Toys R Us in Pearl closing

Toys R Us announced today it will close 180 stores nationwide.  The East County Line Road store escaped the ax but the Pearl location was not so lucky.

Bet you guys didn't see that coming! The Jackson store survived, while the suburban store is shuttered. Jackson gets a win!

It won't be long before the announcement comes out regarding the County Line Road location.

I call it the Metro Express Exit Train...like I said before, Northpark will look like The Metro Center in 5 years. First, it was the Jackson Mall then the Metro Center and now Northpark area.
In 10 to 15 years it will be the Renaissance. There is no way to stop this downfall.

Slightly unrelated, but a few weeks before Christmas I popped into the ToysRUs on County Line to get some gifts for my son. When I went through the checkout, my total seemed higher than what I'd calculated while shopping, but there was a long line behind me, so I paid and then looked at my receipt before leaving the store. I'd been upcharged $33 for I don't know what. I walked over to Customer Service and let the manager know. Wow, she acted as if I'd just spit in her cheerios - like how dare I ruin her night by pointing out that her cashier had just put over thirty dollars in mystery charges on my purchase, and would not explain what the charge was for or how it got there. Terrible experience and will not shop there again.

Glad to hear Jackson won. It was all about diversity with Madison doesn't have. You people in Madison will be moving back to Jackson soon. mock my words.

Toys R Us is looking at the new Welch Farms strip mall phase 2 off of Main St in Madison

Anonymous said...

There is/was a Toys R Us in Pearl? Since when?

Anonymous said...

@12:48. Mock my words - where to begin?

Anonymous said...

I'm assuming it's the one in the outlet mall...

Anonymous said...

What will PP say when they close down the neighboring Academy Sports after the new one in Madison is completed and opened?

Anonymous said...

and the renaissance is metro mall in 20 years. what's the difference?

Anonymous said...

It's the small one in the outlet mall, I'm assuming. Not sure how it remained open this long. I've only been in it a couple of times but it was basically a clearance store with mostly unpopular junk. That being said, good to see Jackson finally "win" one. This could be the game changer everyone has been waiting for.

Toys r US filed for bankruptcy in September so it's just a matter of time before the whole shebang is closed. They've been struggling for years. Nothing to do with Jackson or the burbs.

Pretty pathetic that the people on here think that Jackson's store hanging on by it's fingernails is somehow "WINNING". Your idea of winning and mine are obviously quite different. I'm sure they'll be the first ones to post about how Jackson "lost" when Toys-R-Us moves.
And Hom Tead, if you'd ever take your ass out of funky Fondren or Bellicose Belhaven, you might realize that Madison is, actually, quite diverse.

The East County Line Road store is pretty nasty and has been for some time.

I got a Ken Griffey Jr. SNES game from that location in the 90's. Good old fashioned clean fun, not like these games today where you earn bonus points for shooting a hooker in the face.

The full article stated that there are 183 stores that are within 15 miles of another location, and that these are expected to make up a majority of the closings.

KF, I've shopped the East CL store every year at Christmas for grandkid presents. Haven't seen anything nasty in it; but that begs the question. Just what Leggo, or Barbie, set have you been looking for while in there to evaluate it?

That's 'cause Rankin County don't play!

The owners of Northpark are putting millions into it. It isn't going to "look like Metro Center in 5 years."

Noel! You WIN the comment section!

Who needs Amazon's second HQ? We held on to a damn Toys R' Us for another year until the company goes out of business!

Jacktown layin' the smack down!

Bought a bicycle there for a Christmas present for my son. Piece of Junk. Never purchased another thing from

Toys R Us

They sell plenty of cheap toys. And plenty of higher cost ones. If you bought the cheap bike, you got a piece of junk. Maybe now you will understand its not the store, its the purchaser - you get what you pay for.

By the way, you could go down the street to the Bike Rack and pay ten times as much, and get a really high quality. Obviously, you wanted a Cadillac on your Volkswagen budget.

North park looks like metro now. Where else would you go for screen printing, incense, or phone repair.

North park is a dump. Good thing they ban guns there.

GOT all my Christmas presents at Goodwill. They have gently used Toys for $1.00, $ 2.00 or $ 3.00. Can't beat the price. They employ people a retail store wouldn't give a second look at.
The one in ridgeland has a sweet lady in a wheelchair who is completely paralysis who job it is to say "Welcome to Goodwill". I'm talking about real people here.

Good thing the legislature passed tax breaks for shopping centers in Pearl and Ridgeland. That will save us from our doom.

Wait....

The world laughs while Jackson and ex-Jackson continue these arguments.

One day last week I was shopping at Academy Sports with my grandson. When we left he wanted to walk over to Toys-R-Us. As we were headed that way I commented to him how run down the outside of the building is. The paint is faded and peeling. I don't think it has been re-painted since it was built. The inside is almost as bad. Navigating the aisles was similar to running an obstacle course. What was on the floor wouldn't half fill the shelves. Sad to see it so run down.

Toys'R'Us won't be around much longer. The model is dead. The same goes for enclosed shopping malls.
Particularly in the South, they're just a magnet for problems.

I can't say the same about JJ trolls, as they don't appear to be headed towards extinction any time soon.

Since when is it cute to say 'East County Line Road'? Are there any stores on 'West County Line'? Well, other than a handful of convenience stores?

I remember when Toys R Us out on WEST Highway 80 in Jacktown was THE place to go for toys. But that was thirty five years ago.

Anonymous said...

It has been cute to say East County Line Road since it was built as that is the actual street name.

Anonymous said...

You more aptly fit the troll definition Messick.

The best thing that could happen to the Northpark Mall is to shut down the movie theater near it. Kids go to the movie there and then flock over to the mall, where they shoplift. The biggest roadblock to enticing good retailers to open up in the Mall is the out of control shoplifting.

Toys R Us is a destination store... a niche business. It should be operated like one. It can thrive on CL Road, because of this. The problem with TRU is their prices are higher than Walmart, which is easier to get to. Even though they are in bankruptcy, I don't think TRU is on the way out. They need better management at the corporate level.

It's funny which blog posts generate the most posts. So many experts on the most unpredictable topics.

(Alvin) "Let's go out to West County Line Road and do some shopping."

(Maude) "What the hell is WEST County Line Road?"

(Alvin) "Out yonder past Tougaloo where they ain't no stores."

(Maude) "Then how we gonna shop where they ain't no stores?"

(Alvin) "OK, let's go shopping on EAST County Line Road."

(Maude) "OK, they got Toys R Us and Academy."

There's a Target on Frontage Rd, but to get there from the interstate you need to turn left on WEST County Line Rd. East County Line and West County Line are separated by I-55. It's not rocket science people.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
