Gipson out.

State Representative Andy Gipson issued the following statement on the 3rd District Congressional race.

Statement of Representative Andy Gipson Announcing Decision on Candidacy

January 16, 2018

After much prayer and consideration with my family and close friends, I am announcing today that I will not be a candidate for the Republican nomination for Mississippi’s Third Congressional District Representative.  Although I certainly appreciate the many words of encouragement and offers of support throughout the district and the State, I am making this decision because this is just not the right time for my family, and especially for our young children.

A commitment to run and potentially serve in Washington D.C. is a major long-term commitment for any person, and one that should be carefully weighed with the family in mind.  God has blessed me with an amazing wife, Leslie, and our four children under the age of 13.  Right now they are our primary responsibility to nurture and raise right here in our beautiful State.

It is our sense that at this particular point in time I should continue to serve the people of Mississippi in my current capacity as State Representative for Rankin and Simpson Counties, and as a Committee Chairman in the Mississippi House of Representatives.  At the same time, my family and I are not ready to close any doors for future opportunities to serve the people of Mississippi.  We love our State and its people, and our desire is to serve in the most effective capacity to help make Mississippi the very best it can be.

I look forward to learning more about the Republican candidates who are offering themselves for public service in Congress, and I wish them all well.

Thank God! There is already enough radical fundamentalist evangelicals in government, and we don’t need anymore! People who want to force their religion and morals on to other people is what’s wrong with America.

Thank GOD! Common sense prevailed!

I hope that Rep. Gipson will serve us in DC some day, but good for him for choosing family over DC. He only gets to have his kids at home for a brief time.

Right. We need to keep the damn Muslims out.

But who will carry forth the Lord's teaching in Congress?

"Yea verily I say unto thee, my words about rich people going to hell were really more like guidelines. Obviously, I doth not expect the richest one-hundredth to livest on a mere thirty one-hundredths of all the wealth. But lo, when I mentioned homosexuals in those two verses, I jokethed not. Thou shalt obsess morning, noon, and night over those weirdos and persecutest them to the ends of the earth."

It's bad enough he is a state legislator. Seeing his ilk on the national stage would be damning.

Jesus did not seek an office other than Messiah. After feeding the multitudes--- the people were going to forcefully put Him in office, right? He had to escape to the wilderness. Jesus and the disciples advance the rule of God by casting out demons and calling sinners to repentance.

An unusual coalition of mainstream GOP regulars who are tired of all the officials coming from Rankin Cty
and Tea Partiers who wont support DA Guest who indicted Mark Mayfield is coming together to look for an
alternative to Guest. Jeff Weill and Sally Doty are on their list, as was Gipson. Meeting are being held, etc. we’ll see...

Maybe Whitwul will move back and take another crack at going to DC.

The conceit runs high when press releases go out about what we are not going to do. He is not qualified to flush the toilets in the state Capitol and would be an embarrassment in DC....but had a good chance of winning. That says a lot about this state.

Anonymous said...

12:39, he is better qualified than to flush the toilets in the State Capitol. Probably would be an embarrassment in DC while spending his entire career about guns, knives, and sexual mores. Just like Harper spent his entire career basically on a single personal issue.

But to think he had a good chance of winning, your prognostications must be based on Chism or M/D quality polling. Best he could have mustered would have been 4th; his good deed would have been cutting into the Civil Asset Forfeiture King, DA Guest's Rankin County vote base.

Anonymous said...

Gipson has more legislative influence than anyone commenting here. Bitch and moan all you want, he's moving the ball down the field and y'all have proven powerless to stop him.

Anonymous said...

Don't know the man, but gotta love these press releases that all but claim "I could have had this job but decided to spend more time with family".

If somebody decides not to submit a resume to the HR department, hell, let it go. There's no need to get a megaphone and announce that to the world. Nobody really gives a crap.

On a related note, there is absolutely nothing about Michael Guest's mediocre job as a county prosecutor that prepares him to represent a congressional district. If he did his job, he'd have been after Warnock's ass for the past ten years instead of feasting on the low-hanging fruit.

Anonymous said...

1:24, no one is arguing that Gipson has more legislative influence than anyone commenting here. But, that is influence in the MS House, where his 'influence' is waning with the continual guns, knives, and whatever form of weapon can come next legislation.

He's a good guy, but his form of legislator sells good in southern Rankin and Simpson County. But it wouldn't sell across the district - otherwise, his statement would have read differently. Splitting that vote with the enlightened legislator, Shirley, wouldn't lead to a finish that would place him in third, competing for 2nd. Sorry - the ball you are moving has reached the end zone.

Anonymous said...

Andy and anyone with a bit of political sense, knows that the Republicans are going to be in the minority in the next congress and beyond. Why do you think so many Republicans like Harper aren't running for reelection.

Anonymous said...

Like Hillary was going to win, right 3:07?

Anonymous said...

1:24...wrong ball, wrong field

Anonymous said...

Give him a trophy as JV champ of the church league. But he is smart to quit on that mountaintop

Anonymous said...

Our state and our country are better off for his decision NOT to run. His snake oils sales in Rankin Country laughable. Take him out of that moral judgement atmosphere and he’d dry up like a peach tree in the desert. Passing judgement and hate disguised as Bible beating religion has no place in politics. I pray that one of your kids wasn’t BORN gay and has to experience the hatred that your mouth spews. Your words will taste bitter as you swallow them. Ask Gov Fil how it feels to face that scenario. My God teaches love, not the hate and judgment that you preach.

Perry Parker will be the David Landrum of this race. Former hedge fund manager. Just hope he remembered to vote and can properly identify his own signature.

@11:30 when was Mark Mayfield indicted. Kingfish should offer $100k reward for a copy of a Mayfield indictment. Haters gonna hate.

Anonymous said...

Remember, Gipson had a bill VETOED by the Governor last year because he and his compatriots changed the wording in the Bill after it was voted on and got caught. They are damn lucky they weren't expelled.

Anonymous said...

Andy who?

Anonymous said...

Lots of intolerance on this blog, all by the Christaphobes.

Anonymous said...

He killed the domestic violence as another ground for divorce legislation bc HE decided that the battered spouse should stay w thier abuser,go to counseling and this would strengthen their marriage instead of the "easy way out" by divorcing.I know my Christian marriage counselor explained that when a spouse beats you, the batterer has broken the covenant made with God and subsequently the bonds of matrimony. I understand that Gipson CYA'd by passing other legislation including it in the "cruel and inhuman treatment" ground but I'm still flabbergasted by how disgustingly pious he was about the whole thing

Anonymous said...

@10:08 is that the best you could muster? Before you start labeling everyone who disagrees with you as being anti-Christ like I'd advise you to reread your scripture on judging bc you might just learn something or either get ready to get stoned.

Anonymous said...

11:36; I've gotten right with God and am ready to get stoned. Where can we meet?

Simple test: look at the anti-Christian posts on this blog and exchange the references to race or LGBQ and then post them on to your Facebook page and check out the reaction.
It is Christaphobic with a doubt.

The Republicans don't have to worry about this seat, but in quite a few places they can't even find a credible candidate to challenge the Democrats. They will surely lose control of the house, and maybe even the Senate. Forget about the opinion polls, the polls that matter are the various special elections around the country. Democrats are over performing in almost every case.Even with the scandal, how do you lose Alabama? It's happening at all levels. Not for this seat however, if you want to find a place that folks will always vote against their own best interest, Mississippi is the place to be.

bill said...

You lose Alabama by running the worst candidate since Hillary Clinton. Look for that seat to go back to the Republicans next time.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Bill that's the problem the Republicans always seem to pick the worst Candidate, anyone could have beaten Clinton and look who they picked.

Kingfish said...

Alabama was a perfect storm for Democrats. The Governor appointed the guy investigating him to the interim position. Investigation was shut down. Yeah, that went over REAL well with voters. Total arrogance on display. Then the McConnell wing jumped in and went after solid conservatives such as Brooks. So voters voted for Moore in the primary out of disgust. Then the stories came out on Moore. He didn't help himself with lousy interviews and having a crap campaign staff. Hell, he pulled a Mike Parker right before the election.

It's tempting to think this won't happen again but the same thing happened in Louisiana in the Governor's race. Vitter was toxic and ran anyway. The GOP losers then endorsed the Democrat (and got jobs). How often is that going to happen? But it did.

In other words, unbridled arrogance caused those two defeats for GOP and yes, there is some of that in this state. People who have never lost sometimes forget they can lose.

The old pendulum. Why else do you think Bonesmen must keep their grandfather clocks always wound and in working order??? As if they needed a reminder what their life's work is

Thank God. Andy is responsible for a tremendous loss of jobs in our State as HR people and their executives have stricken MS off the list of potential plant and expansion sites because we have passed a law whose only purpose is to foster discrimination against gay people--who have always been and will always be a certain percentage of the population, and whose sensitivities HR people and executives can not ignore in their workforces. HB1523 is an economy killer, a jobs killer, and Gipson is as responsible for it as anyone could be. Stay home in your cow fields Andy and leave the rest of us alone!

Show us the proof.

8:57 -- Nope, sorry.

Unlike race or sexual orientation, Christianity is a belief system. You aren't born Christian; you choose to be Christian. And every day you review the evidence and choose whether to remain a Christian. Just like communists, Objectivists, Hindus, etc.

You don't get a pass on criticism for your ideas (particularly when you elect people who try to impose them on others via laws like HB 1523) just by appending "-phobic" to your group's name.

Anonymous said...

1:13:
Your point is absurd. Discrimination is discrimination. Please take me up on the test I suggested and post the Facebook link and we will see how people react to you when you attack groups who get a pass from the media. You can attack Muslims while you are at it. If you really feel brave, attack Muhammed on Facebook.

The proof is that Mississippi’s economy became stagnant after the passage of HB 1523 while the economies of the States around us continued to grow.

Plain ol' Catfish said...

@ Kingfish

Come on - Jindal F*cked up Louisiana - that state was in piss poor fiscal shape and there weren't any good results from his campaign promises. The Dems had hardcore brick and mortar issues to run against, all of Jindal's shortcomings.

Now I will give you credit for Alabama and the GOP being arrogant - thinking they can stick anyone in and people will stick with party loyalty. But I will give the GOP credit in Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama - they have a clue on sticking to brick and mortar issues and being progressive in addressing social issues in their states. In other words, THEY AVOID THEM, while these idiots in Mississippi like Bryant and Gipson look for ways to create them and say look at me - I still live in 1950.

Correlation is NOT Causation said...

In other words @11:25 PM has NO proof. Now, we get this 2-strike 2-out wild swing for the fence:

The proof is that Mississippi’s economy became stagnant after the passage of HB 1523 ...

I wonder what effect Gipson's anti-victim of Dom violence legislative wranglings had on the lady who was shot by her husband in Starkville. He had a prior felony conviction. Gipson better be getting his plan b ready when he's voted out of the State legislature. I wish the victims of domestic violence effected by this would run against this self-righteous pious shill. They need our support and We need their voices to stand up to his vile mysogonist venom packaged as being pro-marriage. I don't think the orphans created in this tragedy will be excited to tell people "my dad is in prison for murdering my mother in cold blood, but hey, good news,at least my parents didn't get divorced". This horrible unthinkable tragedy has forever become the life story of these sweet innocent children and their children and their children, etc.

While you are speaking logically 12:12 - that region of Rankin/Simpson County that Gipson represents, shares his sentiments deeply. That's why I am afraid they will keep him in there a long time. Unless district lines are redrawn, I don't see them voting him out any time soon .

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
