If they can keep prices low enough it could work. The numbers that ive seen charged will doom this concept here. Hope not. I’ll definitely check it out.

Can't expand the article. Hope they do ok.

I believe JJ initially reported that Lumumb desperately wanted a Top Golf for Jackson - supposedly at the Smith-Wills stadium site. Developers told him nothing was possible until he solved the city's water problems that he caused. The mayor didn't listen, of course, & now Madison County will win big time - again.

If they serve alcohol, it might work. Of course, you do know that if they do serve alcohol, the Ridgeland/Madison police dept. will go out of their way to arrest those drinking alcohol.

As they should.

Gonna be chilly for the next few months trying to chip those balls off that balcony.

Higher prices keep the riff raff out!

I have been to one in Nashville years ago. It is fun to do on occasions, not something I would do more than once or twice a year. I equate it to bowling but with a golf club and ball. When it’s your turn you hit the ball at targets and score points. The score is posted on a monitor at your station. Then the next player in your group has a turn and so on. Again, it’s something different to do with friends but not something I would care to do on a regular basis.

Believing anything Lumumba says is the first mistake.

We've done it in different cities for a night out during business conferences. It's fun but not cheap. I hope it's successful, and that they are able to keep the thuggery away.

Is it like put put golf?

4:44 Lumamba is quoted in the C-L that state officials would not allow TopGolf in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

This entertainment venue will be dismantled in less that 15 years.

I love it that Mississippi always gets restaurants and attractions AFTER they peak in popularity and have jumped the shark.

Anonymous said...

Will Lumumba’s federal pen have a golf course?

Sadly 8:15 is correct. This was a fairly lame idea when it first came out. It is now stale and unsustainable. I live in Madison and hope I’m wrong but it doesn’t feel like a good concept to me.

The value to ambulance chasers is high. Drunks, balconies, golf clubs, and the occasional shootouts all make for a good profit.

And, yeah, outdoor dining on a balcony with booze in December? Not a great tee time, but the crews will have a soft launch for sure. And, in Mississippi, anything new, just ANYTHING NEW, will have the white trash driving 150 miles to wait in line for it. The Vicksburg area had a Zaxby's open up and the line for drive thru is still out in the road. I've stomached Zaxby's once. Ewww.

This will have the usual rednecks boasting to the bros in both the trailer parks and the gated hick communities about that "fancy new place TopDogGolf." Totally new and no other like it anywhere they will swear (works everytime in Mississippi) And the denizens of Jackson cannot wait to put their imprimatur on it either. All those little Tigers out there with Dad seeing glory (and stars). Gonna be rich, culturally speaking. Bubba's Used Tires and Snowcones CEO plans a big company outing already I am certain.

Topgolf is a lot of fun. I really can’t imagine that the Jackson market is full of people who who have had their fill of it. In fact, I suspect most people who are crapping on it have t played more than once, if that. Now, Jackson’s problem will be whether there are enough people in the area who are willing to pay for something reasonably nice.

If the “I can get a bucket of balls at the driving range for $3” crowd is too large, it’ll fail. If they have to drop prices and go downmarket, it’ll fail. And if either of those happen, you’ll have no one but yourselves to blame.

It is pretty stale. As always, Mississippi gets franchises after the quants have milked out almost any possibility of real profits and 15 years after it was new elsewhere.

It just seems sort of like trophy wives opening a small shop for 3 hours a day so they can call themselves entrepreneurs instead of bimbos. Gen III or IV types love this so they can say they are bidnessmen. Then, they move on with Daddy's money to another pointless venture. This seems almost to be a social license if they are already at that stage in desperation for 'growth.'

But, there is a baseline of Bubba drunks who find this schlock wildly entertaining. It will do fine for 5 years.

Offering skeet would increase the cash flow.

Top Golf is doing well all across the country. You don’t need to be a golfer. A fun event for friends, families, gift card etc. It will do well.

And you believe him or the Clarion-Liar?

A lot of negative comments on here for something people have been waiting on. All you negative comments stay home. You probably can't afford it anyway.

Of course JJ is packed full of experts on quasi golf. Of course.

Damn 12:30, not dramatic are you?

While I've done it elsewhere and was sorta fun, I won't be rushing to or frequenting it much at all now in Ridgeland... and sounds like you may not either. But to drone on and on with your Bubba crap talk of everyone else around you is a little much - NO, it's overly much... and screams of your pre-judgement of all others not in your inflated orbit.

I'll bet even your mother knows you've turned out to be a personality prick.

Ok, that’s it…I’m going to the eye doctor tomorrow. All this time I was waiting I honestly thought it was Topless Golf. I was hoping Paige Shearinack was going to make a few appearances there. Now I won’t have to use my secret credit card I hide from my wife for things like this.

So did Blockbuster Videos for about a decade.

I wish them the best, but the Jackson version is not even top golf. It is only two stories.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
