Meeting? What meeting? (Video)

The Pelahatchie Board of Aldermen blew off a Friday night meeting.  The scheduled meeting did not take place because only one alderman appeared for the meeting as did Mayor Ryshonda Beechem.  The other aldermen as well as the City Clerk and her deputy played hookey.

The Board was first scheduled to meet on Thursday night but the meeting was changed to 6:00 PM Friday night.  One would not be remiss in thinking a Friday night Board of Aldermen meeting would be sparsely attended but such was not the case as the citizens did their civic duty and filled up the Board room.  They were even lined up outside City Hall at 5:30 waiting for the building to be unlocked so they could attend the meeting (KF: Kudos to Pelahatchie citizens.)

There was also no agenda because the absent city clerk, Bettye Massey, did not create one.  She recently announced her retirement but has not yet left city employment.  The public notice for the meeting was posted on the front door of City Hall.  However, the city does not post public meeting notices, agendas, nor minutes on its website.

Mayor Beechem said there was no quorum and then spent a few minutes with the city attorney trying to figure out how to adjourn a non-existent meeting.  Watch for yourself.

Pelahatchie has been around a long time.

And never, not once, has there been any interest in Pelahatchie....

Until a mayor who is black is elected.

Now.....there is a need to video tape BOA meetings?

Now there is an audit?

I suppose it could be coincidental.....but....I bet it’s not.

You sound like everyone else I report on. Hinds County Supervisors, Jackson City Councilmen, Madison County Supervisors, Ridgeland aldermen

it's not fair, the Kingfish is picking on me. Waaaahhhh

Well crybaby, let me spell it out for you. The Mayor nor her flunkies have tipped me off about anything. Blame your city clerk. When governments stonewall on public records, the antennae go up.

Funny how YOU have no problem with seeing your city government reported. None of the minutes are on the city website. Public notices are not posted on it. Yet you don't bitch but DO bitch when someone dares to point it out.

As for the drug fund spending. JJ will get the records one way or another. Either the money was misspent or it wasn't. It will be clear in black and white.

What is clear is that info is being leaked to the auditor and to this blog.

People were shell shocked when a black person became Mayor of this town.

Now that the new mayor won’t play ball (and there are ample ball fields there) or refuses to do things the old way....people are yelping about a dead chief and some tickets and some drug money spent a decade ago....and yet the yelpers forgot there is an agreement with Richland regarding drug funds and jurisdictions.

I always think it’s a good idea to check on governments and I applaude you.

But be honest....this sudden interest in this government is at least partly related to the fact that a black woman is now in charge.

If you can’t see that....well....you need some eyeballs.

I have probably been to Pelahatchie just two times, but it has been very interesting to read about the ridiculous behavior of the board of alderman since Ms. Beecham became mayor. Linda Horton has written great, detailed articles covering the meetings in the Rankin County News. As an outsider it is nice to maybe see some justice coming in.

Math challenged @11:57? The years 2012-2017 were not "a decade ago". We get it already, you wanted the matter swept under the rug.

11:27 - I think what the eyeballs are seeing in Pelahatchie and in many responses to these threads is a huge amount of out-dated small town racism. So in that sense, I guess it is somewhat related to a black mayor, and the anger of a board that no longer has "one of their own kind" in charge.

Wanna know why the damn board has such a problem with this new mayor?? It's because she didn't just allow them to continue to do things "the way they've always been done" God forbid a woman come in and have a damn question about something that she is unfamiliar with- ya know, because she's NEW. . . I am in awe of the followers (the 🐑) who'd just willingly and knowingly watch WRONG things happen just because "good people" have done them. Guess what??? Good people do bad things. It's as simple as that. Before any of those funds were spent, the Chief (Kevin Poole) was supposed to have signed off on them. I have a strong feeling that didn't haooen. The board and the mayor (Knox Ross) did whatever the hell they pleased with that money and expected to have it swept under the rug. Some people couldn't see the truth if it was printed in black and white !!!!!!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but MY "Rules of Order" would be to call the meeting to order, followed by a call for a quorum, and failing to have a quorum seated then a motion for adjournment of the meeting due to a lack of a quorum. Period. So I think in this situation the correct "call" was made. By the same token, a seated quorum can be lost by member(s) choosing to leave the meeting at any point during the meeting, resulting in yet another call for a quorum and resulting adjournment of the meeting due to a lack of a quorum. Fun Stuff!

KF might be good if you would look into the "Good Mayor" a little more intently. Folks in pelahatchie don't like her because she isn't from pelahatchie.. Like.... She didn't live there until she decided to run. Her homestead has been quesetioned a number of times prior to her qualifying for the position. Her husbands Facebook page lists his "current city" as Jackson, and her business interests are in Jackson as well.

11:27, tell us when the truth being revealed became "info is being leaked to the auditor"? You make it sound like it's a bad thing for the authorities to learn the truth.

A black politician in Mississippi is old news.

A black elected politician in Rankin county is not old news.

You are a fool.

Seems to me that KF’s biggest issue has been with the city clerk (and her salary). Haven’t seen him say anything about the mayor. Is the city clerk black? If not, then shut the f**k up.

I'm torn between two possibilities:

1) People who typically cry racism or 'it's because we're black' really believe that and their needle is stuck in that groove no matter how many times you bump the record player. They can't get past it and enjoy wallowing in it.

2) People who typically cry racism or 'it's because we're black' don't believe it, play the victim card as a red herring and think when they do that, the conversation and bright lights will go away.

There ARE no other possibilities.

Fact is, Pelahatchie has a black, female mayor! If you don't like it, you have the freedom to move elsewhere!
There are clearly laws that have have been broken and the "good old people" need to be held accountable!!!
Could someone please tell, what is the salary of city clerks in Jackson, Madison &/or Rankin?

To the black apologists: Pay attention! Everything alleged happened before the BLACK mayor took office.

To the Rankin mafia: Uh Oh! This could be some serious Sh*t! I wonder what Michael Guest knows about this?

To the everyday reader of the blog: It looks like KF dug up another bone. This could get interesting.

9:57 - This thread is not about the mayor of Pelahatchie or her race. Why do you insist on wallowing in that rut? People like you want Pelahatchie to become the next Jackson, so everything's gotta be about black people in office. Get gone!

Some of you are new to this website. Allow me to explain something. When I videotape an aldermen meeting, the entire, unedited video is posted although I may add some clips. That means if anyone makes a fool of him or herself, including the Mayor, it's up there on film.

Kingfish said...

WLBT probably started covering the story because someone posted some pretty interesting info on Facebook recently that was widely shared. I started working on this a month ago, long before that Facebook post was made.

Word on the street is this witch hunt audit isn't going the way that Pickerings office wants it to and his office is leaking stuff to various sources, for what reasons I do not know. Also, Betty was going to resign right after the last elections, hell she's 70, but the new mayor made it known she was going after some folks in retaliation for her mothers "termination" as well as trying to destroy the town and Mrs. Betty wanted to stay and help protect her town. She is not retiring over this I can assure you.

I see where this is going. Who will write the book?

The Mayor has set this whole string of shenanigans up. She lives and works in Jackson, and "spends weekends" in Pelahatchie. Heck, she doesn't know a dang thing about Rankin County except she wants to be the "Radical" Mayor of the Town of Pelahatchie. it's quite a sham if you ask me, but it's good to see that the Mayor spends time on this site instead of trying to work with others in her town... OH and by the way, will someone please tell the woman that Roberts Rules of Order does not take precedent over AG Opinions and State Law?

Just cut and paste a bunch of blog posts together, have them bound, call it a book, get your friends to gush over you in Amazon reviews and, voilà, you can run up and down Mississippi speaking to sewing clubs as a newfound Repubican know-it-all bigwig!

Reading this blog and it’s varied responses leaves me thinking:

- somewhere someone thinks Rankin county is “post racial.” That the town elders don’t sit around and use the N word to describe their new mayor. Fabulous space in those peoples heads....utter nonsense.

- somewhere someone thinks that it’s a coincidence that there is an audit and there is a black mayor.

- somewhere someone thinks Pelahatchie is a black and white Norman Rockwell / Williona Woods redux;

Newsflash people.....attitudes in Pelahatchie haven’t changed in 50 years.....go ask for yourself....then try to write about a “moderne” Pelahatchie.

The Mayor wants her own reality show. She's on her way to getting one.

Don’t move your lips.

Welcome to the blog, Mrs. Mayor! Or, is that you donner kay or tommy head?

1) Michael Guest won't touch this. Same reason he won't touch Canton. Too many votes at stake.

2) There is no such thing as 'post racial'.

3) 2:24 and 11:38 is an idiot.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
