It's been 90 years since a true Saint of Jackson passed away. Dr. Julius Crisler, loved by many, forgotten by few. The obituaries describe a life well-lived and a reward well-earned. The Clarion-Ledger eulogized him on September 14, 1935.
Dr. Crisler did not reflect the prevailing views of the white community of his time as his will directed the sale of his possessions and give the money gained to the poor - black and white.
Indeed, the black community honored Dr. Crisler.
How beloved was Dr. Crisler? Jackson women memorialized him through poetry published in the newspaper.
Even after his passing, Dr. Crisler's name looked over Jackson as it was used to push a school bond issue a year later.

Almighty God gave him talent and free will. He fully utilized those talents to the benefit of many.
He would be considered "woke" by many people today. What a real shame.
He was friends with the Mayo brothers of Mayo Clinic fame. Vacationed with them up in Minnehaha.
