Rankin-Madison District Attorney Michael Guest issued the following press release:
Former
Canton Police Officer Receives 15-year Sentence for Gratification of Lust
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney
Michael Guest announced today that Lester Calvin Williams was sentenced to
serve 15 years for gratification of lust involving a young girl. Williams will be required to serve the
fifteen years of his sentence without the possibility of probation, parole or
early release.
On June 16, 2013, the Madison Police
Department was contacted by the victim’s mother to report that her daughter had
been molested while visiting Mississippi to see family. The mother had discovered text message
between the defendant and Williams and confronted the child about the
text. The child informed her mother that
she had been touched inappropriately by Williams.
Investigators
with the Madison Police Department had the Child Advocacy Center conduct a
forensic interview with the child in which the child again disclosed the abuse
at the hands of Williams. During the
investigation Madison Police Department were able to identify victims who had
been sexually assaulted by Williams. The
victims disclosed that they had been abused by Williams as young children 30
years ago.
The Madison Police Department also
worked with law enforcement officials in Louisiana regarding additional
allegations of abuse. This joint
investigation resulted in additional charges being filed in Louisiana against
Williams for sexual abuse.
Guest stated, “Williams is a true
pedophile who has secretly been molesting children his entire life. To make Williams crimes even more heinous was
the fact that many years ago he was a police officer who had taken an oath to
serve and protect the public.”
Guest
added, “I proud to see that Judge Ratcliff sentenced Williams to the maximum
sentence allowed by law. Williams is now
going to prison for the next fifteen years of his life and he will be eighty
years old before he is released from custody.
This sentence will assure that he no longer has the opportunity to prey
on other children.”
Guest concluded, “The Madison Police
Department did an outstanding job of investigating this case and because of
their hard we have been able to remove a sexual predator from our
community. I cannot thank them enough
for all their hard work in bringing Williams to justice.”
District Attorney Michael Guest was
sworn into office in January 2008 and represents the Twentieth Judicial
District, Madison and Rankin Counties.
