State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
State Auditor Shad White announced his legislative priorities for the 2025 session.
“In my time as State Auditor, my team and I have successfully asked lawmakers to pass tougher laws on those who previously stole taxpayer money and to allow our office to audit Medicaid tax returns so we can see how many people lie to get on the program,” said State Auditor Shad White. “This year we’re proposing new reforms that will cut the fat from state government with a chainsaw.”
Auditor White’s legislative agenda for this year includes:
- A proposal to send less money to K-12 administration and more money to teachers and classrooms. There are multiple options for achieving this, like statutory language that requires 50% of all new education funds go towards teacher salaries (similar to a Texas bill from 2023) or a law that caps the amount of money districts can spend on administration. Mississippi spends a higher percentage of its K-12 funds on administration than every other state in the South despite also having some of the lowest paid teachers in the country.
- A ban on spending taxpayer money on DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs. This bill would ban all taxpayer funding for DEI programs that occur in any state-funded institution. A similar bill failed last year in the State Senate. Mississippi spent over $11 million in taxpayer funds on DEI from 2019-2023.
- A bill to cut fat from state agencies. The Office of the State Auditor just finished the largest audit (Project Momentum) of government waste in decades. Project Momentum identified over $335 million in government waste. There will be several bills to implement the recommendations of Project Momentum.
“All of these proposals are common sense reforms the state needs,” said Auditor White. “Cutting government waste, banning wasteful spending on DEI, and ensuring more money goes to teachers are all proposals I believe everyone can get behind.”

Use the money that you are wanting to ban on DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs and do your job. Investigate Phil Bryant and Brett Favre involvements in the welfare dollars allegedly used to build a volleyball arena.
LOL. Thanks, Shadrack, for your unsolicited advice.
Ole Shad needs to fulfill his State Auditor duties & leave non-auditor work to others.
Anytime friend.....it's free
This is just another political ad from a jive-time politician complete with "hot-button" double talk to excite simple minded voters. He should be paying for such ad space.
You know who will see that the DEI bill is killed in committee.
Lack of hurt feelings means more-
Thanks for triggering the “broken record” WHAT ABOUT FEEL AND Brett?!?!? People…. LOL. And tell me Shad is wanting to run for Governor without telling us Shad is wanting to run for Governor…. Lol
Shad should immediately resign and run for legislature. He is wasting resources with this stealth run for higher office.
I hope Kingfish charges for these political ads.

No ! We don’t want him!!
Geez Louise. He was doing so good as auditor for a spell. But the last two months have been non stop panhandling for higher office. Quit taking an auditor salary if all you are going to do is act like a wanna be Governor. You don’t need a “legislative agenda.” You need to audit.
As Shadrack said in a semi-private conversation a couple of weeks ago, his whole goal and agenda is to beat Delbert for Governor in 2027. What he doesn't realize is, among other things, Delbert ain't gonna be his competition in 2027 - and his focus on him does nothing but show his lack of political understanding; just as his continued campaigning from the Auditor's office with statements such as this paper-thin political attempt.
Shad White quickly went (in Mississippi years) from Contender to Pretender. What a waste.
I'm going out on a limb and suggesting all but 3 of the above posts were typed on the same keyboard.
Since The legislature uses the governor’s requests as door stops, I wonder what they’ll do with the auditor’s?
What about Brett Farve?
Shad is doing a great job. His aims are where the country is going, Thank God.
"In my time as State Auditor, my team and I have successfully asked lawmakers to pass tougher laws on those who previously stole taxpayer money and to allow our office to audit Medicaid tax returns so we can see how many people lie to get on the program"
I wonder who passed that bill for you Shad.... Oh, that's right, the SENATE! Shut your pie hole and audit. If you have a legislative agenda, then you should have run your little scrony ass for the Legislature.
Do you really expect your constant harping to be taken when you can't even spell the man's name correctly? I mean, REALLY?
The Fitch-Harpies are on their keyboards, tapping merrily away.
How many times do you have to be reminded, that's federal jurisdiction now? But you'll post your nonsense at least a half-dozen more times.
"In my time as State Auditor, my team and I have successfully asked lawmakers to pass tougher laws on those who previously stole taxpayer money and to allow our office to audit Medicaid tax returns so we can see how many people lie to get on the program"
He'd have you think that this the latest and great thing to come out of Mississippi, via the intrepid State Auditor.
He'd be wrong.
This is a nationwide campaign.
The auditor is a tool. As usual. (See also: Stacey "Veteran's Affair' Pickering and Phil 'USM Volleyball Arena just fell out of the sky' Bryant)
Shouldn't one of the questions be why this wasn't
federal jurisdiction to start with?
I suppose Jody Owens is too busy at present to be interested in discussing that.
Thanks Shad for watching my tax dollar. I did not elect to fund DEI and am sick and tired of funding such BS. You have my vote for whatever you run for. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a politician with a backbone.
Giving the TANF referral to Jody Owens was an all time mistake. Holy moly.
