Charred

Well, at least they weren't barefoot as one diner was at Taste Italian Friday night.

The fatigue is getting real.

That’s where Chokwe likes to patronize. Haven’t been in the place since I learned that’s where he likes to hang out. Can’t support a place that allows him and his ilk to run free. You want Jackson to do/be better, sometimes you have to call a spade a spade and tell them no thanks.

Anonymous said...

Just start trespassing people for infractions against common decency. People in Jackson facing accountability for their actions are going to call you racist anyway might as well be able to eat in peace and quiet.

Anonymous said...

Translation please.

Anyone remember seafood revolution in renaissance? The lady threw a drink at another woman and a brawl started. Ridgeland pd showed up but the bar area was wrecked already and they still made us pay our bill. I’ll never forget that night.

Yes, the fatigue of the incessant message "error in video. please try again later" is rather tiresome.

Meanwhile: Hit Drago's next, if you really want to see where the in crowd hangs. Parking spots have become available since City of Jackson vehicles aren't so abundant with new administration.

Char has a small sign when you walk in that states its dress code policy. What a joke!! I quit dining in because of people in flip flops, workout tights, T shirts, etc ! My wife and I went to Sunday Brunch after Church one Sunday. Half the people were not dressed for Church but more like street gang clothes and Gym shorts with tank tops and tennis shoes. When did wearing hats inside at restaurants become the cool thing. My parents would never have let me wear a cap inside especially while dining!
Remember a few years back when Julie Koestler turned away a family because the daughter was not dressed appropriately? She caught alot of crap on social media but the people that frequent Koestler's were very supportive because she enforced their standards! She kept their business from turning into a fiasco like this!!
Char has good food but the dining experience has gone to the dogs!!

Just curious
What was the issue here? Why the scuffle?

The metro would be a good place to try a new concept tailored for the culture: Dine, Drama and Discord. It’s a new Triple D hit! Let Rita Brent host as the new Guy Fieri.

Anonymous said...

I guess we're adding Char to the list of Jackson restaurants that "used to be nice". The inevitability of it is a shame.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for this PowerPoint presentation

Chahs. A restaurant for the people you don't want to act like.

Anonymous said...

I can’t tell what’s going on. Security is right outside. Folks get loud they should get escorted out of the building and never let back in. Thats the key.

Anonymous said...

If you are my age and lived in Jackson when it happened, you know this as the Bennigan's problem. Not that Bennigan's is a restaurant I care about at all but this is the first restaurant I saw this happen to.

Anonymous said...

And the more Black the clientele, the worse the tips get (I get it, the truth is racist). Then you lose the decent waiters (already a problem in the Jackson area) and the service gets bad. It's a vicious cycle. The next thing you know, the restaurant is closed.

Anonymous said...

@1:06, Taste is not in Jackson. Try again.

Anonymous said...

I did not know Motorola Razors were still being used

Anonymous said...

@8:43. It’s not only the restaurants. You should have seen the grand opening of Aldi in Ridgeland last Thursday. I drove through the parking lot and it was a few Madison county tags. The majority were Hinds county folks with a line a mile long down the side of the building, some sitting in chairs waiting for the free goodies being passed out. When you don’t have a job and rely on welfare you have lots of time to camp out in Aldi’s parking lot waiting for the freebies. Nothing racist about it. It is what it is.
Same goes for Walk-Ons.

smokie said...

Please no. Love Char. Cmon people take it outside at least. But many are right prosecute and make them pay for any damage and tip some of the best waiters and waitresses anywhere.

Anonymous said...

No one wants to dine with classlessness

Anonymous said...

Char is the best. Some of the crowd is lacking manners. Used to see David Archie there regularly but haven't lately since LuDumba is history. Hate that this happened to them. I bet the Sheriff who's a patron will do something to cut this crap out!

Anonymous said...

Stopped going to Char several years ago!

Anonymous said...

Well played.

No one wants to dine with racists.

Taste - Don't think it will last. Went there Sunday. Had a reservation. Still took over an hour to get food - a pizza, a salad, a burger, and three sandwiches. They informed me a half hour after I ordered that I needed to change my order because they were out of Italian beef. They had one waitress serving the whole bar area. Drink refills were very slow. The food was nothing special.

Anonymous said...

I love _________, we never have this issue and it is always 100%. Only one doing much talking beside the wait staff is the owner bringing me some rolls to harvest the buttery shrimp sauce cause it would be a shame to not have it. I will be there again before the month is up.

Anonymous said...

The last time I ate at Char it was so loud I couldn't hear myself think. Haven't been there in years and won't be back.

Anonymous said...

One video of who knows what and all the hate.

Anonymous said...

Just add a $ 25.00 cover charge (paid upon entry) and that'll solve the problem.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it's really classy in Rankin Co. LOL

Anonymous said...

Saltine. Same problem.

If more than 3 vehicles are backed into parking spaces I keep driving

It's not the COLOR; it's the CULTURE.

There are those on both sides of the fence who don't want to separate the two: Some believe that anyone of a certain color must espouse the dysfunctional culture, but there are also those who argue that any criticism of a certain culture is an attack on the color.

Some cultures are superior to other cultures and generate better outcomes. People of any color/ethnicity can choose honesty, decency and respect. Likewise, people of any color/ethnicity can choose to be rude, disrespectful and profane.

Navin R Johnson said...

It’s not hate, it’s fact. No one wants to dine around that mess. I could compile a very lengthy list of area restaurants that were ruined by folks that can’t act right in public. People yelling on their cell phones (on speaker so everyone can hear their damn drama), cussing, whooping and hollering, carrying on, complaining and sending food back to try and get a free meal. I worked in a restaurant in college and the kitchen manager was a black fellow. He was a great guy and I thought the world of him. One day a group of his female friends came in and they were being very demanding, and continuously complained about everything. He pulled me aside and said he wouldn’t invite them back, and added that “Nothing will kill a restaurant faster than the clientele becoming black.” His words, not mine.

You will eventually have to join a private club just to eat in peace within the Jackson metro area.

Anonymous said...

I loved Char when it opened. However, I stopped going when I was unable to have a nice, quiet, peaceful dinner. I like to call this phenomenon "culture creep."

Anonymous said...

Yep, how long until the Hinds County crowd trashes out the new Aldi's in Ridgeland.

Anonymous said...

Need a bouncer.

Anonymous said...

Why I stopped going to Saltine.

Anonymous said...

You can’t go anywhere because this “culture” is allowed to get away with it. That’s why they do it. There’s your big ole SIGN. It’s all intentional and it’s allowed. Your politicians know this, your local news propagandist knows this and it is all promoted because they promote it, and y’all eat it up. Do you really think Jackson and all of the other crumbling cities in this country just decided one day they would all get on the highway to hell? It’s INTENTIONAL, otherwise there would be no excuse for this mess, and that problem would have been solved.

Anonymous said...

oh wow you are a genius. care to give us your hot take on crime stats there, mega brain?

Anonymous said...

It’s appears the countdown is on for another restaurant closing post.

Anonymous said...

I still don’t understand why they’re mad? Were they unhappy with the food?

Anonymous said...

Ruth’s Chris at Renaissance comes to mind.

Anonymous said...

11:36 I joined a Country Club for that very reason. I don't even play golf, tennis, use the pool, etc. But I can relax and have lunch or dinner without "Jackson Problems".

Anonymous said...

I ate at Taste the other night at 7:30 and it was absolutely as ghetto as could be. The clothing 3/4 of the females had on was something you would see at an inner city club. The amount of people sending their food back, asking for free food, complaining they didnt have enough alcohol in their drinks, etc. The fatigue is real and I will not be returning. The restaurant will be gone within 6 months - mark my words.

Unacceptable......and Char and the property management group for highland village need to pursue action against those "guests" and that is what they are, they are guests, and if they can
t act right, then they need to be asked to leave and never to return. We are a polite and educated society even if others choose not to be, and if you can not go out in public and be courteous and respectful to the establishment that you are a guest of, do not expect to be allowed to return. This has nothing to do with anything other than people making the choice to act this way

Was meeting someone at Char a couple of years ago in mid-afternoon. Older dude who owns a bunch of properties in Belhaven was there eating alone. Had that phone out and was talking as loud as he could . Complained but staff would do nothing. Said he was a good customer and did it all the time.

Anonymous said...

It’s sad that Highland Village is getting like this. This same stuff happened at the Sushi joint there recently. Ruined everyone’s vibe.

Anonymous said...

Alot if yall bigots needs to take yall ass down to the civil rights museurm cus yall sound like yall still be livin in 1965

Anonymous said...

@3:06
The sushi joint? Tuk tuk boom? I’ve never seen it like this ever! I frequent that spot often. Not sure what you’re seeing?

Anonymous said...

A friend with a serious food allergy related how they went out to Char. She said that they were completely unaccommodating, unsympathetic, and rude. The couple left since they could not eat there. Char missed a big check that night since it was an anniversary date.
They permanently lost my business, too, just from hearing the tale.
Let them keep the lowlife custom and serve it well until it eventually drives them out of business. Not even fleeing Jackson will save Char. It won’t be missed.

Kingfish said...

I ate there Friday night. BS it was ghetto at Taste. Except for Mr. Barefoot, it was a nice crowd, mostly white and by that I mean probably 80% or more. Food was fine. Not the best Italian (like Ginos or Ruffinos) but it was good. Service was very good as well.

Anonymous said...

Folks didn't act like asses in public in 1965.

Anonymous said...

Uncouth, a word you can use in your posts about the culture (not color) that slowly destroys businesses and doesn’t care when the businesses close.

Anonymous said...

I do.

Anonymous said...

Char is a stellar restaurant with some staff members who have been there for 20 plus years. I’ve known management since they all worked for Latham. The best of the best. They will solve any problems….its what they’ve done forever. I’ll be back tonight.

Anonymous said...

Why do you know it alls wish for the decline of a business, with your stupid predictions of Char and Taste closing? Both are in nice centers, both have good ownership and management. You have never run a restaurant, and probably have never run any kind of business. If you work, you were sitting in your office reading this blog while some poor business is paying you. Kingfish, shame on you for starting this kind of sh*t.

Anonymous said...

Went to one of my favorite restaurants at Renaissance. Group of ten was dressed for Mardi Gras and could be heard (and seen) all over the restaurant making asses of themselves. As the waiters cleaned up their mess after they left, I noted that not a single tip was left.

Two weeks later, my wife took her elderly aunt to lunch at the same restaurant and the same thing happened. Such conduct will absolutely kill a restaurant.

Anonymous said...

All of you assholes saying you won’t go back to a restaurant because of a singular event should be ashamed. You’re going to punish the business because of some ghetto trash they couldn’t do much about? Shame. On. You.

Anonymous said...

Just don’t want the culture rot they don’t care about to infect our nice places. Fatigue big time. If you live in JACKSON you get it.

Bourbon on Front, one of the better restaurants in Hattiesburg, is downtown and owned by a retired military recruiter who happens to be a black gentleman. He is known to expect customer courtesy and manners, both toward the staff and other customers. He expects the very diverse staff to be respectful of customers and provide outstanding service. You won’t hear loud cellphone conversations there. It is a civilized dining experience.

My small group meets at C H A R most every Saturday, 11:37 usually; the brunch menu is ALWAYS enjoyable, the servers, the warm bread & butter service also. Our only complaint would be how loud some guests become, especially when the group is 6+, oh, and the parade of
insanely wild 'outfits' on the women...some downright obscene & exposing.

Anonymous said...

And these are, I’m told, the classy folk.

Anonymous said...

@5:55 You wrote that you observed that no one left the tip at a particular table at Char. Sense about 90% of Restaurant customers use credit cards to pay and leave a tip, how could you possibly justify your conclusion?

Anonymous said...

The irony of a CoJ officials paying for a meal at Char with stolen taxpayer money and not leaving a tip.

September 30, 2025 at 5:58 PM; why are you blaming people that don't want to be around that kind behavior for punishing the business. the people acting like asses are punishing the business. shame on them. we just want to eat in peace. and management can kick their sorry asses out, or call the cops. it's their restaurant, they're in charge, not the unruly diners.

it may be a singular event for me, but how many other nights or diners has this happened to? that would mean this is not a singular event. singular events add up and over time, become a common occurrence.

people go out to eat to eat something they may not be able to cook themselves, for special occasions, or just because they don't feel like messing up their own kitchen and having to clean up and do all the dishes. i don't want to have my pleasant dinner ruining by a bunch of assholes that don't know how to behave in public. shame on them.

you blaming diners that want to eat in peace but can't because of the bad behavior of others is just like folks blaming people for moving out of jackson for the same reasons. shame on you. if everybody that was causing all the problems in jackson and the restaurants would act right, there would be no reason for civilized people to go somewhere else to eat or live.

jackson failing and restaurants failing is not the fault of the people that left, it is the fault of those that created the conditions that forced the people to leave. stop taking the effect and making it the cause.

I stopped going to local 463 bc a woman and her friends were insisting on talking through speaker phone to there friend who was unable to attend and the wait staff said they could do nothing about it. It was loud and many people asked but no help to avail. So last month I quit going on Saturdays as I usually would. Why can restaurants in enforce rules they promote. Dress code and no speaker phone at a table just seems common courtesy

My daughter was a waitress during college at Olive Garden after the Soul Bowl game. She had a table of about 20 “patrons” who ran her to death, complained about everything, ate their food and then wanted it for free because they said it was not good.
They stayed about 3 hours and made her constantly bring them something. When they finally left, they wrote on a sugar packet “Here’s your tip — get a real job.”
Sadly, that’s not the exception but the norm in that culture.

Anonymous said...

Which Taste is the subject being discussed here? Aren't there two: Jackson and an outlier? Is there more than one Char?

Anonymous said...

I used to work at a Jackson restaurant/bar that intentionally would NOT stock brandy or cognac. We did keep a few brandies for drink specials but the answer was "Sorry, don't carry it" if someone asked for a Henny and Coke or something similar.

Anonymous said...

I was eating at a Fondren restaurant and watched a well-dressed black couple run their waitress to death. No tip. I gave her $10 (she wasn't my waitress). I've waited tables before. A lot of - not all - black people will run you to death and leave no tip.

Anonymous said...

@5:55. I hope you're not talking about CAET. That's one of my favorite restaurants (although I can only afford to go a few times a year), and I really hope this doesn't start happening there.

Anonymous said...

My only comment is that if I am going to pay $150 to $200 for a nice dinner for two I want it to be quiet, peaceful and relaxing.

Anonymous said...

How is going to a museum going to change anything? We all know about the civil rights movement. In fact, the people that fought so hard for those rights would be horrified about what certain people have done as a result of their sacrifices.

Anonymous said...

Just let "ghetto" be "ghetto". If the facility approves inappropriate behavior, it is on them. If the parishoners want to continue to attend when the "inappropriate cultural behavior is accepted that disrupts other diners", it is on the folks that know that people will be behaving and dressing trashy. If the facility loses business, it's on them. At some point, it is up to the facilities and restaurants to decide on their appropriate behavior of their constituents. If it gets nasty like all of the major places, just don't go there!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
