State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
The Office of the State Auditor obviously had the authority to conduct Project Momentum, because the law gives the auditor’s office broad authority to investigate anything involving the “financial affairs” of an agency, to do audits, and to do any kind of pre-audit or post-audit procedures. Delbert Hosemann probably just had one of his state senators request this because he’s angry that Project Momentum uncovered that Lt. Gov. Hosemann and Attorney General Fitch took a taxpayer-funded trip on the state plane to an out-of-state college baseball game. Waste like this is unacceptable, and this is why Auditor White called to eliminate the state plane in Project Momentum. Just like President Trump’s DOGE cost-cutting project will be fought by Washington, DC, politicians, Mississippi’s own long-time politicians dislike Auditor White’s willingness to upset the applecart on behalf of taxpayers.
Leftenent Governor Hilbert Hosemann issued the following statement .
The State Attorney General issued an opinion yesterday which clearly states the State Auditor was unauthorized to spend two million dollars of taxpayer funds. The state laws on expenditures of taxpayer funds apply equally to the State Auditor, and the funds should be returned to the taxpayers
Attorney General Chief of Staff Michelle Williams, yes, the Michelle Williams, issued the following statement.
Supporting Mississippi student-athletes
representing Mississippi in the college World Series is what public
officials representing Mississippians should do. Spending $2 million on a
report without lawful authority
to spend it is not.

OMG that was fast!
Note how he deftly tied into the crusade of Donald Trump. Skillful politics at work! The kid learns fast!
Will you or your campaign pay back the $2M you spent on an authorized audit?
This could be fun!
Will Shad eliminate his state car?
Tickle fight!!!!!!
Lynn also flies first class on Delta. Seen her do it. Of course, a lot of gifted lawyers fly first class. Now if Fitch was gifted . . .
“I can so do whatever I want! I’m telling President Trump on all of you! Just wait until Elon Musk hears about this!”
Shadwick, the cartoon doggy isn’t there to save money, he’s there to privatize government to enrich the billionaire oligarchs and they don’t know who you are.
Talking about flying, how about DPS and the use of that helicopter?
How about the use of the helicopter over at DPS?
Kansas highway patrol had a similar situation and investigation about the misuse of "toys":
"KHP aircraft was created and has served as a valuable asset but the current administrators are abusing state funds for their personal gain and the person gain of their buddies,” the letter said.
Playground fight.
Duh all states have helicopters for Law Enforcement. This helicopter is vital during wreck, tornadoes, hurricanes & to assist all agencies when crimes are committed. I have a son that works on them for LEO’s in another state & met a lady who son sells insurance for firefighters in California fighting fires right now. Merry Christmas!
Lynn also flies first class on Delta.
So does Bennie Thompson and the JMAA provides him with a security detail of two officers, one usually plain clothed, to babysit, er, protect his fat ass at the gate until he gets on the plane.
Aircraft and helicopters are very expensive to operate....only for lifestyle of the rich and entitled.....At the expense of the peasant taxpayers of Mississippi.
1:12....yep you are right. But when you use them for photo opportunities and personal trips that becomes personal use and a waste of taxpayer funds.
Shad has people to do audits. And he has people to do press releases. That leaves him free to browse the web all day looking for opportunities for political gain.

And why would he pay back funds spent on an authorized audit? That is his job for which you pay him.
Typo or autocorrect. It was unauthorize, lacking legal authority, per the AGO's office.
Commenting has changed and I can't see what I type easily on the phone.
Hey Shad! I know you read this blog and the comments, so I am posting it here. Please, oh, please, explain to everyone why you are using your agency's attorneys to defend a lawsuit in which you were personally sued. You did finally hire outside counsel, but your agency's attorneys are still using TAXPAYER money to defend a lawsuit where you are sued personally because of a book you wrote for personal monetary and political gain. We'll wait while you try to explain it.
Shad's office charges State Agencies 2-3 times what reputable, national audit firms charge. But State Audit won't allow their use because little man needs his empire. The hypocrisy!
Project Momentum would not exist if the elected state auditor did not have higher political aspirations. White probably would have had better results and more legitimacy if he had paid for it out of pocket…but for the fact that it was only legally possible to conduct the study using the auspices of the office of state auditor to compel responses from the selected agencies. So, you have an elected official using tax payer money to fund a personal campaign booster while gaining access to the agencies through illegal means. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Get 'em Shad! Keep up the good work -- and ignore all the rift raft trying to doubt you!
Welcome to the Delbert Hosemann Protection Zone.
Audit department is busy today! Stay on topic, people. They're trying to divert us from the real topic, which is that Little Fish authorized 2 million dollars of OUR money for an "expert from afar" to write a report that tells us what we already know. AG's office says this report that WE paid for is outside his purview and not allowed under the statutes that clearly state what audit department is and is not tasked with doing.
We want OUR money back, Little Fish--every dime that we've worked for and you've wasted.
@1:58 great question but good luck. Chad and his team love to fill the comments here with “go shad” crap but that’s it. I don’t think he realizes how petty of a look it is and that it’s turned more ppl off on him than if he just shut up with all the publicity stunts and did his job like most ppl do.
It always amazed me in the years I spent as a state employee, the people who were handpicked for executive leadership positions as well as those who rose to political prominence for no other reason than they fell in with the right crew. This little guy is a Rhodes Scholar, but hes also a ruthless politician. He will be governor at some point which should be a horrifying thought for all of us. He is like Chris Mcdaniel but with sense.
Gosh this is making me wistful for the old days when all the state offices were held by Democrats who would snipe at each other all the time, and now here we are and the Republicans have taken over and now it's them sniping at each other all the time.
MT gone nuts over it. Assigned not one, not two, but three people to write about it. Geoff, Bobby, and Adam.
Shad White is Mississippi's Barney Fife! Never misses an opportunity to draw attention to himself! Just Nip It Shad! I have never seen a politician that has pissed off more Republican donors with his aggressive fund raising. (Just ask any group of donors at a political event) Not unusual for a politician to have sharp elbows but he would be wise to pay attention to who he is elbowing!
The Lynnites spin the room one way, then come the Shadsters to spin it another direction. And then come the Delbertonians to spin it back the other way. I'm positively dizzy with all the spin from these three and their shills with their eyes on a cushy future position of "public service." You three and your hangers-on, your entourage, your crew, you homies playing political games, each of you are disgusting. You have no value to regular folk.
They can call Shad all the names they want but at the end of the day the crooks and wasters of taxpayer dollars can't dispute the numbers. He's taking flak because he is directly over the target.
The vultures are circling. This will be Shad's downfall.
Bureaucratic pissing contest. Everyone wasting government resources over a political spat.
"Last week State Auditor Shad White did not reveal the whistleblower’s name that led authorities to investigate the Mississippi Department of Human Services, saying at the time he had not been given that permission.
White told Paul Gallo on SuperTalk Radio Monday morning that he had now received the approval of the whistleblower.
“We would not have found out about this without somebody coming forward to the Auditor’s office and letting us know, and that person in this case was Governor Phil Bryant,” White revealed. “He said he was comfortable letting that information out now.”
“My understanding is the employees at DHS came to him (Bryant) and showed him something that was very concerning, and he immediately called me,” White added. “That’s what started the investigation.”

3:47 is spot on. That’s the scuttle butt in those circles. Time is not going to treat Shadrick well with his fundraising tactics.
Bottom line- Shad has apparently misused public funds in an effort to further his political career. Can any public authority hold him accountable to repay the 2 million or will we just have to take care of it at the ballot box ? Someone should also ask Shad to define what " administrative costs " are as it relates to school districts. He knows that much of the formula does NOT involve administrative salaries but he does not have enough integrity to define it to the public because that would defeat his narrative. Until he holds Phil accountable for the 100 million dollars he sent to his friends then I can have no respect for him.
Are "school administrative costs" analogous to spending $2 MILLION on a study?
Hopefully this doesn’t mean our next governors race will be a three way between “Empty Pant Suit”, “Barney Fife” and Delbert the RiNo????? Lord help MS if these three are the best we have….
This is no more than self promotion on the state auditors part. Trying to eliminate those in his way.
Ah, yes, the always pious Delbert Hosemann makes an appearance. If you think it is in Mississippi's best interests to usher in the past, then Delbert is your brand of politico.
I voted against Tate in the primary in 2019 and I still disagree with him on a few topics…. but this childish bickering by these three make me appreciate him as the adult in the room.
At least he has been successful bringing billions of investment to our state.
Nice try, but I don't buy the statement from Hosemann about justifying that trip on the taxpayer's back. Whether White gets to do his study or not, all the politicians should stop this stuff.
