Here are some interesting quotes by Nietzsche:
A man of genius is unbearable, unless he possess at least two things besides: gratitude and purity.
Under peaceful conditions the militant man attacks himself.
He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.
Woman learns how to hate in proportion as she--forgets how to charm.
One begins to distrust very clever persons when they become embarrassed.
Dreadful experiences raise the question whether he who experiences them is not something dreadful also.
In revenge and in love woman is more barbarous than man.
Who has not, at one time or another--sacrificed himself for the sake of his good name?
By means of music the very passions enjoy themselves.
The criminal is often enough not equal to his deed: he extenuates and maligns it.
The advocates of a criminal are seldom artists enough to turn the beautiful terribleness of the deed to the advantage of the doer.
Our vanity is most difficult to wound just when our pride has been wounded.
Where there is neither love nor hatred in the game, woman's play is mediocre.
The belly is the reason why man does not so readily take himself for a God.
Poets act shamelessly towards their experiences: they exploit them.
To vigorous men intimacy is a matter of shame--and something precious.
To talk much about oneself may also be a means of concealing oneself.
One loves ultimately one's desires, not the thing desired.
"I am affected, not because you have deceived me, but because I can no longer believe in you."

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Nietzsche is certainly quotable. However readers should know that Nietzsche's "will to power" philosophy is incredibly destructive. Hitler and Stalin were admirers of Nietzsche. Sadly, much of the drivers of today's cultural change utilize Nietzschian influenced tactics. Nietzsche went insane and his sister sold tickets for people to come see the great Nietzsche drooling and completely out of his mind.
Nietzsche would have spit on Hitler. He had nothing but contempt for the Germans and praise for the Jews. Thought the two should intermarry.
Nietzsche is very easy to misinterpret. See Justin Sledge. Nietzsche would have wanted to know why they cared what everyone at school thought about them.
THIS STUFF IS OVER MY HEADDrooling is good thing when you can't piss.
However readers should know that Nietzsche's "will to power" philosophy is incredibly destructive.
More like "incredibly misunderstood." N. pointed out that people interpret & otherwise shape the world according to their own desires. He is more interesting for his insights into the details of this process than for noticing it in the first place.
"Hitler and Stalin were admirers of Nietzsche."
As Walter Kaufmann pointed out, Hitler's "reading" of N. never got beyond the book titles. (You can easily google Hitler's thoughts on how to read, from Mein Kampf.)
As for Stalin, I am unaware of his having been influenced by N. - presumably he would have managed to be a murderous tyrant with or without a few obscure German philosophical books in his library.
"Sadly, much of the drivers of today's cultural change utilize Nietzschian influenced tactics."
Whatever that means. Have a nice day!
Valar morghulis
Check out “New Myth, New World: From Nietzsche To Stalinism" by Bernice Glatzer Rosenthal published by Penn State University Press. Nietzsche had a big influence.
Per Jacob Golomb for Princeton University Press: "Nietzsche was clearly an elitist who believed in the right to rule of a 'good and healthy aristocracy,' one that would, if necessary, be ready to sacrifice untold numbers of human beings. He sometimes wrote as if nations primarily existed for the sake of producing a few 'great men,' who could not be expected to show consideration for 'normal humanity.' Not suprisingly, in the light of the cruel century that has just ended, one is bound to regard such statements with grave misgivings. From Mussolini and Hitler to Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Saddam Hussein, the last eighty years have been riddled with so-called political geniuses imagining that they were 'beyond good and evil' and free of any moral constraints. One has to ask if there is not something in Nietzsche's philosophy with its uninhibited cultivation of a heroic individualism and the will to power, which may have tended to favor the fascist ethos."
The reviews of Rosenthal's book speak for themselves.
As for Golomb, no one is suggesting that N. is a political role model; he does not IMHO seem to've understood politics or even followed it closely. But there were tyrants before & after N., and the 20th century is replete with explanations for modern tyrannies without having to imagine that anything would have been different without the musings of a prematurely retired, self-published classics professor.
When it comes to Fred, Hitchens, in some of his final words, nailed him best.
ROFLMAO Anderson can't control his need to school the wingnuts.
Valar dohaeris
4:13, you're right, sometimes I really can't. KF knew this post was Anderson-bait ....
Anyone familiar with N's utter contempt for socialism would also be ROTFLHAO at the idea of N as inspiring communism. As for dictatorships, they didn't need Zarathustra for that idea.
(Fun fact: the "superman" pretty much falls out of N's writing after TSZ. I tend to agree that it's ironic even in that book: Z thinks the future depends on the superman's arising, but then the idea of eternal recurrence makes him realize even that is only temporary. But then TSZ is my least favorite N book; loses in translation maybe.)
Anderson wins. And I must say I am surprised KF would take this chance at unsettling his loyal readers, which certainly includes a million pounds of dumb.
12:26 AM, you make a million + one. Thanks for playing though its clear you know very little about KF's loyal readership.
All hail King Anderson (at least that is what he wants you to do).
Hey now, I did not claim to *be* the superman.
12:26, I have to disagree; N. has a lot in common with the JJ readership. The following from Beyond Good and Evil can be taken as a comment on socialists, or Democrats (if the distinction is admitted):
In every country of Europe, and the same in America, there is at present something which makes an abuse of this name a very narrow, prepossessed, enchained class of spirits, who desire almost the opposite of what our intentions and instincts prompt—not to mention that in respect to the new philosophers who are appearing, they must still more be closed windows and bolted doors. Briefly and regrettably, they belong to the levellers, these wrongly named "free spirits"—as glib-tongued and scribe-fingered slaves of the democratic taste and its "modern ideas" all of them men without solitude, without personal solitude, blunt honest fellows to whom neither courage nor honourable conduct ought to be denied, only, they are not free, and are ludicrously superficial, especially in their innate partiality for seeing the cause of almost all human misery and failure in the old forms in which society has hitherto existed—a notion which happily inverts the truth entirely! What they would fain attain with all their strength, is the universal, green-meadow happiness of the herd, together with security, safety, comfort, and alleviation of life for every one, their two most frequently chanted songs and doctrines are called "Equality of Rights" and "Sympathy with All Sufferers"—and suffering itself is looked upon by them as something which must be done away with.
