .357 ballistics.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
