What exactly is a point of order? I've been following this bill closely and watching some of the proceedings online, but I'm no expert when it comes to legislative terminology. I wonder if there is time to get this bill across the finish line?

Looks to me like the taxpayers of Mississippi are going to be out several million dollars initially which will eventually grow into an extreme tax burden on the people of the state. When its all said and done five years down the road the city of Jackson will not be one bit safer. The problem is the people already hired/elected or whatever not establishing law an order. You could turn the law enforcement over to the 101st Airborne but if you don't have judges and prosecutors willing to do what's right nothing is going to change.

So now everyone else in the state is paying for Jackson’s water, law enforcement and judicial proceedings? What a bunch of welfare recipients they are.

If the HB# 1020 bill passes, you'll see the liberals in Jackson erupting like a Fire Ant bed being stepped on!

I have friends that work at the Capitol PD. They tell me that a lot of the criminal element does not like to deal with them, and has therefore left the CCID. They have also told me that LOTS of residents and business owners are very thankful that they are there. My only hope is that if this bill passes, the state will eventually grow CPD large enough to take over the entire city. If a decent mayor is not elected in 2025, it might be the only hope to get businesses and people to return to Jackson.

Nothing but a jobs program and new income stream for lawyers, judges, etc. etc. It will not improve Jackson one iota. But the money will flow into full pockets that churn full dockets. The way they see it (lawyers) those delayed or backed up cases are money left on the table.

I watched an hour and a half of black legislators get up and talk about how racist HB 1020 was. When Rep. Trey Lamar (the author of the bill) got up in closing, he was booed and heckled by those same black legislators. Imagine if he had done the same to them when they were arguing the bill? What a biased world we live in.

Hogwash. Jackson can't even provide a functioning 911 call center. Captiol PD will actually answer and respond to calls. That in itself will help to control crime. I have had great, responsive experiences with them twice over the last year.

Everything that made the bill worthwhile was stripped out of it.

Republicans - we are against big government, over reach, special interests and infringing on local municipalities. Also republicans - lets pass big government program, take power from the voters and use tax dollars to provide private security for the chosen.

As a resident of Jackson, thank you Senator Brice Wiggins, thank you Representative Trey Lamar, thank you Delbert Hoseman, and thank you Speaker Gunn.

5:14. some members of the Legislature do not care about Jackson other than it is the Capitol, where the Legislature meets and where some live during the session. If not, many would not care if Jackson fell into the Pearl. It is costing their constituents tax dollars to bail these fools out and Dems from Jackson vote against 1020. Jackson is out of control with no leadership.

For those of you who don’t know what a “point of order” is, let me explain it to you. A “point of order” is a scheme used by broke assed senators/legislators to postpone the ending of the session. The reason for the delay of the closure of the session is because this is their only real source of income, and after the session has ended, they no longer get per diem while sleeping in their trucks at the fairgrounds where they use the state owned rest rooms and showers. Maybe this can further educate you on why we rank 50th in the USA.

Kinda like a snowcone, makes you feel good. Then you piss it away. Better start figuring out how you going to pay the welfare money back. The Feds will be looking for the check soon.

@5:14. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I can’t think of a capital city that’s doing worse than Jackson. Something had to be done to stop the bleeding. I’m usually not for government overreach, but in this instance, I’m all for it. The current administration has proven that they can’t run a city. I hope the CCID eventually takes over the whole city. I’m already starting to feel a little safer knowing that Capitol PD has expanded power.

So the City of Jackson demanded help from the state and called the government "racist" because they could not figure out how to get help. "Help us, state of Mississippi."
Now the state wants to help the people of Jackson, the voices now claim that state help is not needed.
What does this mean? It's simple -- "give us money to solve our problems but don't make us responsible for how we use it."
No doubt that solutions are not desired for the COJ problems, just give us money or be called "racist."

1020 will put more law enforcement on patrol and they don't answer to the incompetent Mayor. Lumumba has destroyed the Jackson PD.

This bill was like good bourbon when it started but they mixed way too much water with. Now, not so much.

I thought the court backlogs were criminal cases being delayed.I'm not sure why more misdemeanor courts are needed unless they are to address vagrancy,loitering and homelessness.
Thought also we need more police on the street, not more judges.
I'm not opposed to this. I just don't see how this helps improve the ankle monitoring or speeds up trials or keeps those who already committed a felony off the streets. And, it sure doesn't get guns away from felons. It will give some attorneys who can't get a law firm to hire them or clients on their own a job.

It is a waste of time and money. All the CCID can handle is misdemeanors. I don't think murder is a misdemeanor. Maybe they can give out parking tickets.

Jackson city officials also did not like the Feds fighting Jackson crime by the prior federal attorney in the Southern District

The law-abiding people who are left in Jackson, both black and white, welcome any help they can get. The "leadership" and the hustlers don't want anything that does not put their hands on the money. They couldn't care less about the conditions the voters have to endure because they don't even have to live in Jackson if they don't want to.

As a resident of Jackson - thank you Trey Lamar (and Speaker Gunn) for bringing forth a good bill that could actually do something to deal with the failed court system in Hinds County.

But as to Senator Wiggins and LG Hosemann - y'all f***ked it up. You stripped the ability to actually do something positive to address the problem because of your fear of the 'riots in the streets'.

We have had appointed Judges in Hinds County for over a decade. Now, we will continue to have appointed Judges. So what? Solve anything?

We don't have a docket that requires a new judicial district - four judges is plenty enough ------- if they would just damn do their job. But right now they will let criminal defense attorneys ask for another continuance, and another continuance, etc ad nauseum, until their case gets dismissed by another Jess Dickinson soft-of-crime appointed judge for being 'old'.

Go through the Hinds County Courthouse on any given day and look for a trial going on. Ain't happening. Get called for jury duty and spend a Monday morning hanging around; told to go home and call in every night. But Wendesday they tell you don't call back.

Easy life for a criminal defense attorney - ask any of them and they will confirm this.

What we needed was an appointed judge that didn't work under the elected judges of the county. Prosecutors that aren't told by the elected DA who to prosecute and who to ignore (kinda like the JPD officers, but I digress.)

The original idea was a great one. But what passed was nothing but nice ribbons tied around a greatly wrapped box that contains nothing.

@12:19. Bingo. There are no trials ever going on down there. Considering the amount of felonies committed in Jackson alone, they should be holding court 5 days a week. When the whole judiciary has time to go and protest at the Capitol, and a certain female circuit court judge (the most racist one of the bunch) argues with a legislator at the Capitol, I’d say their priorities are a little off. Unfortunately, the black citizens of Hinds Co will keep voting for these judges because of race and political affiliation. Ben Allen’s son beating Wooten several years back would’ve helped tremendously, but unfortunately he couldn’t pull it off.

Let's take a look at the above comment. The poster was opposed to a broader scope of authority for the Cap-PoPo, so he/she bitched until it was shrunk down. And now he/she complains about what is called 'upperclass white' area.
