"Is anyone here, would you say life is unfair? Justice seldom prevails. I'm sick and tired of living in a world where the wrong are rewarded for doing wrong and the right are never rewarded it seems for doing right. I'm tired of the criminals walking the street while the lawful people are behind their own bars in the home they bought.... Why isn't God doing something about this mixed-up world?" Tis a dilemma the late Dr. Frank Pollard discussed as he preached from the "troublesome book" of Habbakuk. Watch the 1997 sermon posted below to see how Dr. Pollard resolved this problem.
Scripture: Habbakuk: 1: 2-4,17, 3:18-19
(NIV) How long, Lord, must I call for help,
but you do not listen?
Or cry out to you, “Violence!”
but you do not save?
3 Why do you make me look at injustice?
Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?
Destruction and violence are before me;
there is strife, and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law is paralyzed,
and justice never prevails.
The wicked hem in the righteous,
so that justice is perverted.
17 Is he to keep on emptying his net,
destroying nations without mercy?(Chapter 3) yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.
Hymn: God Moves in Mysterious Ways (Recited by Dr. Pollard)
Refrain: So God we trust in you. O God, we trust in you. When tears are great and comforts few, We hope in mercies ever new, We trust in you.
2. Oh, fearful saints, new courage take: The clouds that you now dread Are big with mercy and will break In blessings on your head. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust him for his grace. Behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face.
3. God's purposes will ripen fast, Unfolding every hour. The bud may have a bitter taste, But sweet will be the flower. Blind unbelief is sure to err And scan his work in vain. God is his own interpreter, And he will make it plain.
