39211: Start drinking!

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

Whatever plans our new mayor has for economic development, progress, etc. were just dealt a massive blow with now a week on a boil water precaution. Kids out of school, state govt sidetracked, business having to close for a week. It will cause everyone to think twice about living & working in Jackson.

How about some co-ops that just boil water?

Schools? Businesses? I mean: the priority is to get the water flowing to the Starbucks on Northside. I can’t tell you how inconvenient it is to be forced to drive to the Renaissance to get my triple tall latte.

Thank goodness. I can finally stop eating at the chains in the suburbs.

Unreal... it continues! 39211 always gets serviced first... don't think I don't know why. Hell... us in south Jackson will be last as always...I guess it pays to be white privileged and live in a nice eastover or Meadowbrook highland area and get special treatment. Don't even start with me on well your zip code pays more in taxes. Why would you not pay more in taxes. You should pay the most am majority of it.

I'm sure the Krystal on County Line will greatly miss your patronage.

Water is clean and clear in 39110

Finally! I was having to get my maid to bring water from her house in Madison County. I only drink Vitamin water BUT I didn't want to let my 3 dogs drink it! When I tried to give my dogs the bottled water from Whole Foods they had a reaction! I certainly would never even set foot in Kroger or WalMart. The humanity! Too much riff-raff.

I don't live in the 39211 zip code. With that stated, how about you imagine what Jackson would be like without the tax money that comes from that area?

Also, I wonder if their proximity to the Pearl may have something to do with it?

I bet the 39211 area code is paying the lion-share of taxes in Jacktown...

As a long time resident of the 39211 area code, might I point out that should look before you leap (to conclusions). In my area, we experienced little to no water pressure loss during this even. The city-wide boil water notice was precautionary in nature and actuality because I don't believe pressure in this area receded to a level of concern.

I monitored the water 3 or 4 different days and the levels of contaminants never changed a noticeable amount and certainly did not rise anywhere near the standards required by the SDWA and/or EPA regulatory limits.

In effect, this area was likely never contaminated and it stands to reason it would be the first to be removed from the precautionary notice.

I'm truly surprised because this area has been fraught with yazoo clay issues with water/sewer for years, but seemed to (overall) fair better than other parts in response to the cold weather.

Thanks goodness! I'll pay my property taxes this month with a little less annoyance.

Side note: Our cats absolutely would NOT drink bottled water, said it didn't smell right or something. Thus they've been drinking tap water the whole time.

2:31 is just a troll from Madison/Rankin trying to race bait.

Golf clap to 3:30 #1. I don’t think I could have typed all that with a straight face.

3:30, your maid has a house? Please tell you don't pay a fair wage. New money is so gauche, and this is precisely why we cannot have nice things.

Anonymous said...

Does that mean I can go to the Skybox and get me some lemon pepper chicken wings?

1:18 this mayor has just over 3 years (well 2 realistically) to bounce back from this and he has surrounded himself with the right folks (particularly Miller in DPW) to turn things around. If they are doing the proper outreach to the business community, I think he will regain their confidence and support, which should translate into new investment in Jackson.

The areas that are cleared are not done by the City. It is the State Board of Health that controls when they consider an area safe. They take water samples city wide and who passes and who doesn't is controlled by the results of these tests. Some peoples ideas are always conspiratorial rather than practical.

It's very possible that Northeast Jackson got lifted first because they are closer to the plant. Generally you would fix from the plant outward. This puts more customers back in water more quickly. That's assuming everybody's water comes from the plant near the northeast corner of the Jackson Country Club. That is normally how a proper repair plan would work.

Dear Lord...it’s unbelievable how many of you fall for the trolling on this blog...is everyone commenting north of 70? Learn to read the intent of the message before making comments of your own. When in doubt assume it’s just some asshole trying to give you all a heart attack.

Good lord we STILL have WPS PARANOIDS bitching about the only solvent area of the city that could grow if it wasn't shackled by the recast of the hellhole. .

White, conservative, life-long Mississippian, live in Madison Co., business office at Woodlands, post graduate degrees. The mayor of Jackson has hired very competent people in key roles (especially Miller). I (and ALL in the 3 county area) have a very large vested interest in Jackson's renewal. This mayor is starting like the leader of the renewal. I will support him until shown otherwise. I urge all of us to do so. Serious business here.

39211 used to pay the majority of the taxes. That ended in the 90's. Now, with the exception of a very few, small (and rapidly shrinking) areas, 39211 is identical to the rest of Jackson. It's the few remaining businesses that pay the majority of the taxes.

Anonymous said...

2:31 - Yes, of course it pays to be white and privileged.

Anonymous said...

Y'all are all wrong. The water in 39211 is NOT safe to drink. The city leadership said this so all the white folk in NE Jackson would drink the water, get sick and die. The best way to rid Jackson of the remaining scum.

...Or, could it be because most of 39211 is the newest part of the city, has the newest pipes and therefore the fewest breaks to repair?

Water pressure never got low here in 39232 😂. Keep that over there Jackson. What I am confused about is why they aren’t working 24/7? Kids have missed a week of school. Best believe for that happened in Rankin the water would have been on in no time to make sure kids got to school. Priorities. Where’s the outrage in Jackson???

Anonymous said...

I'll put it in terms Rankin can understand: Old stuff is not as good as new stuff. Same goes for infrastructure.

Here in the suburbs, you know the place all the people who used to live in Jackson moved to, we have running water in our homes. We do not have all of our city water running down the streets. We can actually flush out toilets. How long has it been since anyone in Jackson can say the same?

Wow! Petty much? I live in the zipcode 39212 (JACKSON, MS) and we never lost water, did lose some pressure, but life went on as usual! Thankfully, we flushed toilets, ate out if I didn't want to bother with cleaning dishes and boiling water, etc. So living in Jackson, MS, I CAN say the same! We weren't/aren't impacted much at all! Instead of thinking I'm somewhat "better," I'm praying for those who have been without water or hardly any, since this whole mess started, not feeling superior towards their situation because I've not seen it. Humble yourself.

I also live in 39211 and I didn't lose water... I wouldn't trade it for the world.. I am close to the hospital when on call... only exception is my 3 kids tuition at JP other than that it's fine here... although private schools here are much much cheaper than when we lived in Charlotte 4 years ago.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
