Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, approximately 11:32 PM, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Alpine Mobile Home Park just off of Old Fannin Road near the Reservoir for a possible home invasion.
Upon arrival deputies learned that the homeowner had been awakened to Charles Beretta Lovorn Jr banging on her front door. When she refused to open the door, Lovorn broke the window in the front door, reached inside, and unlocked the front door then entered. Once inside a verbal altercation ensued between both parties and during this time Lovorn began to break multiple items within the living room of the residence. At a point during the incident, he left the residence retrieved a 9mm handgun and is alleged to have discharged two rounds then fled the area.
While investigators with the sheriff’s office were processing the scene for evidence and interviewing the victim, deputies were canvassing the area for Lovorn’s vehicle. A B.O.L.O. had also been transmitted to other agencies in Rankin County to be on the lookout for Lovorn’s and his vehicle.
Approximately 01:03 AM a deputy with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office located Lovorn’s vehicle at the Lakeshore Pointe Apartment complex just north of Spillway Road. Information was obtained that led law enforcement to believe that Lovorn was residing in one of the apartment units. When deputies made initial contact with Lovorn he refused to exit the apartment and surrender which lead to a short standoff. While arrest and search warrants were being drafted, negotiations commenced and a short time later Lovorn surrendered to deputies with the patrol division and was arrested for Burglary, Malicious Mischief, and Discharging a Firearm within a plated subdivision (Rankin County Ordinance Violation).
He was transported to the Rankin County Detention Center where he remains on a $170,000 bond.

Drug-induced nonsense involving trailer park dwellers in Rankin County?
Otherwise known as Wednesday.
Wish those Madison County thugs would stay on their side of the reservoir.
thank god for the rankin co sheriffs office . if the citizens at the reservoir had only the the tattooed teeny-boppers and the incompetent bozos of the reservoir patrol to call ,things would be worse than they are now.
He was conducting business.
Attention criminals: do the crime in Hinds county. You will not be caught or prosecuted. Rankin county will find you, arrest you and send you to jail. You also have a lot of blue cities to do crime in that will welcome you with open arms.
He doesn't seem to be too into the methead trade? Looks healthy.
Wasn't once an EMT and a police officer for Ridgeland at one time?
Not a Meth Head, nor is it the Yellow Croc wearing goofball. This has domestic trouble with emotions running out of control written all over it...
Sounds like ole boy can't take "no" from a female if I am guessing.
I would have been so scared. The lack of impulse control for some men is terrifying. This little Todd Mardis needs to be stopped now. Not later.
They are going to have to expand the jail in Rankin County. Unfortunately crime is on the rise there.
