MC parking policy rescinded

The Madison County School District issued the following statement.

Parking procedure changes for 2018-19 at Madison Central High School released yesterday have been updated. As in years past, all students must purchase a parking decal from the Parent Teacher Organization for $35 and fill out a drug testing consent form. These measures are in place for the safety and security of our students. To further increase security and safety for 2018-19, all parking spaces for students will be assigned. Students will continue to park in designated areas based on grade level with only Seniors being allowed to park in the front parking lot. Parents who join the PTO, regardless of membership level, will be given the opportunity to register their students’ cars and select assigned parking places in advance of non-members. PTO memberships begin at $40 per family. Funds raised through PTO membership support all MCHS students through classroom enhancements.

How about that abrupt change in policy? It seems this blog got someone's attention. PTO = Piss Them Off

you've killed it, KF.

I heard they got eaten alive by the parents. Thanks for posting KF.

Bow before the power of Kingfish.

PTO memberships "begin" at $40 per family? Where do they "end"? What do the different tiers get me?

Anonymous said...

thank you kingfish for helping put things back into perspective!!!

Why the drug testing consent form? Aren't children (unconstitutionally) REQUIRED to attend school by the government? Why does said government THEN get to violate the 4th amendment on top of that?

Anonymous said...

Good move. But paying for parking still shouldn't be related to joining the PTO. Parking should be assigned randomly or by first come first serve.

Anonymous said...

I knew once Cory weighed in that the weaklings at the school would cave.

Anonymous said...

This is still a ridiculous policy. You are required to be at school so you should not have to pay to park. The school wouldn't have the money to provide all the buses if students stopped driving vehicles and PTO members should not have priority. I will gladly donate $35.00 to the attorney who sues the school and PTO to stop this practice. What is next? Fastpass so you can get in and out of classes quicker for a fee?

Some dumb ass' head will probably roll at Madison Central as a sacrificial lamb.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if any of the parents who paid the big bucks already will want a refund.

Anonymous said...

Wow. A score of uninformed jackasses get their way and only 2 comments? Geez people. Celebrate your victory! No new projectors, security cameras, water bottle refill stations, or PTO funded scholarships! Your hearts should be bursting with pride for your good work today!

I got the letter yesterday and thought, "Ok, $500 is a bit much for a PTO membership but some of the residents of Madison can pay it, so more power to them." I then proceeded to pay what I could afford, $100 for a PTO membership, and then I paid an additional $35 for the parking decal.

Big deal. I didn't pay $100 for a parking spot. I paid $100 for PTO membership. It was all for my convenience, in that I could take care of it online and be done with it. One less thing to worry about.

My kid can park in the back 40 for all I care.

I DO see where this could be viewed as discriminatory but everybody likes to slam Madison folks whenever they can, so rock on.

I'm just guessing the school board attorney tore somebody a new one.

Secret TRUMP negotiations.

Anonymous said...

Don't give the Fish-Meister too much kredik. There were several movements afoot to immediately address this madness. The people posting here were just bitching anonymously. Others were calling school board members and administration. Collectively, those who care reigned in the madness.

The Board Attorney was aware of this policy when it was set and said not a damned thing. Fact.

I still do not believe the $35 to $40 should go to the PTO. This is county school district property and the money collected doesn’t go to improve the parking lot or pay the sheriff for security. When the parking lot is repaired the tax payers pay for it even though the PTO has collected thousands. When the football boosters collect money it goes to improve the football stadium/program. We pay to park then pay taxes for parking lot repair and security. I cannot believe it is legal but know for sure it’s not ethical. This is what the mafia does. It extorts money from people who have no choice to pay it.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have the budget information for the PTO? I would hope they have one and present it to its members.

Anonymous said...

You have to consent to s drug test to park? Is this blood, urine or hair cutting?
What other rights do you have to surrender? Hope they do not drug test little Madison missies or the carpool line will be empty.

My daughter shared that a fellow student started the petition to stop this ‘plan’. Day 1= 500 signatures. I’m proud of our kids

White people problems. LOL!

I'm confused. Was the policy described in the paragraph below your headline RESCINDED?

As a Madison resident, I think that the fees are a GREAT idea. They should help discourage students who don't belong here.

But the kind of money involved, can easily be spent in one trip through Wendy's drive-thru. People squander far more than that, going to ballgames. Five minutes at the mall, and two items of clothing, and it's spent. Or you might could get six minor items, if you're careful, and shop the markdown racks at TJ Maxx.

People who can't afford children, shouldn't HAVE children. But if people who can't afford children, DO have children, they need to stay in Jackson, where "the village" is committed to raising their children FOR them.

And from what I'm seeing, a whole lot of necks need to be moving back to McDowell Road, where they belong.

Starting senior quarterback for Madison central got caught with weed in his car in the madison central school parking lot after football practice last fall . Got arrested. Got suspended . Sent to detention center . Got suspended from there as well . Was able to come back to Madison central this past week and will graduate with the 2018 class on May 19th. Parking spaces being sold should be the least of everyone’s concerns .

Most PTOs are non profit so there should be information at the secretary of state

5:51, y’all have the wrong attorney advising your board. He must be just cashing checks. A good attorney knows the law but also shares some common sense from time to time with his client.

Anonymous said...

I would like gladly pay $3 a day so mine could park up front. I can’t imagine what is going on in the back rows of the parking lot.Come on people this is not about money.

Anonymous said...

No public school is required to provide parking for students. They are only required to provide the big yellow cheese (bus ride to and from).
Student parking lots are maintained by the school. They probably don't even get money from the district to cover the maintenance and lighting which btw those bulbs are EXPENSIVE.
This was a bad idea but the problem is real. The PTSO needs to find another way to rause money.

I smell a tennis skirt clad Reunion Mom behind this

wrong 9:30pm. the district pays for the construction of and maintenance of all of the schools' facilities. there was a federal court order in place for years to make sure they did so equally.

Interesting that. Madison Central did not make the cut! Maybe focus on academics rather that status parking! Hey just a thought!! Lol!!

Pay for parking at a public high school? Why the very idea! Kids might have to ride the bus instead of driving their cars. Oh, the humanity! Of course when I was in public school, there weren’t many parking places, but they weren’t needed. Only the teachers and staff had cars. Students rode the bus. I get things have changed, but frankly, parking student cars at school is a privilege, not a right in the first place. All the faux outrage is just a little over the top. Who ought to get the money is debatable. But I’m not sure the taxpayers ought to foot the bill in the first place so kids can drive to school and not have to be embarrassed by riding the bus or having Mom drop the off.
Don’t get all riled up. Just having a little fun.

@4:31 I am going to guess you are one of the lame PTO board members who set this in motion! All you did was drive a student body to ask their parents not to donate at all !! You woukd have seen less than 25% membership. The equipment upgrades will now happen because you will see an increase in membership dues!!!

MaggieFromMs said...

Long live the caste system in Madison County!!

Anonymous said...

@7:24 good heavens you are a rambling mess not making a bit of sense! You are misding the entire point.

Anonymous said...

@8:59 it most certainly is about the money. The PTO has stated they dont do fundraiser so this is to supplement their funds. Their membership is down and some of the big donors kids graduated! A parent is sill morevthan welcome to pay the $500,$250,or$200 membership. It just simply means theirvchild will not have priority registration. Its now set that any parent that pays their membership dues at any level will have the opportunity to reserve the “good spots”. A much more fair and non discriminatory policy.

Anonymous said...

Reading all this makes me so relieved to live in good ole Hinds County, City of Jackson! Ha Ha.

Under the policy that almost got implemented, just imagine the BMWs and Land Rovers on the front row that would have gotten keyed. I guess that's where Capitol Body Shop (with the three hundred foot flag pole) north of Gluckberg comes into the picture.

This whole shit-show reminds me of Mississippi State football tickets and parking passes.

4:31...PTO should not be funding classroom necessities. They should facilitate parent-teacher relations.

Now, charging for parking for football games seems to be a more legit fund raiser. Many parents would pay dearly for spots on the far side of the parking lot so they can continue their "tailgating" activities. That place on Friday night smells like the Grove on Saturdays

Anonymous said...

Great job Kingfish! You need your own local tv news station. Wouldn't that be interesting!!!

Anonymous said...

...what a bunch of clowns; the whole district!

Anonymous said...

Just off the cuff my guess would be that the PTO members that hatched this deal are members of the community that would have no problem forking over the $500. So to them their friends would be able too. As long as they kept that set of parents happy whats the problem.

Facebook, Twitter be damned they have nothing on Kingfish.

What happened to the idea that the Parent-Teacher-Association existed to inform and involve parents with teachers...give them an avenue to meet each other and foster a relationship that would lead to the student/child's improved education process?

So, now the PTO competes with band parents who compete with football parents? And each of them has an obligation to collect money and shaft whoever they can?

Anonymous said...

@ 6:53 Brandon does that and does well with it.

Anonymous said...

A private organization selling access to a public asset. Yeah, that doesn't sound illegal.

Anonymous said...

6:53 Who should be funding classroom necessities?

Anonymous said...

6:53 is on to something. Get the Madison Central campus declared a resort area. Then start getting a cut of the profit from all of the alcohol being consumed on campus during the tailgating. Charge for access to the resort area. The opportunities to exploit this imitation grove are endless.

MC just won the Gulf South Conference baseball tournament and is going to the NCAA playoffs!

I refuse to let a small county school appropriate their moniker.

Anonymous said...

Our public universities OM and MSU require a contribution to a private organization for prime parking on campus during football games.

Anonymous said...

The district keeps spending TONS of money, public money at that; then receives federal money (maybe grant money) for food service dept in which they have outsourced to an out of state company that doesn’t bid anything out...hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Anonymous said...

Yep, it is the PARKER VALLEY PTA!

A $40 donation may as well be a $4000 donation for some! Right?!?!

This PTO sounds just like the one in the movie Bad Moms.

The idiot above who thinks people are complaining about the $35 parking pass must've gone to this school. You lack reading with comprehension skills. You managed to rant about everything you hate from black people to rednecks over something you did not understand. Go pop your SSRI, chew up your benzo, drink your cheap ass boxed wine and rant on another blog about how the "necks" are ruining a school that caters to "necks" with a little money.

Anonymous said...

I've been to tons of MC football games and never have I witnessed people tailgating with alcohol. Not saying nobody takes a nip now and then....just that some of you jerk-wads are blowing smoke.

Anonymous said...

Damn.. y'all gonna get Walmart to start selling parking spaces... annually.

Anonymous said...

Wal-Mart's blue spaces are already for sale. The doctors who make money off handing out those handicap-eligible notices are doing that in exchange for cash and return medical visits. Then the recipient takes it on down to the tag-office and picks up her parking permit so she can waddle fifty feet from the front row to the basket rack without blowing a vein.

Sure am glad all of your Jackson Public schools work so well that you can take pot shots at Madison ... All of you people are pitiful ...
Our schools need more money and our legislature certainly hasn't voted for higher funding for statewide education.
Therefore, it is up to the parents in each district to raise the money the legislature finds itself inacapable of providing.
My children would never be in $500 parking places. However, we would be grateful for anyone willing to step up to the plate to give money for the betterment of our schools, even if it means (God forbid) my kids have to walk 50 feet further to get to their classes.
I wish the price was $1,000 or more ...

The hateful venom /manure spewed here from your JACKSON High Horse astounds me.
1. PTO is a volunteer organization that raises money for ALL Madison County children. They are not trying to create a caste system.
2. Most kids could CARE LESS who buys what parking spot. Including my children. Mine will be in the cheap seats as we are at football games, concerts, and anywhere else we choose to go. If they think “The man” is trying to shove them down, they can get a job.
3. The only kids that would care about a spot already have the money to pay for it. Regular kids like ours would reap the benefits along with those willing to pay more. This was about RAISING MONEY FOR KIDS. I bet you get better seats according to price when you go to concerts, college or pro games etc... is all of the world trying to create a caste system?
4. The one thing we should all agree on is that it is time for a change in state leadership that SUPPORTS PUBLIC SCHOOLS instead of courting privatization. With proper funding, PTO moms would HAVE to raise money for technology, needed supplies, etc...

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
