The Capitol Police issued the following statement.
Capitol Police is currently investigating a homicide of a 17-year-old
male that occurred September 19th around 9:25 pm in the area of
Sunnyvale Drive and Sandalwood Place.
No further information will be provided at this time. We ask that anyone
with information pertaining to this incident contact Capitol Police at

Kingfish note: The victim somehow wound up over by Walgreens on Canton Mart. Hence the heavy police presence some readers may have seen in the area last night.

A little Alfred Hitchcock heavy drama music, please.
"the area of Sunnyvale Drive and Sandalwood Place".
45 years ago, that was one of the most desirable areas in Jackson, Mississippi.
Gawd ... now look at it.
And everyone there has a ring camera. Go ask for the footage. This is not rocket science.
As Colander Greene, ex-JPD spokesperson used say, “…the victim appears deceased at the present time.” 🙄
Is this the senior from Germantown High School? Word is he was robbed and shot while going to play soccer at the Jackson soccer Complex east of McLeod Elementary school.
"Jackson soccer Complex east of McLeod Elementary school."
A few years before that ... there were rumored satanic cult camps along Westbrook at the Pearl River. And also off North State St. at Ceadars of Lebanon .
None of it was true, but it was fun to investigate on a weekend night.
( along with a milk jug of Miller draft from the Beer Barn at Ridgewood and Lakeland Drive).
this was somebody's child. don.t make jokes about it
I'm surprised the Capitol police are that far north and east. 6:23 pm Sept 20th. That neighborhood had young couples starting out. It was and still is a middle class neighborhood. Heatherwood the other side of Old Canton had and has more expensive homes. If you've driven down Old Canton, and Ridgewood Rd. and paid attention, you'll notice a lot of homes have been renovated. Perhaps, you are never a passenger or stop and look around at stop lights. Or, you just aren't that observant.
I'm surprised that the Capitol Police patrol that area. What exactly is their area of responsibility now? And what training is required?
At least it wasn’t a turkey Kirk neck shot
Your rose-colored glasses are blinding you from the blight that has crept into that area. Some homes may be getting renovated but some are now merely eyesores and the latter is becoming more prevalent than the former.
And before you say "you're not looking", I am. I used to live just west of Ridgewood on Pine Lane. Across from Heatherwood. I drive through that area when I happen to be near specifically to look around. What was once a thriving middle-class area is slowly eroding into the swamp that is Jackson.
This is absolutely heartbreaking. That kid came from a great family. My son grew up playing soccer with his older brothers.
As of July 1, jurisdiction of Capitol Police extended to Westbrook Road and south including the McLeod School neighborhood. Where this homicide occurred is within such jurisdiction.
As far as training, each officer must be a full time certified law enforcement officer, usually by graduation from one of several training academies in Mississippi.
So what actually happened? I've looked around a good bit, and I can't seem to find any coverage about this incident. All I'm seeing is speculation.....
Really sad about the murder of the young man in the McLeod neighborhood. The area has been on the decline since the Easter Flood of 79. I grew up in the area back in the 60's and early 70's.
Attended McLeod School. On another note, the area was part of an old airfield used to train pilots. The hangar was located where McLeod is today and later moved into a field south of Riverwood Drive. Are there any photos available to be posted for viewing?
Two juveniles have been arrested for this murder.
