Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. That's good. I see it's the same guy that did Philbert's ads.
Mr. Max is the true conservative candidate in this race ...as a Republican, I could NOT for another candidate !! Good luck, to the entire Phillips family in the primary !!!
This guy is something else, this is his 5th attempt at this office, ran twice as a Democrat 91,95, and 03, 07,11, as a Republican. Plus, he currently collects a Disability Check from the government, that is a slap in the face to someone who works for their money.
Lester, is that you? He was hurt on the job and was retired. He deals with that issue on his website. In other words, he was hurt on the job working for his money just like you do. Something happens to you while working, I hope no one takes your attitude towards you.
Lester has been taking Hyde-Smith around the state. IMy guess would be that he owes her one for her vote for his "Beef Plant". She was on Sid Salter's program and Gallo also - She said that the Beef Plant was a good idea. And still believes in it. We don't need another Lester "Cull Cow" Spell in that office! Lester would still be running things.
Cute, but as a wife, that he hasn't learned to take off muddy boots is not endearing to me.
Since he's still alive, I assume it's a gimmick for the ad.
KF, if that isn't Lester at 8:35, its the same guy from Pike County that has been spreading this rumor for the past month. Facts don't faze them but most people know the truth here. First place, in 95 after losing to Lester in the Dem primary, he endorsed Charlie Hull (R) and switched then to the Republican party. Hyde-Smith wouldn't switch until last December when she was getting ready to run and knew that she couldn't win as a Dem. Phillips did run as a Dem in '95; Hyde-Smith (don't you love hyphonated names??) has run in '99; '03; '07 as a Dem. And her sister is a Dem elected official as well.
Phillips was hurt while working with FFA students at the coliseum - and was forced to take early retirement (4 years early) after teaching in the public school system for 21 years. He has been drawing "retirement benefits" since then - not disability payments. I agree with you KF - I hope 8:35 never has to face having a career ending injury, he might be the subject of people passing around misinformation about himself!
Has anyone ever considered that Ms Hyde-Smith could be using this office for a stepping stone for a more "prestigious" office in a few years.
Is she really concerned with future of argriculture in Mississippi?
As I understand she did not grow up on a farm. Her only claim to fame was when she marrried into a farming family but yet she claims to be a fifth generation farmer.
Just noticed that Lester's IT guy at Ag gave Hyde-Smithover $8,000 and a Union gave her $1,000. These two things should make the people look closer at her! She was a Democrat last December and one month later announced she was running for Ag Commissioner. Lester's girl for sure. Anybody but "Cow Hyde-Smith"!
Let's not forget the "new" Farmer's Market that Lester built. It's open 3 days a week for about 4-5 hours. Give me a break - Lester has screwed up the Ag Department. He's going to leave a legacy - 1) The Cull Cow Plant which cost us $55,000,000; 2) The "new" Farmer's Market which cost over $4,000,000 and 3) Trying to leave us with Hyde-Smith as his replacement! Wake up people - We can't afford to have Hyde-Smith in that office.
I was undecided before I saw this ad, just not a race I had thought about before, I saw this on the news this morning and laughed out loud, I will be voting for Mr. Max because his commercial is fresh and not the same old same old.
Wow. That's a lot of bashing of a really intelligent, honest and capable woman. Those of you doing the bashing must not know Cindy Hyde-Smith (yes, it's a hyphenated name, get over it 11:07). This position isn't a "stepping stone" for her. She is more than capable of being Ag Commissioner and we should be grateful that someone of her knowledge and business acumen would want to take this job on. She's not another Lester Spell and she didn't support the beef plant. So what if he's endorsing her - like many people, he can see that good ole boy Max is playing the system. Don't think for a minute that Max Phillips isn't scamming the taxpayers of this country by collecting disability (not just retirement benefits 11:07) he is on federal disability - the kind you quality for when you cannot work, yet he is running for public office? Is that not work? I won't vote for anyone who is that dishonest. Everyone needs to do themselves a favor and listen to each candidate speak, ask them questions if you are able, then vote for the one you think is most qualified for the job. In my opinion, that person is Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Wow, is right. How do you know Mr. Phillips is drawing, much less scamming the taxpayers for receiving any payments from the federal government. Were you there when he filled out any paperwork? I am undecided who to vote for at this time but I certainly won't be swayed be some kook who doesn't know that facts.
i am still undecided on this race, but i do know for a fact he draws federal disability. Received proof from someone who has access to that info. That is not a myth or campaign bs. It does bother me that someone draws disability but says they can go to work. If he can do it in a few months seems like he can now also. its just not right. I don't like her former democratic ties so its a tough call in this race! I don't really like either candidate
Is that really all you have? Is this Cindy Hyde-Smith's labor union supporters? It's not some kind of secret Max has been up front with it on his own website, that means it's not a story. Different if it were some kind of cover-up.
Hyde hyphen Smith supported the beef plant and still thinks it is a good idea. It is on record.
I don't know Phillips or Hyde-Smith, but I do have an above-average knowledge of the cattle business. Quite frankly, Mrs. Hyde-Smith's claims of being a "fifth generation [cattle] farmer" don't quite add up.
It seems as though she is claiming cattle farmer status because her husband raises cattle and has an interest in the local stockyard. I wonder what role, if any, Mrs. Hyde-Smith plays in the operation of the sale barn, or whether she would know the difference between Terramycin and range cubes.
While her Justin Ropers are awfully cute, they need to be covered in cow shit at least once before she calls herself a cattle farmer.
I have nothing against Mrs. Hyde-Smith, but the faux-cattle farmer routine is an insult to every real cattleman in the State.
She voted two times for the funding of the beef plant. I would be more than happy to get a copy of the votes that she cast in favor of the beef plant. Earlier this year she was on Sid Salter's program and defended the beef plant. she state "that the plant had been run right", it would have made it. Even with the study that was done at MSU stating that Mississippi didn't have enough cull cows to make it a go, she supported and voted for the beef plant TWICE! We need to cull Hyde-Smith just like we needed to cull Lester four years ago.
It only takes about five minutes in person with Hide-Smyth to know that she is in way over her head.
She told a friend of mine that she has a Japanese investor is ready to buy all of the timberland in Mississippi.
I voted for Phillips last time and even had his sign in my yard. However, this time i will be voting for Senator Hyde-Smith. She will be a great representative for the farmers of Mississippi and for all Mississippians. I can assure you, I only vote for conservatives and I am very comfortable voting for this lady who has served so well in the Senate.
Two very different jobs.
Hyde-Smith did vote for the beef plant and has said she thought it was a good vote.
Hyde-Smith is a farmer because she married one.
Phillips and Reed both have degrees in Agriculture; Reed worked for years as an Extension Agent before being elected to the Legislature. Hyde-Smith has no educational background for the job.
Phillips took early retirement because of an on-the-job injury that kept him from continuing in his regular employment. The injury kept him from teaching in a vocational position; much different from a classroom teacher. Many folks have a disability that keeps them from doing their regular job (John McCain had a disability but didn't keep him from being elected to the HOR or to the US SEnate or running for President.)
If Phillips is elected Commissioner, he would no longer receive his state retirement, just as any other retiree would give up their retirement once back in state employment.
2:56, you must have hacked into some federal computer - or have a friend that has done so - if you have first hand knowledge of what Mr Phillips is drawing. Do you have access to all of our records, or just happen to have access to his "federal" records? You claim to have "proof" because of someone who has access to these records. So far, despite all of Hyde-Smith's supporters similar claims, nobody offers anything to support such a claim.
But even if you do, there is nothing wrong or inappropriate for such on Mr. Phillip's part. He received an on-the-job injury. He has stated such. That injury kept him from doing his normal job. It doesn't keep him from doing ANY job - just from being an Ag teacher in a high school.
People who have disabilities aren't barred from ever working again - although you tried to make that argument to me over the phone a month ago. You just aren't correct on the issue but since your candidate H-S can't win on her own merits you are reduced to making such spurious claims.
H-S is a nice woman, but she is too much in the back pocket of Lester and a few of his cronies who want to keep the cover on the Ag Dept and the few that live under its benefits.
I'm voting for Phillips - because he is (1) qualified; (2) conservative; (3) willing to state his position and stand behind it, not waiting until it is politically popular to make such a decision; and (4) has sense enough to never/ever have supported such a boondoggle as the McCoy/Holland/Reynolds/Spell cow plant!
P
I have read all the things said about Max, His is on Disability and that means he is not able to work. Eather you are able or disable. Max you own me and all Mississippian already. That is not good.
Mrs. Hyde-Smith If you would find in your heart to tell the truth just once it would help. You know nothing about Ag. and never will. Your Education is in Criminal Justice. That is distastfull as for the best.
I think I will vote for the most qualified person running. That will be Dannie Reed, He has a Dr. degree in Ag. Edu, & Eng. Has worked with the Extension Service for 31 years and was a County Agent for 20 Years. He has already been a Economic Developer for the State of Ms. He is much more Qualified than eather one of you. I will vote Dannie Reed.
I know both personally and have for over 20 years. Mr. Max is a fine fellow and has worked with the youth of this state through 4-h and FFA and done nothing but try to help them all. He also has promised state jobs to every Tom, Dick and Harry for over a year for support in this race. Ms. Hyde-Smith, has and does work at the sale barn with her family. Not every day I am sure. I don't believe for a minute that she is in over her head. I am still undecied on who I will vote for, but for now I am leaning Hyde-Smith.
I will be voting for Cindy Hyde-Smith. She is by far the most qualified and will make a very capable, respected Commissioner. Cindy Hyde-Smith is knowledgeable, honest, and trustworthy. As head of MDAC, she will serve the citizens Mississippi well.
As for Max drawing disability/state retirement, he can't receive those monies AND work for the state at the same time. Is he disabled or not??? I've been told Max has said he would continue to draw disability if elected. I would appreciate hearing from knowledgeable person regarding disability/state employment.
Most importantly, the citizens of Mississippi do not need or deserve a Commissioner whose banking job was lost because of questionable (illegal?) dealings.
On a side note:
The MS Farmers' Market is open on Tues, Thurs, and Sat from 8 to 2. ALL the produce sold there is grown by Mississippi farmers. Don't be fooled by "farmer markets" that sell veggies bought wholesale but marketed as 'locally grown'.
Lets get something straight. that so-called farmer's market over at the fairgrounds is a complete joke and clusterfuck, yes, I said that. Defend that garbage and you will get run off of this website. A PERFECT example of what happens when you let bureaucrats run things. That so called farmers market is nothing but a shining example of incompetence for everyone to see.
Anonymous 10:14: It might serve you well to know what you are talking about before making stupid statements. Max Phillips has made it clear that if elected he would give up the disability that he draws. It is amazing what people say when they don't have to put their name out there. Could you possibly work for the Department of Agriculture!!! It is also amazing how people like to tear down a person's character when they can hide behind their computer. We all know that when that is the case, what you are telling is lies and something you and your co-horts have come up with to try to save a sinking ship.. I failed to hear you mention Cindy Hyde-Smith and the Beef Plant that she voted for and that she has said her finger prints were not on.
Phillips is not a real conservative as he claims. If he were a real conservative he would be opposed to another big government entitlement program called farm subsidies.
This one of the few races where we have good people from top to bottom running. Max knows his stuff, so does Mr. Reed. Mrs. Smith has been around farming a pretty long time, She helps her Brother in Law on their farm as well as her and her husbands own. Someone said her sister is a Dem. Well every elected offical in her county is a Democrat. We all know on the local level in most counties in MS. you have to run democrat to have a real shot at winning. Also as to the beef plant, had someone really had the idea of running one and not a scam from the getgo, it would have worked. There are five beef plants on the East Coast and they all have cattle shipped in from the southwest. So put one in Mississippi and cut the shipping cost and you are ahead of the competition. Ran right it's a great oppertunity for Mississippi.
I say all of this to hopefully get people to look at this race. As of Now I lean to Senator Smith, she has a record of serving the people.
OK. Lets answer some of these accusations. 10:14 - you state that he cant draw his disability (actually, its a retirement) and work for the state at the same time. You say that "you have been told "he has claimed he would. I would call you a liar or else the person that told you that fat lie. If you want to try to call me out, produce when/where he has said anything to the kind. Fact is, he has stated, correctly, that he just as any other retired state employee would have to give up his state retirement when he is elected state Ag Commissioner. He would also have to give up his Social Security when he started drawing a salary - just as any other retired person would.
You can draw retirement when you are 62 - and not drawing a salary. If you are earning a salary, you can't draw Social Security. Once Phillips is elected, he will give up his Social Security payments. And as a state employee, he will give up his state retirement.
You state that someone can't be on disability and have a job. That is just factually not true, but the Hyde-SMith people spreading this rumor don't worry about the truty. There are literally hundreds of thousands of folks that are disabled but can still hold certain jobs - and draw disability payments. Disability is defined as not able to do the normal functions of a specific job. Phillips could no longer be an ag teacher - just as John McCain could no longer be a Navy fighter pilot. But John McCain could be a Senator, (or for that matter, a President) but was disabled from his job as a Navy pilot.
Course, your facts are all screwed up anyway. Lester told us that the wonderful new farmers market would be selling MS grown products, unlilke the good one he closed down. Was there the other day for lunch, walked through and at the one place that had tomatoes, there were dozens of boxes labeled "TENNESSEE Tomatos". Guess that good story about MS products sold here didn't last long!
Phillips is educated for the position, qualified, and a true conservative running for the right reasons. Reed is also a good conservative, and has the educational degrees, but frankly isn't running a race. Hyde-Smith is running because Lester needs someone to keep the records closed about the beef plant fiasco, and since she supported it (and said she still thinks it is a good idea), she will keep the lids on all those records so that we will never know what all went on in that $60million boondoggle.
Thank you 6:02. That is the truth in a nutshell.
I pay a pretty good chunk to the Mississippi State Tax Commission every year. And by voting in favor of House Bill 1463 (TWICE!), Dannie Reed and Cindy Hyde Smith both voted to put $38,000,000 (that’s 38 million dollars) more on my shoulders, not for roads or infrastructure, but for a civil rights museum larger than the capitol. Contrary to what popular media and certain minority groups say, it’s not a black or white issue. It’s a green issue. This was a difficult issue that might get you slapped with a label for voting against, but take a look at the roll call votes. There were quite a few on both sides of the capitol who voted against it. They knew it was just plain stupid to commit $38,000,000 to ANY museum in this economy. This was a tough issue and it took courage to stand firm and do what’s right by those of us who go to work day in and day out to finance this state. Both Dannie Reed and Cindy Hyde Smith proved they lacked that courage by voting in support of HB 1463. If either of those two were given the keys to the Ag commissioner's office, I only can believe they’d both likely cave on the tough issues there just like they did on HB 1463.
Cindy Hyde-Smith, you go girl! You have my vote!
Max Phillips has my full support. He is a good man and has the right background.
Cindy Hyde-Smith blew the whistle on the beef plant fiasco, once the facts regarding the misuse of funds came to light. No one will out work her. She has my vote!
I just think it is misleading that when Cindy went on FOX news to talk about her party switch, she mentioned NOTHING about running for Ag Commish. Which by then, she had signed up for.
She made it look like she switched because of the direction the DEMs were heading. BS. She should have "woman'ed up" and admitted that switching a week before the deadline would be her only chance at the office. She made it look like she was staying on as a republican State Senator.
That is why she does NOT get my vote.
10:40 - you claim Hyde-Smith 'blew the whistle' on the beef plant fiasco. I call B/S on that claim. She did nothing of the kind - and she stated last month that she still thought it was a good project. Only should have had better management.....
Well, the management was there when she voted to give them the money - twice. And she never did anything to blow the whistle on it. If you can produce ANYTHING to the contrary, bring it on.
Anybody who ever thought that was a good project was either an idiot or in the deal for part of the cash - our cash. And anybody that today could still believe that it was a good project obviously shouldn't be put in charge of the program.
Phillips or Reed - but no way can we stand to have someone idiotic enough to still support a $55 million junkheap.
In this race I have found that Dannie Reed is the most qualified. I will not vote for a lobbyist so Mrs. Smith is pretty much out of the picture. And how many times has max phillips ran for this seat? 4 or 5 times? How is he still raising money? what kind of promises has he been making to still have hundreds of thousands in contributions. Also Max has been running against Spell but was heard telling lester that he would be supporting spell if he ran again. How do Phillips supporters feel about this? Also, I heard that something happened with his job other than injury and he was "forced to retire" or he would be let go. i am still researching this but would love to know what happened. Also in my research i have found that Mrs Smith has a separate degree that has absolutely nothing to do with agriculture. She is trying to sell all our timber to japan, not develop MS ag. IDK. The only thing i can say about this race is that Dannie Reed seems to be the most qualified. He has the highest degree in agriculture out of all the people running, and has worked in economic development for 20+ years. Also he is a conservative Legislator that has the backing of the tea party. I have heard from many people that he is a great christian man and has worked his entire life helping create jobs and develop agriculture. Also i has researches how this man has voted for the past 2 terms as a legislator, with no opponent in his second term. Dannie Reed is the man i am voting for as ag commissioner of ms. he has facts that show he has been out helping farmers and helping develop jobs and a market for local farms and competition in our market. His whole life has been devoted to working hard to develop MS agriculture. Max Phillips spent his years as a school teacher while Dannie Reed spent his out in the field trying to improve the well being of farmers and hardworking people in MS. And besides, I will NOT vote for Max Phillips because he draws disability. He either is able to work or is not. Dannie Reed is the most educated, most experienced, and hardest working of all the candidates and he has my vote.
Dr. Dannie Reed is the real choice for this job because he is the only one that has done what a Commissioner has to do as a County Agricultural Extension Agent. More than that he has been our there helping farmers, youth, businesses and consumers, then went on to be a Republican Representative in the Democrat controled House!
He is not sold out to cronnies who want to profit from the fairground, or to big industry or to serving himself. Dannie Reed is the best leader for the future and has the experience in service, economic development, and regulation to do it!
You must be a relative. LOL
I would say you were Dannie himself, but your posts didn't have enough grammatical errors.
Maxed told Gallo he was volunteering when the heifer got him. It was probably his own. What is the timeline. He wasnt still teaching, why did he quit, then he did not bank for long. Workd at Suzi s store, some. He has not been working, and he has been loading up on "our" benefits. He should have beendoing something, before he gets out here and runs, because he has no work record.
You don't have a clue. Probably this, probably that. Just looking to smear.
Only one Ag. candidate has a full resume with no years missing, none lobbying, or whatever, none while retired or on disability, working in Real AG.and elected a Real Republican. Dannie Reed.
whatever
