Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
Rankin County Drug Interdiction Task Force/Airport Police Seize
70 pounds of Hydroponic Marijuana at Airport
On Wednesday May 16th, 2018, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Rankin County Interdiction Deputies Chris Picou, Sentel Easterling and Ronnie Decell along with Rankin County Canines “Splinter”, “Wanese” and “Fox” were working a criminal interdiction operation at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in partnership with Airport Police.
Deputies and canines were conducting “sniffs” of inbound luggage. All three canines alerted on three large suitcases. Rankin County Sheriff’s Investigator Brad Smith obtained a search warrant for the bags from Rankin County Justice Court Judge Josh McCrory. A search of the bags revealed approximately 70 pounds of hydroponic marijuana in vacuum sealed bags wrapped in clothing.
Rankin County Deputies along with Airport Police observed a male subject pick up two of the bags at baggage terminal. Officers moved in and arrested the male suspect. The suspect is identified as Mario Maurice GEORGE. GEORGE was arrested for trafficking of marijuana and was transported to the Rankin County Jail.
The retail value of the marijuana is approximately $300,000.00.
Mario Maurice GEORGE will appear before District Attorney Michael Guest and Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel’s for an initial appearance. No bond has been set at this time.
The marijuana is believed to have originated from Los Angeles and was intended to be delivered and distributed in the Jackson Metro Area.
This investigation continues and more arrests are expected.

Where are these suitcases now.--- Asking for a friend
Baliff, whack his pee pee!
Call me when Bailey busts some white boys for moving some major weight through Rankin County. Because only a fool will believe that Rankin County is drug-free; especially considering a total of 65 white people died from opioid overdoses last year in Mississippi. I'll pretty much guarantee that dope is going from the dark-skin drug dealers to the white ones at bargain discount prices.
Kingfish knows this one is worth at least 10 to 15 comments from the legalize marijuana harpy.
They nipped it in the bud, so to speak.

Someone gave me $100.00 to pick these bags up at airport baggage & take them to this here address.
Wow, man, far out! The weed got high, but no people got high of the weed.

Why do I have a feeling you got that from Tommy Chong? LMAO!!!!!!!!
Love how these idiot rednecks think any cannabis that isn't tossed over the border in bricks is "hydroponic".... y'all dumb.
Thanks 10:39. Hope this is on Netflix. A classic I've not seen in many years.
Damn. Gonna be a slow weekend for business and the crime in Jackson is going to be rampant. Again.
does anyone know if the RCSO was tipped that this shipment was coming through or did they just happen to be there??
notice that the deputies in the photo are not smiling. had they grabbed the $300,000.00 rather than the 70 lbs, they would be grinning from ear to ear. the good ole war on drugs, where only the government is allowed to make money.
Catfish, thanks for noticing. That is, in fact, who I was trying to mimic.
Marijuana will be legal everywhere in the next 20 years. Waste of time and resources.
It came from California, where it is now legal to grow. Hydroponic gardens were popular when it was illegal because that is an indoor/stealthy method. Hydroponic growing is no longer necessary.
I learned this from a friend.
I Fly in and out of JAN on a regular basis and I have never seen the "DOGS" sniffing bags. Had to have been tipped off.
The three K-9s were on routine patrol and by coincidence ended up at the airport. All three just happened to be working the same shift - another coincidence.
I have some timber rights for sale.
In the US, the dogs sniff the luggage out of sight before it dumps out on the conveyor belt where you pick it up. I guess our society doesn't want the discomfort of seeing the dogs despite their detective and deterrent effect. If the dogs alert on a suitcase, the cops get into position to grab the guy who picks up the luggage.
In Mexico, the drug dogs sniff the carry-on luggage at the gate as arriving passengers leave the plane, plus the cargo luggage before it is released to the traveler. The Mexicans seem more serious than the US about the flow of recreational drugs into their country.
Think about that and compare it to relative illegal drug usage (not drug peddling) in both countries. Mexico has a much lower drug abuse rate than the US. Why?
So what's the best way to get this into the state without running afoul of the law?

For domestic flights K-9s sniff out of sight so suspects don't panic and leave the baggage area without their bags.
For U.S. international flights K-9s frequently mix in with the passengers who have already retrieved their luggage. They are also used out of sight of the intl. pax.
Mexico has a small middle class and therefore fewer people with disposable income to purchase drugs.
The rednecks in my Rankin County neighborhood could smoke a bong in the middle of the street and law enforcement wouldn't care. Everyone can smell their drugs. Every night, there is a different vehicle blocking the street as random people 'drop by to visit'. Neighbors have called to report, it always gets back to them who called on them. We're done being good citizens. Let somebody shoot them up when a deal goes bad. I honestly don't care if somebody enjoys a joint at home or somewhere that isn't bothering other people, but we can't even enjoy sitting outside because of the smell and noise from their 'guests'. So much for the sheriff's office and Reservoir patrol protecting our quality of life.

Thank you!
KF has made a few posts within the last couple of months about major drug busts in Rankin County? It makes you wonder, how are they constantly catching these people with little resources, but word of mouth?
Eventually, these major dealers will get tired of getting robbed for massive amounts of dope and that seems to be the case with whats going on in Rankin County. Crooked cops doing crooked stuff, it will catch up to them eventually.
Keep us posted KF
