Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Phil sucks. I didn't actually watch the debate, but that was not necessary for me to know this fact.
I missed it, will it be available online anywhere?
Well, watching it would been confirmation for you. He's awful. And if he gets elected, what's the line about 'getting the government we deserve?'
DAVE WON THE DEBATE! He was incredible. I loved the comment he made concerning illegals, press one for english, press 2 and it disconnects.
Phil was overly arrogant, angry and pathetic. Although articulate. He truly confirmed to the viewers why we do not need him as the head of our state. I actually thought Phil would do better. Big time FLIP FLOPS on bragging about what he accomplished with the senate, then turned around and dissed them regarding redistricting. OPPS. Brilliant. Oh and there's the Howard Industries jet.
General Holliday was very impressive and likeable, possibly a ringer for Bryant to take away votes from Dave. That whole minority company bit did not work...
Broadwater, um, sad. 3 new Christian karate jobs? No thanks. DO NOT USE NOTE CARDS FOR EVERY ANSWER. NO ONE ELSE DID.
Ron Williams was a surprise, obviously very mad at the system, but sharp.
Dupree was boring. Obamacare and voter id were BIG issues that probably sealed the deal for some undecided.
Luckett took some big shots at Phil, although I expected Luckett to come off a little better. He has done a lot for Clarksdale. There's is no doubt.
Overall, an enjoyable evening. Better than watching re-runs. When will Maggie run for Governor?
Mississippi College School of law was good place for the Gubernatorial Debate. You have MC run by a group hyprocrits bible thumping racist. Then there is the guys who are running for governor telling lies. I was waiting for a lightning bolt from out of the sky.
Who pissed in your coffee?
7:51 AM you would be the reason I avoid the JFP at all costs. Although, I did chuckle at 7:55. Will post later. Watched the whole thing took a couple notes.
Paul Gallo was on the attack of anyone who called and didnt like Phil.
I was pleasantly surprised to have liked many of them that I had no previous knowledge of. I clearly think that Dave Dennis took the prize. He's a sharp cookie. I do keep hearing about what a great guy Phil is from people that I trust so I know he'll keep a good bit of pressure on things and could possibly win on name recognition alone. I absolutely LOVED Ron Williams. He doesn't have a prayer of winning but I can promise you that someone needs to find a place for him if he's willing to serve in public office. And I really like Holliday. Like I said, it was worth watching for sure but as it currently stands, I'm leaning Dennis.
I too liked Ron Williams, but Dennis is getting my vote. Phil is a "Me Too" politician.
I wouldn't vote for Bryant for dog catcher, but IF I had no knowledge of any of the candidates, objectively, he won the debate.
He was obviously prepared. He gives a good prepared speech. He's a bumbling idiot unprepared as I've witnessed a " I'll just wing it because this group of ladies isn't that important to me" speech.
Dennis should have taken it hands down. He's attractive and doesn't mispronounce words. Some of the other candidates' good points were lost in mangling English. But, Dennis wasn't as prepared by his people as he should have been.Since his ads have hardly presented him in the best light, this was his chance not to look like a handy man and at least, he didn't LOOK like one. His performance wasn't fatal but a missed opportunity to put Bryant away.
Who wouldn't think there'd be a question on open primaries? I couldn't believe that so many of the candidates stumbled around on that one. It was like " Gee, I've never given THAT a moments thought" .Really? They don't vote in primaries? And, what a surprise to find that now that Republicans have clout, they are opposed to open primaries.
Is there really a voter in this state that doesn't hate open primaries...that doesn't hate having to choose between candidates they want to support in various races?
8:28, that has been going on since 2007.... Supertalk does not want to lose those no-bid contracts
Had a lot of laughs last night. These guys were pure entertainment. Even a couple of the questioners School of Radio Broadcasting shtick was funny.
From the notes:
Broadwater takes the cake for talking about kicking ass with karate while praising the Lord and, of course, running for Governor.
Dupree absolutely gets the best quote of the night, "the Government should do what people can't do for themselves." JFK is rolling in his grave.
Dave Dennis - has my vote. Guy is a professional, not a politician.
Phil SOUNDED like a career politician.
Ron William - very close second. Best new word award, "Chin-boogie"!
Not sure what Dupree was talking about when he spoke about drugging and putting ankle bracelets on criminals and then broke into a diatribe about 18 holes of golf. Wonder if they use the anklets to get a handle on where their golf ball landed?
Did Dupree fall asleep at one point? I swear he did.
Holliday and Davis on minority contracting. Smell a story, need to know the truth.
Kudos to Luckett on SLuRP. Noticed the career politician and the rest silent.
WINNER: Broadwater for the note cards, the inability to speak coherently, the rambling on and suddenly stopping, and finally, the fact he made everyone else look good.
I'll vote for Phil Bryant. Like him or not, he is a known commodity. He wont get elected and then self-destruct like Fordice did. If I didnt know anything about Dave Dennis, all I'd know by watching his ads is that he climbs a ladder well. Huge missed opportunity for Dennis. My second choice would be Holiday.
Phil Bryant sounded like a preacher.
Dennis won if you watched the debate, but General Holliday won if you listened (a la Nixon/Kennedy)on substance. If Williams were a little more polished and lost 60 lbs, he'd be a contender. Bryant was transparent and awful.
Broadwater is a ninja!! His response to what he has done to create jobs in MS was that he started a Christian Taekwando dojo.
Luckett, Dennis, and Williams were the best, hands down.
Bryant came off as a little too arrogant for my liking.
For the record, watch the replay of the debate. It is worth it if you are serious about voting for someone to run this Great State.
Of the guys with little or no chance, that Hudson Hawk guy got the most bang for the buck.
I thought Dave came off best. Disclosure, he's my guy. But he looked....gubernatorial, I guess.
In the who gives a damn category, why were Luckett and Dupree even there? They have as much chance at winning as I do.
I'm curious, though: Any Democrats in this thread? The only real question is whether Luckett or Dupree wins the Dem nomination, and the honor of getting his guts stomped in November. What's the conventional wisdom?
July 22, 2011 10:43 AM
If I had to vote on substance Williams won in my book.
Holliday's attack on "minority" contracting without having the facts on hand to back it up went over like a fart in church.
I thought Phil was arrogant and condescending. He reminds me of some of my school teachers from 50 years ago. I live on the Gulf Coast and when he came down for a visit during the oil spill he made the statement "I don't smell any oil." WE ALL COULD SMELL IT BUT NOT HIM!! He said it as if we were all stupid and didn't know what we were talking about. I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When will it be re-played? I wish I had recorded it.
Also, for those of you new to the Dave Dennis bandwagon, tell your friends. Although he's come a long way, name recognition is still Dave's biggest hurdle.
Phil is just not a leader. He inspires no one because of his arrogance and condescending attitude. We need a great leader to follow in Haley's footsteps. It's just not Phil.
Why are not more people upset that Gallo is totally in the tank for Phil Bryant.
If a tree falls in the woods.....
I applaud MC for having a debate with all the candidates before the primary- I haven't seen this done
in quite some time. Dave Dennis did a very good job and so did Phil. Of course it was beat up on Phil night by the others because he so far ahead in the polls. Ron Williams never smiled and seemed mad at the world- knowledgeable but
cam across as a smart ass. then Gen Holiday reminded me of John Wayne throwing his head around- he just needed to say now listen here pilgrim!! Dupree lost me on Obamacare and Luckett needs to know clarksdale still has high unemployment. I am sure the school taped it an you should try to watch it.
1:47 - Dave Dennis is the only one who comes close to being worthy to follow Haley Barbour.
In reality we have had the best run of Governors of any state -Fordice, Musgrove, Haley in a row. These guys were not full time pols. Dave Dennis would be a worthy member of this line. Think about this hard.
Using the word "arrogant" to describe Bryant is an understatement! If you watched on the debate via television, you probably did not see him sit down half way through the debate, face to his right with a scowl on his face, as if to say "Why are you people wasting my time, I am going to be the governor because I'm entitled." I am truly amazed by his attitude! Phil Bryant cares NOTHING about you, me or the State of Mississippi - he cares only about himself! Please give this some serious thought before you go to the polls on August 2nd. to cast your votes.
I lost count of how many times Phil name-dropped Reagan, Fordice and Hay-LEE. He was indeed arrogant. Calling the senate to order was a dumb stunt, but typical. But his brother knows he's a good man and Phil says he once had a company car and a FOUR OH ONE KAY. Is that his way of distancing himself from his 20 year run for this office?
Williams seems a bit of an angry little man. I was real surprised at his articulation although he did little other than throw hand grenades, something he would be expected to do if elected, which would never happen.
Broadwater, well...bless his heart. He did create three jobs. One for himself and two for other family members....Way to jump in there with that resume Mr. B.
Dupree was a waste of stage space, claiming six times that he has created two thousand jobs. Nobody in government creates jobs; and, I can't say I'm impressed that Luckett rehabbed five buildings and built a restaurant with Morgan Freeman in Cotton-Patch-Clarksdale.
General Holiday (TENNN HUTT!) fancies himself as George Patton which might be fine in a county supervisor race campaigning from an old Dodge pickup.
Dennis came across as an executive type. Who among that group do we want heading out on a jet to lure industry to Mississippi? Dave Dennis would be my pick.
As to being upset with Gallos's nose up Bryant's ass....where's the surprise? It's been that way for at least four years. He's about as non-biased as Chris 'Tingle' Matthews. If Perez tells Paul 'Phil's on line four', Gallo does an Italian rendition of the St. Vitas Dance and the front of his grey trousers is immediately dark and wet.
Vote Dave. Phil's performance and cocky behavior confirmed to me and my family, co-workers and friends why we DO NOT need him as the head of our great state.
Please encourage your family, friends, and co-workers to VOTE DAVE DENNIS.
There will be a lot of anti-Phil voters casting their vote. Ask any friend of Charlie Ross. In addition, the large number of un- happy democrats voting in the GOP primary. The division/campaign between Hewes and little tate will increase turnout.
Don't forget what happened in Alabama. Bentley was considered the underdog and is now the Governor.
PS. Boycott GALLO. He is a biased joke and a puppet(in my opinion). I'd suggest JACKFM, even NPR or radio silence for your morning commute. It's surprisingly theraputic.
Watching the debate on Thursday evening, either from the comfort of your home or in the audience at the Mississippi College School of Law, one thing was perfectly clear: There was one man on that platform who stood head and shoulders above the others, one man who is a businessman, a leader, a job creator and a man who has the intelligence to get the job done. This individual is poised and ready to take the helm of the State of Mississippi in January 2012 and carry it forward. If you want a new day in Mississippi as so many of us do, please cast your vote for DAVE DENNIS on Tuesday, August 2nd.
If Phil did so bad, why is everyone claiming he will be the nest governor?
Also, I lived in Hattiesburg with DuPree since day one of his administration.
I don't want to see him run the state into the ground the way he did Hattiesburg.
I don't care for Dupree and damn sure don't want to see the druggies and mortgage fraudsters that hang around him in Hattiesburg following him to Jackson.
Yes, there IS life after Gallo. If you haven't heard, he 'grew up on a cotton patch in Shaw'. He says that as often as John Kerry touted his Vietnam stint. Can anybody tell me about this supposed 17 year career in the private sector Bryant claims he had circa 1986 when he went to visit Ronald Reagan? PS: He had a company carr and a Four OHHH ONE KAYE.
Adam, I do not believe everyone is claiming Bryant will be governor - Bryant, is claiming he will be governor; even more, he believes he is "entitled" to become governor! I believe that is right up there with "being a legend in your own mind."
And to Shadowfax: I keep hearing about Bryant's career in the private sector as well - I do not know when it could have happened - In the mid-eighties he was with the Hinds County Sheriff's Dept.; several years later, he ran for state representative from Rankin County - there was not a seventeen year span between the two. We know he does not understand "fiscal", maybe he cannot count as well!
I was standing right behind Phil at a party this week and heard him snickering with a guy who said he had it "wrapped up". King Bryant was holding court. Instead of walking around talking to folks, he stood in a corner and waited for his subjects to approach him.
Phil Bryant will be the next Governor, and that is unfortunate. He has little understanding of policy and is a populist (no principle). The arrogance and condescension that has been identified in this thread exists, but it is unwarranted. The reality is that if Phil didn't get elected Governor, he'd have nothing else to do. Perhaps that should be the deciding factor: what would a candidate do if he lost? Or, what is the candidate qualified to do other than being Governor? In Phil's case, the answer is scary.
Now, for the unfortunate part. Phil has incredible name ID and most Mississippians aren't watching debates or parsing issues. What Phil lacks in intelligence, he makes up for with fake campaign smiles and an "aw shucks" personality that appeals to a lot of folks. Phil has benefited from a herd mentality where people are scared to break away. Lastly, Dave has run a poor campaign. He had a chance to be the fresh face, but he just has not been dynamic. He's still stuck in introductory mode a week before the primary.
The only chance Dave has is to get into a runoff and then dump a LOT of his own money into TV. I don't see either of those things happening.
Oh, and it's not that Gallo is in the tank for Phil, necessarily. It may be that Gallo's employer is in tank for Phil. In the same way that they are now in the tank for Billy (who will be Phil's lackey if elected).
cannot believe wlbt poll chose dupree as winner!
Hey Y'all
I do need to lose about 40 lbs. If I seem angry, it is only because of my passion for honest governments. Yes, I will "throw grenades" at corruption, and wasteful spending of taxpayers money. I don't know what you do for a living, but I work. I have seen Mississippians lose jobs due to our State Govt. I have heard Educators when they tell us they are not getting the money allocated for them. If indeed you think I am angry, then why aren't you? To many political types, this is just a game to see who is going to lead the status quo of Govt. mismanaqement. For me it's about repairing a system that has been failing since Fordice left.
